Description
Process for the preparation of an ogycarboxylic acid of naphtocarbazole. It has been found that the action of carbonic acid on the alkali metal compounds of oxynaphthocarbazoles or on oxynaphthocarbazoles in the presence of hydroxides or carbonates of the alkalis leads to the hitherto unknown oxycarboxylic acids of the naphthocarbazoles.
For example, 5-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole is converted into 5-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole-carboxylic acid.
The new oxynaphthocarbazole carboxylic acids are valuable intermediate products for dyes and medicines.
The present invention now relates to a process for the preparation of 7-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole-o-carboxylic acid, characterized in that carbon acid is allowed to act on an alkali metal salt of 7-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole.
You can also use an alkali salt of 7-oxy-2,1-naphthocarbazole, which was formed during the reaction from the oxycarbazole and an alkaline agent, for example by subjecting the oxycarbazole in the gene table with the alkaline agent to the action of carbonic acid.
Alkaline agents are to be understood here as meaning the hydroxides or carbonates of alkalis.
Example 1 115 parts by weight of 7-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole (a-derivative), which has a melting point of 248 recrystallized from dilute alcohol, are finely ground with 350 parts by weight of potassium carbonate and added filled by glass beads in an autoclave. Then carbonic acid is injected and held at 210-220 and 40 atmospheric pressure for 10 hours. After cooling, the reaction product is taken up in water, filtered and the solution is acidified.
The resulting oxycarboxylic acid gives the typical blue iron chloride reaction. It is therefore an o-oxycarboxylic acid and looks green and yellow. The melting point is above 300. The 7-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole-o-carboxylic acid has a strong effect on the nasal mucous membranes. It is said to be used as an intermediate product in the manufacture of dyes and drugs.
Example 2: 100 parts by weight of 7-oxy-2.1-naphthocarbazole are mixed with 35 parts by weight of caustic potash and kept at 220 for 12 hours under carbonic acid pressure of 40 atmospheres pressure. The melt is then dissolved in water and precipitated with acid. The 7-oxy-a-naphthocar-bazole-o-carboxylic acid obtained is identical to that of Example 1.
