Precautionary fillets to increase the intensity of the ignition sparks of internal combustion engines. It has been found in internal combustion engines that the current that generates the spark in the plug does not just pass once between the electrodes, i.e. it is not suddenly interrupted, as would be desirable in order to reduce the magnetization of the armature of a magneto ignition device, for example to be carried out in a short time. It occurs here, as with everyone.
Spark gap, damped oscillations, i.e. the spark on the electrodes jumps back and forth as long as the amplitude of the damped voltage wave remains high enough to overcome the resistance of the spark gap.
Since the time used to demagnetize the armature causes a reduction in the time available for magnetization, and the strength of the final magnetization as a result of the remanence and the shape of the magnetization curve also depends on the current strength supplied than on the The time during which the magnetizing current acts on the armature depends on
so it is clear that a sudden interruption of the current is important, which is avoided by magnetizing the armature for too long, which counteracts the good effect of the magnetic apparatus.
When using conventional spark plugs, the low ignition voltage means that the spark will pass several times, so that electrical energy is lost. The upstream spark gap according to the invention has an auxiliary spark gap to be connected in series with the spark plug with a capacitor connected in parallel; it can be used to increase the intensity of the ignition sparks. The spark gap is expediently laid in the capacitor.
With reference to the accompanying drawing, wel che represents an example embodiment of the invention, the invention will be described after standing. 1 shows the diagram of an ignition device with a magnet apparatus; 2 shows the diagram of an ignition device with an induction coil; FIG. 3 shows a cross section through a preliminary spark gap and FIG. 4 shows the exterior view.
In the drawing, 1 is a porcelain body consisting of two pot-like parts, which parts are connected to one another by a metal band 2 with edges 3 beaded on both sides. In the bottom of the parts is a metal disk 4 BEZW. 5 arranged, of which the disk 4 is connected to the power source by a connector 6, 7 when in operation, while the disk 5 is connected to the spark plug. The two disks form a capacitor. An electrode 8 is attached to a nut 7 securely holding the disk 4, and the other electrode 9 is attached to the nut 10 securing the disk 5. The part 11 allows the connection with the candle, which is screwed with its upper end in the sen part.
An annular disk 12 made of mica with a central opening 13 is clamped between the two parts 1. This disk 12 is intended to concentrate the lines of force of the electric field between the two electrodes 8, 9.
In the scheme of Fig. 1, a magnet apparatus, a series spark gap 15 with capacitor and a spark plug 16 is provided. In the scheme of FIG. 2, the series spark gap is designated by 15 '.
In Fig. 1, II shows the position of the anchor at which the spark arises, and III shows the position in which it ends when a candle is used without the aid of the pre-switched spark gap described. In this case, the distance IV to V represents the angle of rotation of the armature within which the demagnetization takes place.
VI, on the other hand, denotes the moment at which the spark ceases, if one uses the pre-connected spark gap described, and one sees that the entire distance from VI to V is then available for demagnetizing the armature.
The pre-connected spark gap offers particular advantages when used with magneto ignition devices, in that it prevents interference between two successive spark formation, which could be omitted in the case of safety spark gaps on magnet devices. It can be built into the body of the magneto ignition device, or the magnet can be designed in such a way that the series spark gap forms part of the magnet itself.
If an induction coil is used instead of a magnet device, the length of the spark gap between electrodes 8 and 9 must be reduced in accordance with the voltage. This distance is about twice as large with magnetic devices as with induction coils. The porcelain that encloses the device can be semi-transparent. It is then possible to prevent the sparks from forming between the electrodes. to be checked outside so that you know whether the current flowing through the candle fulfills the normal conditions.
The capacitor and auxiliary spark gap can be placed inside the spark plug itself.
