Process for the preparation of a stain dye. The main patent describes a process according to which a valuable stain dye is obtained by diazotizing the amino group in p-amino-o-sulfobenzolazosalicylic acid and combining it with salicylic acid.
It has now been found that a similar dye is obtained if the amino group in the monoazo dye is diazotized with p-amino-o-sulfobenzolazo-o-1, # '- resotinic acid and coupled with o-cresotinic acid.
p-Amino-o-sulfobenzolazo-o-cresotinic acid can be obtained in various ways, for example: 1. Monoacetyl-p-phenylenediaminesulfonic acid is diazotized and coupled with o-cresotinic acid. In the azo dye obtained, the acetyl group is eliminated by saponification and the free amino group is formed.
2. p-Nitraniline-o-sulfonic acid is diazotized and coupled with o-cresotinic acid in a known manner. In the monoazo dye obtained, the nitro group is reduced to the amino group.
The body retained in one way or another is diazotized and coupled with o-xresotinic acid. The same final dye is always obtained.
The process is illustrated by the following example: 35.1 parts of p-amino-o-sulfobenzolazo-o-cresotinic acid are mixed with 30 parts of hydrochloric acid in the form of a fine aqueous suspension with cooling and diazotized by slowly adding 7 parts of sodium nitrite. The sparingly soluble, reddish brown colored diazo body is filtered off and stirred in a moist state in a solution of 15.2 parts of o-cresotinic acid, 4 parts of caustic soda and 20 parts of soda in 200 parts of water.
After the coupling has ended, it is diluted with water, warmed up and the resulting solution is filtered. The new dye formed is salted out in the filtrate, filtered off and dried.
The new dye dissolves in water with a yellow-brown color, which changes to red-violet when caustic soda is added. In concentrated sulfuric acid it dissolves with a reddish blue color. It is precipitated as brown flakes by diluting this solution with water.
The new dye stains chrome-plated rolls in brownish-orange shades. Printed with chrome stain on cotton, it gives strong brownish orange nuances with good fastness properties and which are a little more reddish than those of the dye of the main patent.
