Process for the preparation of a vat dye of the 2-Perinaphtliogypentliiophen- 2-indolindigor eilie. It has been found that by condensing perynaphtoxypenthiophene and its derivatives substituted in the naphthalene nucleus with a-isatin bodies of the general formula:
EMI0001.0008
where R is an optionally substituted aryl radical of the benzene or naphthalene series, R1 is a halogen or an arylido group, to give blue to green vat dyes of the 2-thionaphthene-2-indolindigo series.
Of the derivatives of perinaphtoxypenthiophene substituted in the naphthalene nucleus, for example 2- or 5-chloroperinaphtoxypenthiophene, 2-amino- or 2-acylaminoperinaphtoxypenthiophene, 2-acylamino-6-bromo- or 2-acylamino-6-bromine- or 2-acylamino-6-bromine may be mentioned as being particularly suitable for the process -Acylamino-'I-methoxy- .perinaplitoxypenthiophene ,, 4-acylaminoperi- naphtoxypenthiophene etc.
It is noteworthy that dyes which contain the acylamino group in the 2-position generally color in blue tones, but that after saponification of the acyl group the color usually changes to green.
The dyes obtained in this way have a good affinity for vegetable and animal fibers and excellent light fastness.
The present patent now relates to a process for the preparation of a blue vat dye of the 2-perinaphtoxy-pentliiophen-2-indolindigo series of the formula:
EMI0001.0038
by condensation of Perinaphtoxypenthiophene with a 4,7-dichloro-a-isatin- l; hrper of the formula:
EMI0002.0005
wherein R ,. means a residue which is split off during the condensation.
When dry, the dye is a dark blue powder, soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid with a blue color; he gives a brown-colored vat with alkaline hydrosulphite and dyes cotton and - \ Tolle in this vat in vivid blue tones of excellent lightfastness.
Example: 6.5 parts of 4,7-dichloroisatin are suspended in about 150 parts of chlorobenzene and converted into the 4,7-dichloro-a-isatin chloride in the usual way with the aid of 6.5 parts of phosphorus pentachloride.
The solution thus obtained is ver sets at ordinary temperature with a solution of 6 parts of perinaphtoxypenthiophene in about 15 times the amount of chlorobenzene. The dye formation begins in the cold and is accelerated by warming up on the water bath. As soon as the same is finished, the dye is filtered, washed and dried. In place of the 4. 7-dichloro-a-isatin chloride, a 4.7-dichloro-a-isatin chloride can be used with the same success.
