Process for the preparation of an azo dye for cotton. According to Swiss patent specification 140099 and additives, several molecules are linked to one another by carefully reducing sulfo or carboxylic acids nitrobenzoylated aromatic amino compounds by converting two nitro groups into the azo or azoxy group.
According to the present invention, a dye is obtained which on cotton reddish Lich yellow, by post-treatment with copper salts gives light and washfast yellow dyeings; when using 4- (4'-nitrobenzoylamino) benzene-2-carboxylic acid 1,4'-azo-1-p-sulfophenyl-3'-methyl-5'-pyrazolone

Carefully reduced in the manner mentioned above Example: 18.2 parts of 5-nitro-2-aminobenzene-1-carboronic acid are diazotized as usual and with a cold, alkaline soda solution of 25.4 parts of 1-sulfophenyl -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone combined.
The dyestuff is converted into the amino compound by adding 15 parts of Na2S at 60, which, after the alkali has been blunted, is salted with hydrochloric acid. The nitro dye is yellow, the solution of the amino dye mixed with sodium carbonate is red-brown, it becomes light yellow with both acid and alkali hydroxide.
The dye is dissolved in 1000 parts of water, 15 parts of sodium bicarbonate are added at 50, whereupon a solution of 20 parts of 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride is added dropwise. The nitrobenzoyl compound precipitates and is separated from the liquid. Their aqueous solution is orange-yellow and becomes greener with sodium hydroxide.
The nitrobenzoyl dye is stirred up in 1000 parts of hot water and stirred with 15 parts of sodium hydroxide and 16 parts of grape sugar for 3 hours at GO.
The dye is then salted out and worked up in the usual way. It is reddish yellow and does not change color due to sodium hydroxide.
