Description
Process for the preparation of a dye. The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a dye which is characterized in that one is obtained from the compound of the following formula
EMI0001.0003
treated with a sulfonating agent by heating in a high-boiling solvent.
Example: parts by weight of the dye of the following probable constitution
EMI0001.0006
which is available as stated above, are stirred in 70 parts by weight of oleum of 200/0 SO3 at 20-30 C for a few hours. Sulphation has occurred. The reaction mixture is poured onto ice and the sulfonic acid separates out as a blue precipitate. It is filtered off with suction and washed neutral with saline.
The sulfonic acid is soluble in water with a blue color and stains animal, vegetable, artificial fibers and mixed fabrics in greenish blue tones. The dyeings are distinguished by their excellent fastness properties. If these sulfonic acids are converted into the corresponding barium or calcium salt, valuable blue pigments are obtained, which are of interest to the paper, wallpaper and paint industries.
The pigment can also be sulfonated under other conditions. For example, instead of oleum of 20% SOa, other sulphonating agents with a weaker or stronger effect at never their or higher temperatures can be used.
