A waterproof pusher for a diver's watch The present invention relates to a waterproof pusher for a diver's watch comprising an axially movable part, slidably mounted on a tube fixed to the body of the box, partially enveloping this tube, and having a central core penetrating into the tube, at least one sealing element between the tube and the core and a return spring pushing the moving part outwards ,.
In the waterproof push-buttons currently used in diver's watches, it is necessary to use a sufficiently powerful return spring so that the push-piece is not compressed by the high pressures prevailing at great diving depths. This solution obviously has the drawback of requiring an excessively high manual pressure of the pusher when the latter is driven out of the water or at shallow depth.
In some screw-head pushers, the head has a section of shape different from that of the tube on which it is mounted to prevent any rotation of the head relative to the tube and thus prevent any unintended unscrewing of the head. A certain space is thus formed between the tube and the head which allows, to a small extent, water to penetrate into the head in order to compensate for the increase in the external pressure when diving without, however, the manufacturer. was aware of this possibility.
In another construction, the opposing pusher spring is omitted and the return of the pusher is provided by the opposing spring of the part of the internal mechanism. Such a measure makes this pusher perfectly unsuitable for fitting a diving chronograph and the fact of providing a small hole in the side wall of the head, for the evacuation of water which may be in the device, cannot prevent the pusher. to be activated in diving by the external pressure.
The present invention proposes measures suitable for improving these pushers by making it possible to use weaker springs for equal depths or to reach greater depths with the current springs.
The pusher according to the invention is characterized in that the annular space between the core and the enveloping part of said movable part communicates with the outside, both by a space left between the enveloping part and the tube and by at least one opening made in the upper part of the enveloping part and of sufficient size so that during diving the water easily penetrates into said annular space, so that the water pressure inside this space increases practically at the same time as the water pressure outside the pusher and adds its effect to that of said spring.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, three embodiments of the object of the invention.
In fig. 1 to 3, the same reference signs designate the same elements, these however exhibiting some differences in form. Fig. 1 shows a pusher comprising a tube 1 screwed into the case 2 of a diver's chronograph, the seal between the case and the tube being ensured by a gasket 3.
On the tube is mounted the head 4 of the pusher, comprising a cylindrical central core 5, sliding in a bore 6 of the tube 1, and a cylindrical wall 7 having grooves 8 partially enveloping the tube 1 having corresponding grooves 9 engaging in the grooves 8 so as to prevent a rotation of the head of the pusher, a clearance being however left between the grooves 8 and 9 to allow the water to enter the annular space 10 between the core 5 and the wall 7. In the core 5 is screwed a rod 11 for controlling the internal organs of the chronograph.
A helical spring 12 is compressed between the end of the core 5 and a lower edge 13 of the tube 1. The seal of the plunger is ensured by two annular gasket linings 13 and 14 arranged in a housing made in the tube 1 and hand held axially by a washer 15 crimped at the upper end of the tube.
During the dive, the water enters the space 10 and the pressure in this space increases almost at the same time as the external pressure acting on the head of the pusher. Its effect is thus added to that of the res sort 12, thus making it possible to use a weaker spring than if the latter had to withstand all the external pressure alone. However, during a rapid dive, the outside pressure rises faster than the pressure inside the space 10, the grooves 8,9 acting as baffles slowing the entry of water into the chamber. 'space 10.
To remedy this drawback, one or more lateral holes 16 are provided through the wall 7 of the pusher, these holes being of sufficiently large diameter to allow rapid entry of water into the space 10.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the core 5 of the pusher head is more elongated, the spring 12 being arranged around the core between the upper part of the head 4 and the bottom of a sleeve 17 housed in the tube 1 and axially retaining the linings 13 and 14. This solution has the advantage of allowing easy assembly and disassembly of the tappet, in particular easy replacement of the seal linings 13 and 14. In fact, the sleeve 17 is not crimped in the tube but simply held by the spring 12, it can be easily removed after unscrewing the screw 11.
In a third embodiment shown in Figure 3, the seals 13 and 14 are no longer mounted in the tube, but on the core 5 of the head of the pusher. This core has for this purpose a neckline part 18 on which are introduced the linings 13 and 14, the latter then being held axially by a washer 19 fixed to the core 5 by means of a bearing surface of the screw I1. . This solution makes it possible, during a repair, to remove the linings 13 and 14 with the head of the pusher. The return spring 12 is arranged as in FIG. 1.
Many variations are possible both in the arrangement and fixing of the seals and in the arrangement of the return spring.
