Process for the production of Eth3llactat. The present invention relates to a process for the production of ethyl acetate, which is characterized in that ethyl alcohol, water and acetalclehyic anhydrin are allowed to act on one another in the presence of a halogenic acid.
As tests have shown, the best yields are achieved when on 1 hol. Cyan liyclrin 1. Mol. Water is used. The acid v, @ irtl is expediently added in such an amount, possibly also in a slight excess, that all the ammonia released is bound; any halogen acid can be used and is particularly suitable.
Hydrogen chloride. The water can be added as such to the anhydrous constituents, but it is more expedient to use water-containing alcohol and water-containing acid; Advantageously, the ratio of one molecule of water to one molecule of acetaldehyde cyanohydrin is applied because. otherwise, for example with two molecules of water, the ester yield drops immediately from 90 to 7.0%.
The reaction probably follows one of the following groups of equations:
EMI0001.0020
or
EMI0002.0001
Example <I> 1: </I> 710 parts (one molecule) of acetaldehyde cyanohydrin, 1800 parts (three molecules) of 99% ethyl alcohol and 258 parts of aqueous hydrochloric acid (85.5%) are placed in a container that has a Has a reflux condenser, a thermometer and a gas inlet tube, mixed.
The mixture is drier at 30 to 35 C while cooling with water; gaseous hydrogen chloride is passed in and the container by time. weighed at time. When a total of 370 parts of hydrogen chloride have been fed in, the gas flow is shut off and the product, which now contains a relatively large amount of a crystalline precipitate of ammonium chloride, is heated to about 80 ° C. for about three hours . After cooling, the solid ammonium chloride is filtered off from the reaction product and carefully washed with as little alcohol as possible. The selected proportions show that only one molecule of Cya.nhydrin is supplied and that hydrogen chloride is present in an approximately 1% excess.
This acid residue is neutralized with the calculated amount of alcoholic ammonia and the reaction mixture filtered off from salmia, which consists of ethyl lactate and excess alcohol applied, is subjected to fractional distillation at ordinary pressure or in vacuo, leaving a small residue. The cyanohydrin is converted almost quantitatively to ethyl acetate, Example <I> 2 </I> An alcoholic chlorine hydrogen solution is advantageously used, since this can be made in stock.
For example, 90 percent by weight of hydrogen chloride gas is introduced into alcohol up to an acid content of 18 to 24%.
143.5 parts by weight (two molecules) of pure acetaldehyde cyanohydrin (99%) and 180 parts by weight of ethyl alcohol (96%) are heated to approximately 55 C - and now slowly 356.4 parts by weight of an alcoholic, 28.6% strength, while stirring Chlorine hydrogen solution added. The alcohol used already contains the required water (28.5 -f- 7.2) = 35.7 grams or around two molecules.
The reaction proceeds calmly with the elimination of ammonium chloride. The temperature should initially be kept below 70 C in order not to risk losses of hydrochloric acid and alcohol as a result of the formation of ethyl chloride, as well as a re-decomposition of lactic acid ester and its intermediate products. After adding the hydrogen chloride solution, which takes about 21/2 hours, the mixture is kept at 82 to 85 ° C. for three hours.
Since in the present case there is excess hydrogen chloride, the acid number is determined and the liquid is neutralized with an alcoholic caustic alkali solution, alcoholic ammonia, sodium acetate or another neutralizing agent. After the solid precipitate has been filtered off, the product is distilled.
In this way, 205.5 parts of ester with a boiling point of 148 to 150 ° C are obtained, which corresponds to a yield of 90% and 100 parts of ammonium chloride is equal to 93.6%. B>% yield. A small residue of <B> 7 </B>, 5 parts remains after fractionation.
