Four-stroke engine for vehicles that can be used for braking. The subject matter of the present invention is an improvement of the invention according to the main patent. The subject of the invention of the main patent is a four-stroke engine for vehicles that can be used for braking, in which an axially displaceable camshaft in the working position by means of control cams actuates both the inlet and the exhaust valve and in the braking position the exhaust valve is actuated by special auxiliary cams while the inlet valve remains closed, so.
that be special shut-off devices in the suction line are superfluous, with at least some of the cams having flats that facilitate the axial displacement of the camshaft. The present invention consists in that the braking work performed in the braking position can be adjusted by an adjustable throttle element in the exhaust. -.
As an embodiment of the subject matter of the present invention, the drawing represents a four-cylinder engine, specifically showing it: Fug: -1 partly in view, partly in _S, ehnitt, .-. -.
- - - - .. - - - Fig. 2 in section, through the exhaust control when working, Fig. 3 in the same section, when braking, Fig. 4 in section through the inlet control - tion during braking, Fig. 5 the camshaft in the braking position, Fig. 6 and 7 sections through the camshaft,
8 shows a part of the camshaft with tappets on a larger scale in the .Stel development according to FIG. 5.
With the camshaft 29, the gear 34 is coupled by means of spring wedges, which is secured against lateral displacement and is driven by the crankshaft, not shown. The camshaft is shifted by means of the lever 35.
To fix the camshaft in its two positions there is a ball 36 which is under spring pressure and which snap into two grooves 37, 38 provided on the camshaft 29. The camshaft 29 carries the inlet cams 18, 20, 21 and 23, the exhaust cams -17, 19, 22 and 24 and the auxiliary cams 25, 26, 27, 28, which for this purpose nen, the engine as. Let the brake compressor run. To operate each valve is a plunger 9 BEZW. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 are provided.
From the plunger a rod leads to the valve lever 31 BEZW. 32 with the pivot 30 respectively. 33. One arm of the lever presses on the valve spindle with an adjusting screw. The auxiliary cams 25, 26, 27, - 28 are arranged so that when the camshaft is shifted to the left according to FIG. 5, they underneath the tappets 9, 11, 14, 16, which the exhaust valves 1, 3 , 6 and 8 be activated. In the position according to FIG. 5, the exhaust cams 17, 19, 22, 24 and the inlet cams 18, 20, 21, 23 of the inlet valves 2, 4, 5 and 7 are inactive.
When the camshaft 29 is brought into the position according to FIG. 1 by means of the lever 25, the four-stroke engine works. The exhaust valves 1, 3, 6, 8 are actuated by the cams 17, 19, 22, 24 by means of the tappets 9, 11, 14, 16. The inlet valves 2, 4, 5, 7 are opened by the cams 18, 20, 21, 23 by means of the tappets 10, 12, 13, 15. If the four-stroke engine is now to work as a brake, the lever 35 is used to activate the cam shaft 29 according to Fig. 5 set.
Here, the cams 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 'come out of action and the auxiliary cams 25, 26, 27, 28 begin to operate the outlet valves 1, 3, 6, 8. The inlet valves remain closed so that no fuel-air mixture is sucked from the carburetor into the cylinder during the suction period. Since there is no combustion taking place while the engine is working as a brake, these gases would be pushed into the open without being burned, which would greatly annoy the occupants and the driver of a vehicle.
When braking, the piston in each cylinder sucks in air when it goes down through the exhaust valve opened by one of the auxiliary cams, which is compressed when the piston goes up. The movement of the piston is thus opposed by a resistance that has a braking effect on the vehicle. Shortly before the top dead center, the exhaust valve is opened by the other cam, which faces the first cam. As a result, the pressurized air escapes, so that there is atmospheric pressure in the cylinder as soon as the piston begins its decline. During the same rend the exhaust valve 8 remains open and in turn the cylinder is filled with air, which is then compressed when the piston goes up.
So while in each cylinder, when the engine is working, a duty cycle takes place every two revolutions, when the engine is working as a brake, air is compressed at every revolution, which has a braking effect on the vehicle.
Since the control cams for the inlet and exhaust valves and the auxiliary bones are independent of each other, they can all be designed so that the engine delivers maximum power when it is working and maximum power when it brakes. In order to be able to set the braking power, is in the exhaust port, the throttle valve 41 to the pin 40 arranged to swing. A rotary valve, for example, can also be used instead of the throttle valve.
If the throttle valve assumes the position according to FIG. 2, then in the braking position the air is sucked in and the same expelled without hindrance. But if the throttle flap 41 is in the position shown in FIG. 3, the air is throttled when it is sucked in and therefore there is a reduction in the compression and heremil: a reduction in the braking work. However, the inclined throttle valve does not allow the air compressed in the cylinder to flow out immediately, so that part of it in the cylinder still has a driving effect on the piston. This reduces the braking power even more.
By adjusting the throttle valve, it is therefore possible, please include to regulate the braking power from zero (valve closed ge) to the maximum (valve open) (position to Fig. 2).
