Description
Process for the lead-coating of metallic objects. In the case of leaded metallic, in particular iron objects (which are exposed to chemical or even just atmospheric) influences, it has been shown that corrosion frequently occurs on the base metal under the lead layer. Even if the lead layer is made several millimeters thick, this disadvantage cannot be completely avoided. Likewise, the connection between the lead coatings and the metallic object was not evenly good, but rather loosened under mechanical loads such as bending, twisting, hammering, etc.
These disadvantages can be eliminated by the method according to the invention. According to the method, an intermediate layer of a metal other than lead is first applied electrolytically to the object to be lead, preferably after it has been cleaned by dry means using a sandblower, and the lead layer is then applied electrolytically to this becomes. The intermediate layer may consist of nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium, cobalt, chromium or the like, depending on the particular circumstances and the intended use of the articles.
In order to give the dull lead tone a nicer appearance, the objects leaded according to this process can be painted or sprayed with a color afterwards:
