Process for the production of artificial structures. When continuing the investigations on which the process of the main patent is based, it was found that artificial structures with properties similar to those of the products of the examples of the main patent are obtained if, according to the present invention, the xanthtates of such oxy-alkyl are used to carry out the process of the main patent - cellulose derivatives obtained by the action of cyclic ethers of at least dihydric alcohols on cellulose.
These oxyalkyl derivatives of cellulose can be prepared by any suitable process in which, in the presence or absence of alkali or another basic substance or a catalyst, one or more cyclic ethers (for example, alkylene oxides or suitable cyclic ethers, three - Or tetravalent alcohols, for example glycid (epihydrin alcohol) or butadiene dioxide, is brought into effect on cellulose.
The xanthates of the oxy-alkyl derivatives of cellulose of the type mentioned above can be prepared analogously to any known process, for example in one of the ways described in patent specification No. 1.54165.
The xanthates of the oxy-alkyl derivatives of cellulose of the type mentioned above can be processed, alone or combined with other colloids, for example cellulose xanthate, into artificial structures, for example threads, according to the method of the invention.
Such a full use of cellulose xanthate is possible if a solution of a xanthate of an oxy-alkyl derivative of cellulose of the type mentioned above is mixed with viscose, or by mixing cellulose xanthate (sulfided alkali cellulose) in a solution of a xanthate of an oxy- dissolves alkyl derivatives of cellulose, or,
by dissolving a xanthate of an oxy-alky 1- derivative of cellulose of the type mentioned above in viscose, or by carrying out the process in such a way that the carbon sulfur in the presence of caustic alkali on a mixture of an oxy-alkyl derivative of the cellulose mentioned above Type and cellulose itself is allowed to act, for example,
by treating cellulose in the presence or absence of alkali with one or more cyclic ethers of di- or polyhydric alcohols under such conditions that only part of the cellulose is converted into the corresponding cellulose ether, whereupon carbon disulfide in the presence of alkali , (.if alkali cellulose is assumed, the alkali contained in it can be used here for),
can act and in this way a mixture of a xanthate of the corresponding oxy-alkyl ether of cellulose with cellulose xanthate is obtained. Instead of cellulose xanthate, other alkali-soluble cellulose derivatives or alkali-soluble cellulose hydrate or proteins or gelatine can also be used as additives to the xanthates of the cellulose ethers.
If desired, suitable emollients, for example glycerin, or a glycol, or a sugar, for example glucose, or a soap, or Turkish red oil, or a drying or non-drying oil, or an elasticizing agent. for example a halogen derivative of a di- or polyhydric alcohol, especially a halohydrin,
For example, a dichlorohydrin or a monochlorohydrin or ethylene chlorohydrin can be added to the xanthate solutions.
Since the practical implementation of the process can be handled in a manner analogous to that described in patent specification No. 166170 and explained there with numerous examples, it appears superfluous. here many details relating to the implementation of the present process under various Arbeitsbedin conditions and all possible embodiments of the present invention to be cited.
<I> Example I: </I> 1000 parts of wood pulp (water content 9 to 10%) or 1000 parts of cotton lint (water content 7 to <B> 8%) </B> are mixed with 20,000 parts of 18% sodium hydroxide solution at 15 ° C soaked, whereupon the mass thus obtained is left to stand for 3 hours at room temperature. After this time, the alkali cellulose is pressed to 3400 parts and shredded in a shredder for 3 hours at 12 to 13 ° C.
The crushed and cooled to 0 C alkali cellulose 200 to 300 parts of pre-cooled ethylene oxide are added, the resulting reaction mass is kneaded at 1: 5 C in a hermetically sealed shredder and then left for 20 hours at room temperature.
The reaction mass is then placed in a filter press or on an insulating cloth and washed alkali-free with water, after which it is pressed to three to four times the weight of the starting cellulose. The water content of the pressed product is determined by drying a sample at 105 ° C.
The mass is now (at 15 C) mixed with such an amount of water and caustic soda that, adding the water present in it, it contains 2000.0 parts of 1. 8% sodium hydroxide solution.
The reaction mixture is now left to stand for 3 hours at room temperature, whereupon it is pressed to 3400 to 4500 parts and comminuted in a shredder for 3 hours at 12 to 13 ° C. Immediately after the defibration, 600 parts of carbon disulfide are added, the reaction mass is transferred to a closable vessel and left to stand at 1.9 C for 10 hours.
The excess carbon disulfide is blown off for 15 minutes and the xanthated mass is dissolved in water and caustic soda in such a way that, for example, a solution is obtained which contains 5 to '(% of the dry residue of the mass pressed after the alkylation and washing and 8% Contains NaOH.
The solution obtained in this way is allowed to age for 96 hours at 15 C, during which time it is filtered two to three times through cotton wool. The spinning of the aged solution takes place in the same way as described in the examples of patent specification no. 16,6170. <I> Example </I> II: 100 () parts of wood pulp (water content 9 to 10%) or 1000 parts of cotton lint (water content 7 to 8%) are impregnated with 20,000 parts of 18% sodium hydroxide solution at 15 ° C. and the resulting The mass is left to stand for 3 hours at room temperature.
After this time, the alkali cellulose is pressed to 3400 parts, shredded in a shredder for 3 hours at 12 to 13 C and then cooled to 0 C. 1000 parts of pre-cooled ethylene oxide are added to the: Ekiihltexi alkali cellulose and the resulting reaction mass is kneaded at 15 C in a hermetically sealed shredder and then left over for 20 hours at room temperature.
The product, which is soluble in dilute sodium hydroxide solution, is placed in a filter press or on a Kolier cloth, washed alkali-free with water, pressed and, after its water content has been determined, dissolved in such an amount of caustic soda and Wagser that a solution , which contains 7 precipitable cellulosic substances and 8% NaOH, is formed.
After 1000 parts of carbon disulfide (calculated on the weight of the dry residue of the washed and pressed mass) have been incorporated, this solution is left to stand for 10 to 20 hours at room temperature with shaking or loading. The clear solution that is finally obtained is allowed to age for 24 to 48 or 9 hours, during which time it is filtered two to three times through cotton. The aged solution is finally spun in the same way as described in the examples of patent specification No. 166170.
<I> Example </I> III: 1000 parts of wood pulp (water content 9 to 10%) or 1000 parts of cotton lint (water content "(up to 8%)" are impregnated with 20000 parts of 5 @ 0% sodium hydroxide solution at 15 C and the like The mass obtained is left to stand for hours at room temperature.
After this time, the alkali cellulose is pressed to 4000 parts and shredded in a fiberizer for 3 hours at 11 ° C., after which the alkali cellulose is cooled to 0 ° C.
A quantity of pre-cooled, therefore liquid, ethylene oxide, sufficient to cover the alkali cellulose, is added to the ice-cooled alkali cellulose and the reaction mixture is kept at about 1 C for 4 hours with continued cooling.
It is then placed in a filter press or on a colander cloth, washed alkali-free with water, then squeezed out and, after the water content has been determined, dissolved in such an amount of caustic soda and water that a 7% precipitable cellulose substance and 8% Solution containing NaOH is formed.
1000 parts of carbon sulphide (calculated on the weight of the dry residue of the washed and pressed mass) are added to this solution and the reaction mixture is kept under stirring for 10 to 20 hours at room temperature. The clear solution that is finally obtained is 24 to 48 or Let it age for 96 hours, during which time it is filtered through cotton two or three times. The aged solution is spun in the same manner as described in Patent No. 166170.
<I> Example IV: </I> 1000 parts of finely divided wood pulp or cotton lint are placed in a rotating car claw, whereupon 19200 parts of ethylene oxide that has been cooled to 0 C are added, the mixture to 95 to <B> 100 '</ B> C heated and held at this temperature for 8 to 10 hours. After this time, the autoclave is cooled and the reaction mixture is placed in a filter press or on a kolier cloth and mixed with water. washed.
The washed product is then freed from excess water by pressing, whereupon the water content of the pressed pale product is determined and the mass is xanthogenized and dissolved in the manner described in Example I. The xanthate solution thus obtained is filtered in the same manner as described in patent specification No. 166170, if desired, aged and spun.
Example <I> V: </I> Operation as in example IV with the difference that before the. Heat 1200 to 3000 parts of dimethylaniline in the cooled mixture of cellulose and ethylene oxide are kneaded, the mixture is left in a well-closed container for 24 to 48 hours at room temperature and then heated in a rotating autoclave, as described in Example IV.
<I> Example </I> V1: Procedure as in Example IV, with the difference that instead of 1200 parts, 10000 parts of ethylene oxide are used.
Example V11: 60,000 to 10,000 parts of dimethylaniline are kneaded into 1,000 parts of finely divided wood pulp or cotton lint until the mixture is homogeneous, then 6,000 to 10,000 parts of ethylene oxide are added and the mass is kept in a well-sealed container 24 to 48 Hours at room temperature. After this time, the reaction mixture is weakly acidified with dilute sulfuric acid while stirring and then washed free of sulfuric acid.
The washed product is then pressed out and the water content is determined. The washed and pressed product is then, as described in Example <B> 1 </B>, xanthated, dissolved and the solution is spun in a manner similar to the working methods of Patent No. 16 (6170).
<I> Example </I> VIII: 1000 to 5000 parts of dimethylaniline are kneaded into 1000 parts of finely divided wood pulp or cotton lint until the mixture is homogeneous. Then 5000 parts of ethylene oxide are added and the mass is kept in a well-closed container for 24 to 48 hours at room temperature.
After this time, the reaction mixture is heated in a rotating autoclave to <B> 100 '</B> C for 8 hours and then converted into its xanthate, the latter, dissolved as in Example I and then spun in the same way as in the examples of Patent No. 166170.
Example <I> IX: </I> 1000 parts of wood pulp or cotton intersperse are introduced into a rotating autoclave, whereupon 600 parts of pre-cooled ethylene oxide are added and the reaction mixture is kept at <B> 50 'for 3 to 4 hours C is heated. After this time, the mass is removed from the autoclave, carefully washed with water or alcohol and then with water and pressed, xanthated and dissolved in the manner described in Example I.
The solution thus obtained is spun in the same way as described in Patent No. 166170. Example <I> X: </I> Procedure as in Example IX, but with the difference that the treatment of the cellulose with the ethylene oxide takes place at room temperature. <I> Example XI: </I> Procedure as in example IX or X, but with the difference that instead of 600 parts <B> 300 </B> to 400 parts of ethylene oxide are used.
<I> Example </I> XII: Procedure as in Example IX, but with the difference that, in addition to ethylene oxide, 50 to 80 parts of diethylaniline are added to the cellulose before heating.
<I> Example </I> XIIl: Procedure as in any of the previous examples, but with the difference that instead of ethylene oxide, a molecular equivalent amount of propylene oxide or glycide is used.
<I> Example XIV: </I> Procedure as in Example I, with the difference that the reaction mass after the oxyalkylation process, without being washed, with 600 parts of carbon disulfide for 10 hours at <B> <I> 20 ' </I> </B> C is handled. The mass obtained is dissolved in such an amount of water and caustic soda that a solution is obtained which approximately 6; Contains up to 7% precipitable cellulose substance and 8% NaOH.
The filtered solution, after being aged for 48 hours at 15 ° C., is spun in the same manner as described in the examples of patent specification No. 166170. Example XV: Procedure as in any of the preceding examples, but with the difference that the cellulose ether is dissolved in such an amount of water and caustic soda that a solution is obtained that contains about 3% precipitable cellulose substance and 5% NaOH contains.
To carry out this example, it is recommended to start from a cellulose of high viscosity (determined by the usual methods).
<I> Example </I> XVI: Procedure as in Example I or 1I, but with the difference that the alkali cellulose is left to mature for 48 to 60 hours at 15 or 20 C. In all the preceding examples, the action of the spinning acid can also be interrupted in such a way that the threads are cooled to low temperatures, for example -5 or -15 C, when they exit the bath, before they are washed, which is for example can be done wisely by winding it on a hollow spool containing a coolant,
for example contains solid carbon dioxide or a cold mixture or ice.
Examples of the production of staple fibers emerge readily from the preceding examples.
After the threads have been washed, they can be heated or steamed (for example at 100 to 110 C) before or after drying.
Desulfurization or bleaching of the threads can be carried out in a known manner.
The threads can be desulphurised, for example, by treating them with a 10% solution of Na25. 9 H20 for 5 minutes to an hour or with a 30% solution of Na2S. 9 H20 treated warm or hot for 5 minutes to 10 minutes.
It can also be spun in all examples without any stretching, for example in a spinning bath of short, moderate or greater length and without any device that could give the threads any special stretch between the spinneret and the winder, for example without any change in the direction of the thread without the use of fixed or movable rods or rollers, hooks or differential rollers or the like.
Contrary to what one would expect from the experience with spinning viscose strongly acidic baths, one also obtains threads of almost the same or not significantly lower strength and with a mostly greater at least the same elongation as with particular elongation spun threads, etc. regardless of whether the spinning speed used is large (for example more than 60 m per minute), normal (30 to 6.0 m per minute) or even below normal (for example 10 to 30 m per minute ). The method, in which spinning takes place without any particular stretching, is also very successful when the air gap is significantly shortened (for example 40 to 70 cm).
Example XVII: Procedure as in one of the preceding examples, but with the difference that the spinning solution after the dissolution process contains 1.0 to 30 parts of a-dichlorohydrin or a-monochlorohydrin or ethylene chlorohydrin 100 parts of the cellulose substance contained therein are added.
<I> Example </I> XV III: A spinning solution, prepared according to one of the preceding examples, is fed in a known manner through a suitable funnel or slot into one of the in the examples of patent no. <B> 166170 </B> Allowed precipitation baths to enter and the coagulated film washed in a known manner after leaving this bath. and dried.
In the preceding examples, a small amount of an inorganic catalyst, for example a copper salt, or a nickel salt, or a silver salt, or an iron salt or the like can be added to the reaction mixture in the preparation of the cellulose ethers.
The answer to the question; Whether or not the alkali cellulose should mature before it is combined with the oxyalkylating agent depends advantageously on the desired viscosity of the solution which is to be processed on artificial structures, for example artificial threads, and in connection with it on the type of cellulose type envisaged . If you want to give the solution a certain viscosity, the alkali cellulose produced from the prospective cellulose is subjected to a maturation process,
if the cellulose in question would give a higher viscosity without ripening. If, however, the desired degree of viscosity is present from the beginning, that is to say without ripening, it is superfluous.
Since the viscosity of the different types of cellulose in the trade (linters and wood pulp) is quite different, the question of the tire depends on the one hand on the desired viscosity of the starting solution, which is intended for the production of the plastics, and on the other hand the viscosity of the type of cellulose used for processing.
The cellulose can also contain close conversion products such as cellulose hydrate, hydrocellulose and oxycellulose in small amounts.
All other details which relate to the execution of the process, as well as to the main modifications of the same, for example the different types of cellulose which can be used instead of wood pulp or cotton liner, the various plasticizers which instead of the strong sulfuric acid can be used, etc. are analogous to that mentioned in Patent No. 166170.
The terms "viscose", "artificial structures" and "synthetic threads" have the same meaning as in patent no. <B> 166170. </B>
