Description

Process for the production of a rust protection coating on iron and Steel It is known that iron and steel are coated with both zinc and cadmium can be effectively protected from rust. Alloys have also been proposed which can be produced electrolytically.

Compared to the electrolytic methods, those on thermal By way of applied coatings, in particular by dipping or spraying, the advantage that the coatings are more homogeneous, that also the known disadvantages of electrolytic Procedures such as poor spreading, the need for the cleanest surfaces, etc., come in failure. In the case of galvanizing, it is still common today the technique of producing the coatings by thermal processes. The zinc has but the disadvantage that in use, especially by atmospheric influences, Crusts from basic zinc salts arise, which further dissolve the coating prevent as the attack progresses. But it is precisely on this solution that his is based rust-protecting effect against iron, which then fails in the case of crust formation. Coatings of cadmium do not show this disadvantage. On the other hand, it has cadmium the unpleasant property at higher temperatures, especially in melted Condition, easy to oxidize, which makes it impossible to apply thermal coatings Process, in particular by means of immersion or spraying, in an impeccable manner to produce operationally. According to the invention, instead of pure cadmium, its Alloys with zinc in medium concentrations of 2o to 6o% and cadmium correspondingly 8o to 40% zinc used. These alloys have before the pure- Zinc has the advantage that it does not show any crust formation when exposed to atmospheric agents, as a result, form an undeatened rust protection, on the other hand they intend to the cadmium and its high-percentage alloys have the advantage that they can be applied allow the object to be protected from rust by means of thermal processes, since this does not show the appearance of strong oxidation in the molten state is available. Moreover, the alloys have the economic advantage of the lower Price due to the lower Ca-dmium content compared to pure cadmium. That Dipping or spraying cadmium-zinc alloys is also more beneficial than that so-called sheradize; as is the case for cadmium-zinc alloys in the UK Patent specification 26z 5o2 is described, as initially several in this process Operations are required - namely, firstly, the coating to be coated Objects with .the metal powder and, secondly, the heating of the same - and there also In this process it is necessary to heat in protective gases if one is too strong (over 2o ° 1o) wants to pass cadmium alloys, otherwise by Oxidation no uniformly adhering coatings can be obtained.
