Phonographe.
Phonograph. The object of this invention is a phonograph of the kind which comprises a diaphragm connected to an internal horn arranged, in a box forming a small furniture, under a platform above the shovel, there is a movable arm carrying the diaphragm and a rotating disc holder.
We know that the acoustic performance of such a phonograph, from the point of view of soundness and the power of the sounds it emits, depends above all on the shape and length of the duct through which the sounds pass before leaving the chamber. flag. However, in many instruments of the type in question, considerations of bulkiness prevent an acoustic duct having the length and the capacity of the phonograph cabinet or furniture. required. In such cases, attempts have been made to obtain the required length by using an elongated, bent and curved or twisted acoustic arm in various ways so as not to be, despite its extra length,
more by filling a straight acoustic arm between its end of connection with the inner horn and its opposite end carrying the diaphragm. However, this arrangement has the drawback of making the acoustic arm too heavy. Indeed, although there are devices for counterbalancing the weight of the acoustic arm in the vertical direction, a very considerable friction is exerted by the needle on the sides of the grooves of the disc as a result of the force required to move the acoustic arm radially. Also the use of an acoustic arm having the folded shape mentioned above has the double disadvantage of impairing to a certain extent the soundness of the sounds emitted by the phonograph and \,
prematurely wear the discs.
The phonograph, object of the present invention, is characterized in that, between the acoustic arm and an opening giving access to the interior horn and made in the aforementioned platform is interposed a pipe for conducting sound waves, fixed and rigid. of greater cross section at one end than the other, and playing the role of amplifying horn, the smaller end of which, preferably placed in the vicinity of the periphery of said plate, is connected to the acoustic arm by the intermediary of a joint allowing movement of this arm above the disc.
Preferably, the terminal portion of smaller cross section of the amplifier horn is arranged vertically and connected to one end of the acoustic arm by a joint allowing this arm to oscillate about a vertical axis, said arm being bent by. way to present a horizontal part moving above the disc, and being advantageously formed of elbow skies connected to each other, by a joint allowing them to vote in relation to each other , one of these elbows constituting a swivel connector on the vertical end of the amplifier fixed pipe, while the other carries the diaphragm.
In this case, that of the elbows which is connected to the amplifying horn may preferably vote using an arc maintained by a tab secured to said horn and placed in the extension of the geometric axis of the adjacent vertical end portion of said horn. .
The appended drawing partially represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the phonograph according to the invention.
Fig. 1 and 2 are a plan and an elevation of a first embodiment; Fig. 3 to 5 show various variations of the form which the fixed adjunctive external horn intended to amplify sounds can take.
In the cabinet or cabinet enclosing the engine and the interior pavilion is made an opening a coinciding with the smallest mouth, that is to say the entrance mouth of said pavilion, or that this opening a constitutes by itself this mouth, either that it is connected to it, Over the opening a and outside ment to the body is subject the largest mouth of a pipe b of transverse section going by brandishing of one end to the other, and constituting an external tubular organ which amplifies the sounds.
This pipe or amplifier horn combined with the interior horn has the length necessary to produce the required sound and in fact formed a visible exterior horn extending the interior horn; it is curved or rolled up on itself as shown and its small mouth ends with a vertical part b 'close to the edge of the disc holder plate represented by the dotted line c. To this vertical part b1 of the amplifying horn b which is fixed, is connected the vertical branch d of an elbow connector, also tubular, forming an extension of said horn.
A ball bearing or other bearing is provided to allow this elbow joint to oscillate about a vertical axis relative to the fixed part b '. In addition, a small axis e or an equivalent member projecting relative to the connector - elbowed in the extension of the geometrical axis die its branch d and passing through an opening made in a tab b2 integral with the horn b is preferably provided. to relieve the rolling of the effort exerted on it.
The horizontal arm d 'of the first elbow d is preferably re curved at its end at d2 and connected by means of a suitable joint f with a second tubular elbow forming its extension therein and on the mouth of which the diaphragm II is fitted. . It is this seal f which allows the latter to be turned upside down to stop contact between the needle and the disc; it comprises a stop intended to support the diaphragm 1r and the elbow y when the latter is rotated to return the diaphragm on itself. The d-elbow and the g-elbow constitute the movable acoustic arm.
In fig. 1 and 2, the vertical end-part b 'of the tube b or fixed external amplifying horn is shown directed upwards, while in FIG. 3, this vertical end part of the horn of substantially identical shape and structure is directed downwards.
In fig. 4, the general arrangement of the fixed amplifier horn is horizontal as in the previous figures, but this horn here has a greater length in the sense that it has an additional turn or volute turn.
Finally, in fig. 5, the general arrangement of said fixed amplifier horn is vertical instead of being horizontal.
It is understood that, thanks to the addition of a pipe b or external amplifier horn such as that which has just been described, the internal pavilion can be of simple construction, which in itself is very desirable.
It is understood that the various forms which have been shown constitute only examples of execution of the object of the invention, to which the latter is not limited.
