On peut admettre que, pour les courants à haute fréquence, les batteries H-et B ne présentent qu'une résistance négligeable, car si pratiquement ce n'était pas le cas, il. suf firait de les shunter au moyen d'un très grand condensateur .K;
Les os cillations à basse fréquence traversent l'induc tance 5 qui rie leur offre qu'une faible im pédance, et agissent sur Gi ; elles se re trouvent amplifiées dans le circuit de l'anode Ai, et au moyen du transformateur 16 sont reportées sur la grille G2 ;
La fig. 18 est un schéma se rapportant à une amplification à deux tubes Yi et V2 dont le premier sert à amplifier simultanément des courants à haute fréquence et des courants à basse fréquence. Dans cet exemple, la liaison Z i et V2 pour la haute fréquence est réali sée, comme dans l'exemple de fig. 12, à l'aide d'une bobine à prise médiane dont les deux moitiés constituent les parties LiL2 de l'inductance. 1J'antenne 1 reçoit les oscilla tions à haute fréquence ;
Dans le circuit d'anode du tube V2 se trouvent deux indue- tances de réaction, l'une, 19, agissant sur la bobine Li L2 dans le but de diminuer l'amor tissement du circuit oscillant Li L;: C., et l'autre, 12, agissant comme dans l'exemple de fig. 9 sur l'inductance 5 pour diminuer l'amortissement du circuit oscillant 5, 6 ;
En outre, ou remarque par les exemples des fig. 10 à 1.7 que dans tous les cas oû le circuit oscillant de liaison est fermé sans l'intermédiaire de la batterie à haute tension (oui d'rrn condensateur shuntant cette der nière) il est possible de relier la grille du second tube, art moyen de son condensateur de liaison, soit d'un côté, soit de l'autre du condensateur d'accord du circuit oscillant de liaison ;
Thermionic tube amplifier The present invention relates to a thermionic tube amplifier, some embodiments of which are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Figs. 1 to. 8 are partial diagrams of some of these embodiments; fig. 9 is a more complete diagram of an embodiment in which two tubes are arranged to simultaneously amplify high frequency currents and low frequency or telephone frequency currents; figs. 10 to 17 are also partial diagrams of some embodiments, and FIG. 18 is a more complete diagram of an embodiment, the practical realization of which can be particularly advantageous.
In the example of fig. 1, the circuit S, seat of the currents to be amplified, transmits potential oscillations to the gate Gi of the tube Vi; this tube Vi is connected to the next tube Vz by means of an oscillating circuit whose inductance has two parts, one, Li, located in the circuit of the anode 11r of vil and the second L2 .interleaved -in the circuit of the gate 92 of V2. The capacitor C completes the oscillating circuit.
It can be assumed that, for high frequency currents, batteries H- and B have only negligible resistance, because if practically this was not the case, it. it would suffice to shunt them by means of a very large capacitor .K;
the inductors Li and L2 therefore form with the capacitor C an oscillating circuit, closed. by the batteries (or the capacitor K) between h and a. The oscillations of potential of the Gi grid produces.
oscillations of the current of the anode .1i, and when the oscillating circuit Li L2 C is tuned to their frequency, the latter put it into oscillations, which has the effect of transmitting to the gate G2 alternating potential differences amplified reproducing those which were applied to Gi. If the resistance of the oscillating circuit is low, it will oscillate all the more intense, and the voltage applied to G2 will be higher. In order to increase this voltage, we can increase L2 by decreasing Li within certain limits.
The example of fig. 2 differs from the previous one only by the fact that the inductors Li and L2 are inductively coupled in order to take advantage of their mutual induction, which has a certain advantage by making it possible to increase the total inductance of the circuit without changing its resistance; In addition, this mutual induction could be made viable, and allow the tuning of the circuit to be adjusted within certain limits.
For example, the coarse adjustment could be done by means of the capacitor C and the fine adjustment by variation of the mutual induction of Li and L2; this variation could be made in practice, for example, by moving a screen of good conductive metal in the vicinity of the inductors.
As each of the inductors Li and L2 has an end whose potential is fixed, one can easily realize that, when the circuit Li L2 C is in oscillation, the variations of potential of the various points of Li are of opposite direction to those points of L2. If Li is therefore smaller than L2, we will be able to find on L2 a point whose os cillations will be appreciably equal and of direction opposite to those of the anode Ai, and we will be able to use it to compensate on the grid Gi l ' effect produced by the oscillations of the potential of Ai thanks to the capacity existing between Ci and Ai.
This compensation which is shown with the example of fis. 3 is carried out using a neutralization capacitor N which must be substantially equal to the anode-gate capacitance of V; and which is connected to point P of inductor L2.
In the example of fis. 4, the inductances Li and L2 are equal, so that the point P, where the potential oscillations are equal and opposite to those of Ai, coincides with the end of L2.
The example of fis. 5 differs from the previous one only in that the capacitor C is fixed, the tuning of the circuit Li L2 C being made by varying the mutual inductance of Li and L2 which are equal and constitute the two parts of a variometer.
In the example of fis. 6, the oscillating circuit also comprises a fixed capacitor, and this tuning is done by varying the inductance which behaves of a part .T @ located in the anode circuit of ji, and of two parts L2, L3 connected in series in the gate circuit of V2; Li and L2 are adjustable and must be kept constantly equal to each other. L3 consists of a variometer with the help of which the tuning of the oscillating circuit is carried out. .
At the fis. 7, C is also fixed; Li L2 La together form a variometer. In order to reduce the effect that the approach of the operator's hand can have on the adjustment, it is advantageous to constitute the moving part of the variometer using Li and L2 because these two parts of the inductance have each one end at a fixed potential ; L3 is then the fixed part of the variometer.
At the fis. 8, the inductance of the oscillating circuit also has three parts Li L_ - L, 3 ; C is adjustable, and Li L2 which are equal are coupled together and allow varying their coupling to achieve fine tuning of the tuning.
The example of fis. 9 shows an application of the fis assembly. 4 to an apparatus in which tubes are used to amplify high frequency currents and low frequency currents simultaneously. In this example, the high-frequency energy comes from the antenna r, the oscillating circuit of which carries the adjustable capacitor 2, the inductor 3, and ends at earth 4; inductance 3 is coupled to inductor 5 which forms with capacitor 6 a secondary circuit transmitting high frequency potential oscillations to gate Ci.
The connection of the tube Vi to the tube Va for the high frequency is carried out using the oscillating circuit of which C is the capacitance and of which the inductance comprises the parts Li and L2 which are equal and each have one end connected to a pole d one of the supply batteries H and B using capacitors 7 and 8 (have a low ùirpedance for high frequency currents.
The high frequency connection of tube Va to tube 1's is similar; the capacitor 9 connects L'i to the + pole of H, and L'2 is connected directly to the + pole of B. N and N 'are neutralization capacitors. Tube 1; 3 has the function of detecting high frequency oscillations; for this purpose, its gate is connected to L'2 in the known manner using the capacitor 10 shunted by the resistor 11.
The anode current of T3, which comprises a high frequency component and low frequency components, passes through the feedback coil 12 intended to act in the manner as in the circuit 5, 6 to decrease its damping; then its high frequency component passes through capacitor 13, while its low frequency component passes through the primary of transformer 14, the secondary of which is also shunted by capacitor 15.
The low frequency os cillations cross inductance 5 which offers them only a low impedance, and act on Gi; they are found amplified in the circuit of the anode Ai, and by means of the transformer 16 are transferred to the grid G2;
they are further amplified by I s and actuate the receiver 17 interposed in the anode circuit so that even strong low-frequency oscillations cannot make the gates 0, and G2 positive, which would be unfavorable to operation both at high frequency that at low frequency, the average potential of Gi and G2 is adjusted below that of the negative end of the filaments F. i and F2 using battery 18. To further reduce the impedance in high frequency path 7, K, 8 to go from Li to L2, we could add. the capacitor 19.
In the examples of fig. 10 to 17, the oscillating link circuit is closed without the intermediary of the supply batteries or the capacitor bypassing them; the parts of the inductance located on either side of the capacitor C being both directly connected to the pole h. drums.
Fig. 10 corresponds in a way to FIG. 4; Li is equal to L2, so that the point P undergoes oscillations of potential equal and opposite to those of Ai; this point is connected to Gi by the neutralization capacitor Ni and to G2 by the connection capacitor 7; resistance B is intended to maintain the average potential of 02 at its normal value.
The example of fig. It is analogous to the previous one; it differs from it by the fact that the gate G2 is connected to the inductor Li instead of being to L2, which does. that it receives oscillations whose direction is opposite to that which they had in the preceding example.
In fig. 12 and 13 which are on the other hand similar to FIGS. 10 and 11, the inductances Li and L2 consist of a single coil having a mid-tap.
In fig. 14, the inductance of the oscillating link circuit comprises three parts Li L2 and La, of which Li and L2 are equal; thanks to Ls, the gate receives oscillations the voltage of which is greater than the voltage existing on In or L2; capacitor N is connected to L2.
Fig. 15 differs from the previous one by the arrangement of the parts Li L2 Ls whose order is changed, and which, on the other hand, are constituted by parts of a single coil.
In fig. 16, Li and L2 are formed by a coil with mid-tap, as in -fig. 12, and thanks to the part Ls, G2 receives higher voltage oscillations than those existing on Li and L2.
In fig. 17, @ Li is smaller than L2, the latter having an intermediate tap for the N capacitor connection.
Fig. 18 is a diagram relating to an amplification with two tubes Yi and V2, the first of which serves to simultaneously amplify high frequency currents and low frequency currents. In this example, the link Z i and V2 for the high frequency is made, as in the example of FIG. 12, using a mid-tap coil, the two halves of which constitute the Li L2 parts of the inductor. 1Antenna 1 receives high frequency oscillations;
its circuit, which wedges the adjustable capacitor 2, the inductor 3, and ends in Li to the earth, is coupled to the inductor 5 constituting with the capacitor 6 the oscillating circuit of. grid of the first tube Vi; by means of the winking bone circuit Li L2 C, the high frequency oscillations amplified by Vi are transmitted in the manner indicated above to the grid of the tube 1'2 which detects them.
In the anode circuit of tube V2 there are two reaction inductances, one, 19, acting on coil Li L2 in order to decrease the damping of the oscillating circuit Li L ;: C., < I> and the other, 12, acting as in the example of fig. 9 on inductor 5 to decrease the damping of the oscillating circuit 5, 6;
capacitor 1a 'bypassing the primary of transformer 14 passes the high frequency component of the anode current of 1'2, and its low frequency components pass through said primary; the resulting low-frequency voltage at the secondary, which is also shunted by a capacitor 15, is applied to Gi via the inductance 5 which offers only a negligible impedance to low-frequency currents.
The low frequency oscillations amplified by the tube Vi finally act on the receiver 17 which is shunted by the capacitor 20 which must have a low impedance for the currents to. high frequency.
It can be seen from these examples that the arrangement of the oscillating link circuit can be varied infinitely while remaining within the scope of the present invention.
In practice, it will be advantageous, when the amplifier is intended to operate for a wide range of wavelengths, to constitute the inductances by interchangeable coils, for example, with plugs; the same coil may have several sections each constituting one of the mentioned parts of the inductor.
In all embodiments such as those of FIGS. 1 to 9, in which one of the parts of the inductance is placed in the grid circuit of the second tube, if this second tube is to act as a detector, either the usual capacitor assembly can be used to carry out this detection shunted, or of the assembly, also known, in which the gate circuit of the detector tube comprises a high inductance shunted by a capacitor so as to present a high impedance to low frequency currents and a low one to high frequency ones.
This arrangement can have notable advantages in particular (eg the case of so-called "superheterodyne" assemblies in which the incident high frequency wave is transformed with the aid of its beats with the wave of a local oscillator. an intermediate frequency wave which is then amplified.
In fact, the frequency transformation is done by detecting said beats, and if the detection is carried out by inserting in the gate circuit of the detector tube, instead of the shunted inductance mentioned above, a tuned oscillating circuit. on the intermediate frequency, conditions are particularly favorable for the detection of said beats.
In these same embodiments, where the gate circuit of the second tube has an inductor, it may "be advantageous, in order to avoid the possibility of short-circuiting the anode battery H through the capacitor C when that It is adjustable, to constitute the latter by means of a fixed capacitor of high capacity and with good insulation, in series with an adjustable capacitor.
In addition, or remark by the examples of fig. 10 to 1.7 that in all cases where the oscillating link circuit is closed without the intermediary of the high voltage battery (yes of a capacitor shunting this last) it is possible to connect the grid of the second tube, medium art of its link capacitor, either on one side or the other of the tuning capacitor of the oscillating link circuit;
as by passing from one to the other case we reverse the direction of the oscillations received by this grid, ort see that we can always choose the direction of the current in the anode circuit of the detector tube in the way that we can use an electrostatic reaction by connecting an adjustable capacitor between the grid of the first tube of the apparatus and the anode of the detector tube, an impedance possibly being interposed in the anode circuit of the detector tube to obtain on this anode oscillations of potential of the phase most suitable for this reaction.
