Process for the production of vulcanized rubber. The present invention relates to a process for the production of vulcanized rubber, whereby the expression vulcanized rubber is to be understood as meaning both the vulcanizates of natural rubber and synthetic, rubber-like compounds.
The process is characterized in that the vulcanization mixture is condensation products, which are obtained by condensation of α-naphthylamines with aliphatic aldehydes having at least two carbon atoms, such as acetaldehyde, aldol, crotonaldehyde, etc., in the presence of water-soluble alcohols and Acids and aftertreatment of the resinous products formed first with suitable liquids in which the former are insoluble, especially water, is added.
These products are excellent anti-aging agents for natural rubber types and synthetic, rubber-like compounds, such as those obtained, for example, by polymerizing butadiene-carbon hydrocarbons. They have the following advantages over the well-known condensation products of alphanaphthylamines and aliphatic aldehydes: They are yellowish, odorless, extremely. finely divided powders that can easily be rolled into rubber compounds.
Furthermore, they are indifferent to accelerators used at the same time in the sense that they neither inhibit nor activate their effect. In sunlight, vulcanizates which contain the bodies mentioned show only slight discoloration in comparison with mixtures which contain the previously known condensation products.
The products can also be used as anti-aging agents in such a way that they are dissolved in a suitable solvent, for example benzene, and the still unvulcanized rubber mixtures are coated with these solutions. Example: 1,7 ö des according to example 1 of the D. R. P.
No. 539181 become a vulcanization mixture, which consists of 100 g rubber, 30 g zinc oxide, 3.8 g sulfur, 1 g diphenylguanidine, 12.5 g titanium oxide (100 / Oo'ig ), added and the mixture at 31 / z Atm. Vapor pressure 30 respectively. Vulcanized for 50 minutes.
Aging samples in the Geerofen (70) gave the values shown in the following table after 2.5 and 10 days. The values obtained with the same rubber without the addition of an anti-aging agent have also been included in the table for comparison.
