Description

Process for the preparation of a water-soluble antimony salt. The present method relates to the preparation of quinine antimonyl gluconate and is characterized in that quinine, g-luconic acid and antimony trihydroxide are allowed to act on one another.

The hitherto unknown quinine antimonyl gluconate is a colorless, brittle powder which is easily soluble in water with a bluish fluorescence. It should be used in therapy. Example: 14.3 g of quinine gluconate, prepared by neutralizing gluconic acid with quinine, are dissolved in 25 cms of water and shaken with 8.3 g of antimony trihydroxide. Undissolved material is separated off by centrifugation and the clear solution is brought to dryness in vacuo.

This gives 20.5 g of an almost colorless, brittle powder which is easily soluble in water with a bluish fluorescence and which gives stable solutions. By treating them with hydrogen sulfide, a precipitate of antimony trisulfide is obtained. The quinine antimonyl gluconate has the formula C32Hbo020N2Sb2.
