lorsque (fig. 2) le niveau atteint les élé ments du dispositif au repos, (fig. 3) l'inertie du liquide fait monter la cloche d jusqu'à ce que son bord touche le fond du boîtier b, puis le liquide remplit l'espace annulaire existant entre la cloche d et la paroi interne du boîtier b, l'air et les autres gaz chassés par le liquide franchissant la cloche par ses créneaux d pour s'échapper, sans entraîner le flotteur e bien au contraire, par le canal c ;
ensuite (fig. 4) le liquide pénètre, sous l'influence de sa pression, relativement len tement dans la cloche d par les créneaux d et l'ouverture d du fond de celle-ci, ceci sans frapper le flotteur e grâce à la présence du déflecteur d'; le flotteur e, sous la poussée du liquide qui a pénétré dans la cloche d amène le clapet f sur son siège c' établi sur le bossage c au débouché du canal c et ferme ainsi l'évacuation de l'air et des gaz;
alors (fig.
Automatic closure device for a receptacle to be filled with a determined quantity of liquid. The invention relates to automatic shut-off devices for containers having to be filled with a determined quantity of liquid and it relates more particularly to, among these devices, those which are used for the closing of gauges that include in particular fuel dispensers for locomotives.
It is known that in the float devices commonly used for the upper closure of the gauges in question, premature blockages often occur due either to the excessive speed of filling and consequently to the high air pressure of exhaust produced on the sealing means that the float comprises, or also by the flow of liquid directly influencing the float almost at the end of filling the gauge.
The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks. The accompanying drawing, given by way of example, shows an embodiment of this shutter device.
Fig. 1 shows a vertical section, Figs. 2 to G schematically show five successive phases of the operation of said device.
The cover or cap a of said gauge comprises a sort of case b open at its lower part and closed at its upper part; this housing b has at its upper part, an internal boss c, in which is drilled a passage c putting the interior of the gauge in communication with the atmosphere or with a neighboring gauge in the case where the distributor has two gauges.
In the housing b is arranged a kind of cylindrical sleeve or bell d of appropriate dimensions allowing it when resting to be flush with its bottom with the lower plane of the cap rtt to leave between its periphery and the internal wall of the housing b, between its wall internal and the periphery of the boss c, some annular space as shown in the drawing.
In the housing b, guides b1 keep the bell d substantially centered and stops bl limit its downward travel. The edge of the bell has notches or crenellations d and in its bottom is pierced a small opening d.
In the bell, above the opening d, at an appropriate distance therefrom, is arranged a support plate d 'serving as a deflector.
On this support plate is placed a float e provided with a. sort of aclapetn f. The operation of this obturator device, for example during rapid pumping, is very easy to understand, in fact by examining FIGS. 2 to 6 we see that:
when (fig. 2) the level reaches the elements of the device at rest, (fig. 3) the inertia of the liquid causes the bell d to rise until its edge touches the bottom of the housing b, then the liquid fills the annular space existing between the bell d and the internal wall of the housing b, the air and the other gases expelled by the liquid passing through the bell by its slots d to escape, without driving the float e on the contrary, by channel c;
then (fig. 4) the liquid penetrates, under the influence of its pressure, relatively slowly into the bell d by the crenellations d and the opening d at the bottom of the latter, without hitting the float e thanks to the presence of the deflector; the float e, under the pressure of the liquid which has penetrated into the bell d brings the valve f on its seat c 'established on the boss c at the outlet of the channel c and thus closes the evacuation of the air and gases;
then (fig. 5) the pressure inside and outside of the bell d being equalized, the latter abandons its upper bearing constituted by the internal face of the bottom of the housing b and falls back on the stops b2; finally (fig. 6) the liquid which was in the annular space between the bell d and the housing b stabilizes and the interior and exterior levels of the bell d equalize.
It is obvious from the foregoing that the closure device described makes it possible to obtain the most precise measurement, in fact there can no longer be any closure before the gauge (or other container to which the closure device is attached in question) is completely full.
