Phonographe.
Phonograph. The present invention relates to a phonograph having the particular feature that with a reproducer are combined several peacocks, supported individually and means for conducting, simultaneously, the sound of the reproducer to said flags.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention; Fig. 1 is a plan, the cover of a cabinet which contains the instrument being either green, or raised; Fig. 2 is a front elevation; Fig. 3 is a plan, on a larger scale, similar to FIG. 1, the cabinet which contains the instrument being omitted; and Fig. 4 is an elevation, on a larger scale, seen from the right side of FIG. 3, with some parts in section.
The embodiment shown as a phonograph cabinet 5, provided with feet 6, a cover 7 and doors 8 closing the flared ends of the pavilions, or resonance chambers, 9. In the upper part of the cabinet 5 , there is a turntable 10, on which the phonographic disc 10a is placed.
The sounds are conducted simultaneously from the reproducer 11 to the pavilions 9 by a series of connecting members, gradually moving together, which will be described. The breeder has a diaphragm of the usual type (not shown) arranged centrally in the chamber of the breeder and connected, at its center, to the lever 12 by which it is actuated and at the lower end of which the needle is gripped. 13 arranged to follow the groove of the disc 1011. On opposite sides of the reproducer are arranged, in the center thereof, annular flanges 14 which receive and rigidly hold, by means of clamping screws 15, the bent ends of the tubes 16 .
The other ends of the tubes 16 are bent in opposite directions and are received in bends 17 in which they can rotate to allow the tubes to freely pivot in the vertical direction. Although this connection can be effected by a screw thread fitting, the arrangement which is preferable to adopt consists in providing, in the elbows 17, screws 18 working in grooves, not shown, made in the ends. tubes 16.
The vertical parts of the elbows 17 are gradually enlarged and are connected by a screw-threaded socket, allowing them free pivoting movement in the horizontal direction, with the vertically bent ends, 19, of the tubular arms, 20, arranged horizontally. These arms 20 go by gradually extending towards the rear of the furniture and their rear ends are bent at 90 degrees, so as to descend vertically to come to bear on the internal shoulders, 21, of ferrules 22 which are screwed onto the ends of the conduits 23, which can be supported on the cabinet by consoles 23.
The means employed to hold the arms 20 in a horizontal position and their rear ends in the ferrules 22, preferably comprise brackets 24 curved above the parts 20e and freely receiving pivots 25 located in alignment with the axes of the conduits 23 and secured in the parts 201, the horizontal arms 20. The lower ends of the consoles 24 are formed by rings 26 held in the desired positions on the conduits 23 by clamping screws 27. The conduits 23 descend into the cabinet, to the rear thereof, curve in opposite directions and gradually widen as they approach the rear ends of the pavilions 9, to which they are linked.
If desired, each horn can oscillate, or swivel, with the corresponding arm 20, in which case the tube 23 swivels in the bracket 23 'and the connection between the parts 20 and 22 is made by a threaded connection. screw, or otherwise established so as to be fixed.
The dimensions of the entire reproducer, including the reproducer itself and the tubes 16, are such that the distance between the vertical pivot axes of the front ends 19 of the horizontal arms 20 is exactly equal to the distance which exists. between the axes of the vertical pivots of the rear ends, 20a, of these same arms which are also equal. Since the plane passing through the axes of the fixed vertical pivots of the rear ends of the arms 20 remains fixed, the articulated system which has just been described, including the reproducer, maintains the plane passing through the front vertical pivot axes of the arms 20 always parallel to the plane passing through the axes of the rear pivots.
The axis of the reproducer is thus, in all positions, parallel to the planes passing through the anterior pivot axes and the axes of the rear pivots, respectively, as the reproducer moves radially with respect to the disc. Although during this movement the needle describes an arc, the combined length of the arms 20 and the tubes 16 is such that the arrow of this arc is so small that it can be considered practically as a line. right. As a result, the reproducer 11 is always arranged tangentially with respect to the groove of the disc and any torsional movement, or angular displacement, of the reproducer is thus avoided. The two pavilions 9 are preferably constructed in the same way and of the same length.
The above-described arrangement consists in driving the sound simultaneously to each of the horns, doubling the intensity of the sound without this being to the detriment of its quality. The intensity of the sound can be controlled or adjusted to any desired degree by closing, completely or partially, one of these pavilions, or both, by means of the doors 8 provided on the cabinet. If desired, the tonal effects of the sounds can be varied by changing the shape of the horns by making them different lengths, or by placing them one above the other.
