Portable talking machine. The present invention relates to a portable speaking machine.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention, as well as variant details.

Figs. 9 and 10. are two transverse vertical sections made respectively following A-.9_ and B-B of fig. 2; Figs. 11 and 12 are detail views showing the sleeve intended to hold the disc applied to the plate; Figs. 13 and 14 show a variant of this sleeve; Fig. 15 is a plan view of a second embodiment of the apparatus; Fig. 16 is a side view; Fig. 17 is a front view of the reproducer;
The fi-. 18 is a detail view in section, taken along the line 18-18 of FIG. 15.
In the first embodiment, the box 1 which is provided with a removable cover or cha skin 2, contains the motor whose vertical shaft 3 passes through said cap 2, protrudes outside the latter, and carries a plate circular 4 of small diameter, intended to support and drive * a disc of ordinary dimensions.
On the upper edge of one of its short sides, this box 1 door, hinged at 5 hinge, a cover 6 which forms, in its position folded down on the box body, a compartment of suitable height housing the breeder 7 and a pavilion 8 with adjustable length, mounted on the reproducer.
In the embodiment shown, this reproducer 7, -which was the subject of patent no.115739, has at two suitable points two circular orifices 9 and 10 arranged perpendicularly to each other and intended , as explained in the above-mentioned patent, to allow the breeder to be mounted on the same support arm in two different positions, depending on whether the lever 11, integral with the membrane of this breeder, must, for the 'execution, be provided with a needle or a sapphire.
On this reproducer, is mounted, as described in patent no.115967, a horn consisting, in the example shown, by a bellows 8 provided, at its large base, with a metal frame, which is connected to the body of the reproducer 7 by Nuremberg scissors 12; or other articulated spacer, allowing the folding of the flag 8 into the rest position and its housing in the box 1. as shown in fig. 1 or the development of this horn to the desired length, depending on the desired quality and the power of the sounds, as shown in fig. 3 and 4.
Figs. 5 and 6 show, by way of example, the same device provided with a foldable roof not comprising any support members.
The reproducer 7 with its flag 8 are mounted, for playing, on a support of particular arrangement and consisting of two arms, one of which is formed by a metal rod 13 bent at right angles at its two ends in two opposite directions. so as to present two branches of unequal length 14 and 15.
In the rest position, the larger branch 15 takes place in a socket 16 fixed in one of the corners of the box body 1, part 13 rests on the plate 2 iron inant this box, and is held in place, on the latter, by means of a hook for mant spring 17, fixed on said plate. The other branch 14, of shorter length, is kept raised vertically above this plate as seen in FIG. 2 and 9.
To play, this arm is brought by a rotation of half a turn in the sleeve 16, as shown in FIG. 3 to 8, in a position such that the portion 13 and the perpendicular portion 14 of this arm project outside the box.
The second arm is also formed by a metal rod 18, bent in such a way as to form a U, one of the branches 19 of which, of greater length than the other 20, is extended by a bent part 21 ending in a socket. 22.
To play, this socket 22 engages, as shown in FIG. 3 to 8, on the end of the small branch 14 of the first arm, the small branch? 0 of the second arm engages either in the orifice 9 of the reproducer, if the latter is provided with a needle, as it is represented in fig. 3 and 4, or in the second orifice 10 of the same reproducer, if the latter is provided with a sapphire, as shown in FIG. 5 and 6.
The need to give the reproducer different positions, depending on whether a needle or a sapphire is used, arises from the fact that the direction of the striations which form the grooves of the discs is different in the two cases and requires, for to play with a needle reproducer, that the vibrating membrane of this reproducer is placed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the radius of the disc and to play with a sapphire reproducer that this same membrane is placed in a plane substantially parallel to this radius.
When the breeder is playing with a needle, it is possible to rotate it around the small branch 20 of the support arm described above and bring it to the position shown in broken lines in fig. 3 and 4, in which this reproducer rests in the U part formed by the second arm and completely disappears above the plate 3, so that it is easy to remove the disc which rests on the latter, to replace it with another and to change the needle.
When the device is not in use, the second support arm defined above is placed in the cover 6 of the box 1 and is held in the latter by a hook 23 forming a spring.
This hook 23, fixed on the cover 6, is formed so that it is possible to accommodate between a flat part 23, at its end closest to the bottom of the cover, and this cover encircles a small needle box 32.
The winding crank also takes place in the box, the arm 24 of this crank resting on the removable plate 2 of said box, on which it is held by the spring hook 17 holding the first pitch 13, 14, 15, the handle 25 of this crank entering inside said box through an opening 26 cut in the plate 2.
This crank ends with a threaded portion 27 which fits, by screwing, into a sleeve with internal thread integral with the winding shaft.
Finally, the disc 28 of usual diameter rests on the plate 4 of small diameter, and is firmly held on the latter by means of a sleeve 29 which covers the upper end of the vertical shaft carrying the disc and has one or more spring chins 30 or other suitable locking members engaging in a circular groove 31 of the shaft 3 as shown in fig. 11.
In the variant fig. 13 and 14, the spring sleeve 29 which covers the upper end of the shaft 3 has at its lower end two diametrically opposed slots in which a U-shaped spring engages, the branches of which penetrate into the circular groove of the 'tree 3.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 15 to 18, 50 designates the box and 51 the lid of the latter; in this example, the roof 52 is also extendable and foldable and is provided, at its outer end, with a rigid rectangular frame 53 having a sleeve 54 at its lower portion.
The sleeve carries the horizontal portion 55 of an articulated angular arm 56, the vertical portion 57 of which can be inserted, as shown in FIG. 18, in a socket 58 of the cover.
The portion 57 can freely rotate in the socket 58 and the portion 55 can easily rotate in the socket 54, but the part 55 is held against axial displacement by any suitable means.
By this arrangement, the outer end of the flag 52 can oscillate around the horizontal axis and the vertical axis. The oscillating movement around the horizontal axis allows the small end of the bell to be lifted upwards to allow a disc to be placed on the platter 59, and the oscillation around the vertical axis allows needle or sapphire crystal to move from the outer edge of the disc to the center of the disc.
The reproducer 60 is disposed at the small end of the flag and, in this embodiment, the reproducer can oscillate about a vertical axis to place this reproducer parallel to the frame 53 at an angle, with respect to this frame. , with the aim of making it possible to play records by means of a needle or sapphire.
For this purpose,. articulated members are pivotally connected to the frame 53, at points 63, and to the reproducer, at points 63. The pivots, at points 63, are formed by knurled screws 64, which allow the re producer to be fixed in different positions. When the player is placed at an angle to the frame 53, a needle 65, held in place by a knurled screw 66, can be used to play a record.
When, however, the reproducer is arranged parallel to the frame 53, a sapphire can be placed in the opening 67 and held in place by a similar knurled screw. Obviously, the needle must be removed when sapphire is used and vice versa. The box 50 naturally encloses the motor, and the crank, not shown, takes place inside the cover in its closed position.
