Lubricating device. The present invention relates to a lubricating apparatus designed to allow the lubrication to be carried out with great cleanliness and great ease of operation, by producing high pressure with minimal effort.
In this apparatus, a piston pump is combined with a lubricant reservoir which may be disposed axially or laterally with respect to this pump.
The reservoir could be supplied by means of removable containers which are placed on a suitable connector or it could itself be constituted by an interchangeable removable container.
The flexible tube connector generally used is replaced by a connector formed of a rigid tube articulated on the pump body.
This device has the advantage of facilitating the release of the head of the lubricator, a forward thrust can be easily exerted with the rigid tube, while the flexible tube flexes and manages to be damaged quickly. In addition, a check valve is placed at the outlet of the pump body; as soon as the pressure in the pump body ceases, said valve being returned to its seat by a spring sucks a little of the lubricant contained in the articulated tube and the fitting so that no part of this lubricant can spread to the exterior and that the appliance is always kept clean.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention. .
Figs. 1 and 2 relate to a first embodiment; Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the apparatus; Fig. 2 shows a wise filling container; Fig. 3 relates to a second embodiment; Fig. 4 shows a variant of the check valve.
In fig. 1 and 2, the apparatus comprises a body 1 forming a reservoir, in the bottom of which a rod forming a piston 2 can slide against the action of a return spring 3 placed on the outside.
On the piston 2 is fixed an operating button 4 and the body 1 is provided with a handle 5, so that by accommodating the button 4 in the palm of the hand and by pulling the handle with the fingers it is possible push piston 2 back into body 1.
In this movement, this piston enters a gasket 6 of a cylinder 7 and when the pressure of the hand comes to cease, the piston returns backwards, producing a vacuum in this cylinder.
When the piston escapes from cylinder 7, there is violent suction of the lubricant contained in body 1 in this cylinder.
If then the piston 2 is advanced again, the lubricant is forced into the pipe through a check valve comprising a gasket 9 on which a plunger 10 pressed by a spring 11.
The length of the piston 2 is such that the end of this piston comes, a few millimeters before the end of its stroke, to bear on the pusher 10 which is thus pushed back against the action of the spring 11. At the time the recoil of the piston 2, the leather 9 comes to its place and a slight vacuum forms in the tube 12; this is sufficient to remove any pressure in the pipe, the capacity of which is low: this prevents any escape of lubricant through the connection when the latter is separated from the lubricator.
When the reservoir 1 is empty, the cylinder 7 is unscrewed and it is replaced by a tube 21 shown in FIG. 2.
This tube, made of flexible metal, lead, tin, for example, can be rolled up on itself and emptied by means of a key 22. The lubricant is thus introduced into the reservoir, then the tube 21 is removed. we can throw. The tightness of the reservoir 1 can be ensured as follows: a piston comprising a hub 23, on which two deep-drawn leathers 24 and 25 are held by screwed rings 26, is free in the body 1 and can slide on the piston 2. The hub 23 is provided with a conical seat 27 on which rests a row of balls 28 pushed by a spring 29.
Under these conditions, when the piston 2 advances, the balls advance on the surface 27 and tend to get stuck between this surface and the piston 2; it follows that the hub 23 is driven with the leathers 24 and 25. This drive is all the more energetic as the slope of the cone is more pronounced. This slope is preferably calculated such that as soon as the lubricant in the reservoir 1 gives substantial resistance, the hub 23 comes to a stop and the balls rotate in place. In order to prevent these balls from taking off, the spring 29 is provided, for example composed of two Belleville washers, exerting gentle and continuous pressure on the balls and keeping them in contact with the bearing surface 27.
The leather 25 is intended to prevent the passage of lubricant under pressure.
The leather 24 prevents the re-entry of air during reloading.
The pipe comprises a rigid tube 12 "joined to the cylinder 7 by means of an articulated joint 13. This device allows the apparatus to go anywhere and to hang easily without having the drawbacks of flexible pipes. the parts can be obtained by turning, which gives a significant saving.
The connector 14 is of the groove type commonly used, but its parts are designed so that they can also be turned.
Fig. 3 relates to a variant in which the lubricant is contained in a removable container 8 which is fixed to the side of the body 1, by screwing, for example.
The bottom of this container is pierced with an air hole 15; a crimped leather 16 guided on a rod 17 integral with this base forms a piston in the receptacle 8 and prevents the lubricant from escaping through this hole 15 when the apparatus is lying down or overturned.
As the lubricant is sucked into the cylinder 7 and discharged to its destination, the piston formed by the leather 16 gives way under atmospheric pressure and ash downwards until it is completely drained.
The box 8, once empty, can be exchanged for a similar full box, or it can be filled by removing the bottom 18 which is mounted in simple interlocking and the piston 16.
The check valve can equally well be constituted by a single piston or by a piston comprising two cylindrical parts of different diameters; this latter embodiment is shown in FIG. 4.
In this case, the spring 11 acts on the large base of the piston and the passage of the lubricant is effected by openings 20 which unmask when the pressure exerted by the piston 2 pushes the piston 19 to the left.
