(fig.

In the embodiment shown, there is provided a casing 15 for the operating members of the feeding and folding mechanisms of the. machine with flat cover. The interior space of the cash register is divided into two compartments, one of which, 16, encloses a supply packet of inscription strips, and the other, 17, serves to store the inscription strip serving as a recording piece. checkout; the two parts are separated by a partition 18 which is fixed vertically on the bottom 19 which forms a support for the recording tape and which is provided with suitable means for removing the. my china this stored tape.
The end wall 20 is articulated on the bottom as indicated in fig. 1 and can be folded down on the outside. bottom as indicated in phantom to allow convenient access to compartment 16 and the internal mechanism of the. machine.
Tie rods, as shown in fig. 1, little wind connect the opposite side walls to brace them and keep them in position. Above the compartment .du in front of the machine, a plate or writing table 21 is covered by a cover 22 hinged along one of its longitudinal edges to the side wall of the. checkout. As seen in fig. 1 and 4, this hinged cover is provided with a window through which the upper band is exposed in position: suitable for allowing the writing to be carried over.
The plate 21 and the cover 22 are slightly spaced from each other to form a guide for the inscription bands and the copying sheets arranged between them, as seen in FIG. 8. The rear cover 23 which covers the compartment 17 is hinged along one of. its longitudinal edges to. the side wall of the. checkout. The two covers leave between them a slot which is covered by a part 24 forming a support for the pads 27 of the feed roller 26.
These net cushions are mounted in a spring-loaded holder to allow the roller elastic up and down movement. As shown in, fig. 9, a rust worm 24a is provided to secure the roll holder? .1 in the operating position and to rust it against unauthorized manipulation.
We will observe. furthermore that the rear edge of the support 24 covers the cover 23 so that the locking of this support also prevents unauthorized access to the storage compartment 17 for the recording tape. A feed shaft 28 is mounted in the side walls of the. body, a certain distance under the upper pressure feed roller 26 and is provided with an external maneuvering crank 29:
this shaft carries suitably spaced feed rollers or discs 30, the peripheral surfaces of which are preferably rough in order to obtain, cooperating with the pressure roller 26, the driving of the inscription bands. A removable stop 31 is placed on the che min of the crank 29 so as to limit the movement of the latter to. a full turn; this stop is pushed by a spring clans the path of the crank.
As can be seen from fi-. 5, a latch 32 maintains in its operating position the support 2-1 of the roller 26, so that the roller presses against the discs 30 to enter the inscription bands in the jaws thus formed., The springs of the bearings. 27 thus being kept compressed. The latch can be released by means of a spring loaded pressure button 33 mounted on a plate 34 which carries the latch.
The button 33 carries a protrusion 34a to cooperate with the spring loaded rod of a latch 35 which engages in a notch of a threading pin 36 spring mounted therein. one of the disks 30. This pin is arranged to protrude when the latch 35 is pushed in a disengaged position, and it then constitutes an or gane allowing the initial alignment of the inscription bands when they are placed. in the machine.
This is done by pulling the bands and threading them through their alignment holes on this pin 36; the latter is then automatically retracted by the roller 26 when it is lowered into the operating position.
As seen in fig. 5, each of the discs 30 is provided with a heel protruding from the lateral face of the disc and having a driving face located near the drive periphery of the disc, that is to say out of the way. alignment with the strip alignment holes @.
The purpose of this arrangement is to bring the printed forms to be filled in the various inscription strips automatically in longitudinal alignment with each other during their feeding movement which will be. described below.
In order to necessarily bring one of the recording tapes into the compact folded position in the storage compartment, 17, one. has provided a mechanism comprising here a disc 38 mounted on the shaft 28 between the two feed discs 30. The periphery of this disc 38 is circular, but of a slightly smaller diameter than that of the feed discs 30. so as to support the strip between the discs 30, but without cooperating with the upper pressure roller 26. so as not to exert a substantial force on the strips for their forward progression.
A folding finger 39 with projection 40 is pivotally mounted on the disc 38 and is pushed to sail forward by a spring 41. This finger is also provided with a pin 42 passing through a slot in the disc and resting on the control ramp of a cam-shaped part 43 fixed to the body, for example under the plate 21 (FIG. 1); this part comprises an inclined control ramp 44 and a surface 45 concentric with the axis 28 of the rotating discs to cooperate with the pin 42.
The rear end of the platen 21 is curved downward as at 46, beneath the pressure roller 26 and near the peripheries of the feed discs 30 and the folding disc 38, while the end front of the cover 23 forms a., knife 47 which penetrates under the support. 24 of the roller 26 at a point next to it and which is placed at a low:
distance above the curved portion 46 of the turntable, so as to provide a passage for the recorded tape to be deposited. A guide plate 48 carrying this knife and curved downwards, has a slot 49 through which the folding finger can protrude into the operating position to engage with the recording tape.
The rear parai of the support 24 comes up to the on the upper face: of the cover 23, forming a. sharp or tear-off edge 50 which can be used to aid in separating the sheets at the ends of the writing strips which have exited on the cover 23.
At the front end of the machine is arranged a frame 51 pivoting on the body and carrying spaced guides 52, 53 and 54 for the inscription bands; these mistletoes are mounted between the side plates of the frame, which are braced by tie-rods 55.
These can also be used to direct the <B> to </B> inscription strips from the supply package to the guides. This frame 51 can be raised by foot upwards, to the position shown in phantom (Fig. 1) to allow easy threading of the inscription bands when loading the machine. Some of the guides such as 53 and 54 may be in the form of hollow tubes to constitute magazines for copying tape or carbon paper rolls indicated by C in the sin.
In this case, each magazine is pierced with a longitudinal slot 56 through it. where the copying tape extends between the adjacent fa ces of the advancing recording tapes. The recording tape goes straight through. on the magazine slot by coming into contact with the carbon strip so as to clamp it against the edge of the slot and thus prevent it from accidentally advancing during. the. progression of the inscription bands. Each copying strip is thus firmly held flat in its operating position by the advancing movement of the writing strips.
The guides of the bands forming a magazine for co-ordinating bands are carried by the side plates (-lu frame 51, one of which can be split opposite each magazine as at 56, 1. (fig. 13) to let the protruding ends of the copying sheets C when they jump loaded into their magazines.
As seen in fig. 1, a roller 57 for guiding and positioning the inscription bands extends transversely to the front end of the supply compartment and a slight spring with the pressure plate fixed by its lower end to the body , and in the form of. upper end evening fork to receive the roller 57, tilts inwards, at its upper part (@ - rieuie,
moving away from the wall of the body so as to press against the edges of the registration bands and to guide them into a suitable position on the guides 52, 53 and 51, towards the. platinum? l. This finger or presser spring 58 thus also performs a lateral alignment of the inscription bands between them by oissant on their edges.
The supply package 59 shown in fig. 1 and 1.1 is arranged to be able to be accommodated in the supply compartment 16 of the ma chine. This package. supply, in the form shown, comprises inscription bands in triplicate '60, 61. and 62 re folded in a zigzag or fan.
Each of the bands is broken in a transverse fold or otherwise distorted or weakened, such as at 63. so that the. band tends to: bend evenly along this line; these deformations of one or more of the bands for folding. may have perforations to facilitate detachment (the sheets; these deformations or folds divide each of the strips into a series of attached sheets 6 () a, 61a, 6? a, each of them bearing one or more formulas with blanks in rem fold printed or otherwise affixed.
Each sheet is provided with alignment holes 64, preferably disposed at or near the front end of each sheet printed at. fill so as to bring them in a determined position relative to each other. These holes are arranged in series in the. strip, each series being placed in each strip for alignment with the jaws between the corresponding feed disc and the pressure roller.
Each sheet is shown as having a single printed form with blanks to be filled in, but if the customer wants two or more, an additional alignment hole can be provided. The length occupied by each printed form fi. to fill can be called sheet to, formula to distinguish it from sheets f; 0; ', 6] a or 6-) a.
One or more registration ban des can be used to be intended for. be filed: as a file, for example here the. strip 60, after an inscription ç has been made, in the form of a compact package 65 re folded in rig-za.g or in a screen, like my very fig. 1, and which can be kept in the file compartment <B> 17 </B> of the cash register.
To effect this folding, the web is specially formed to cooperate with the folding mechanism of the machine and is shown in detail in fig. 1 (). As shown, the two-fold sheets 60a two have at their front end or each taken from it a hole 66, the various holes 66 being placed in series along the strip and at a certain distance from the alignment holes 64.
These holes 66 are arranged to cooperate with the folding finger 39 which is to direct the strip in the folded up storage formation as will be seen in detail below. Your holes 6G are preferably formed: in two-by-two sheets during the printing of the fill-in forms on the web 60, but of course they can be made at any other time. These holes on the two-by-two leaflets occupy a defined position on the corresponding leaflets, preferably at their anterior ends and in line transversely with the alignment holes 64.
The other sheets can also, but need not, have holes corresponding to holes 66 and formed in the same way; but these holes on these other sheets remain inactive in the operation of the machine described; they could, however, be used for the filing of several recording tapes if desired. Alignment holes 64 can also be drilled during printing.
The operation of the machine will be, in the example shown, briefly explained as follows: The inscription bands having been passed over the guides and aligned longitudinally on the plate, as already indicated, are gripped at their front part in the jaws discs 30 and pressure roller 26. When the feed discs rotate, the bands are therefore pushed forward.
The rotation of the discs being limited to one revolution - at each feed cycle through the stopper 31, the recording tapes are brought forward approximately the length of the formula sheets to be filled; the positive feed stroke is sufficient to effect a greater advance movement, but before the discs are stopped, the holes drilled in the bands come in front of the disc jaws and the roller so as to suspend the feed action before stopping the discs.
If it happens that one or more of the bands take a slight delay in relation to the others, their feeding movement will continue after stopping the others, so as to bring all the bands and their printed forms in longitudinal alignment. correct, that is, their correct registration to obtain a correct copy of the entry on all forms.
Preferably, the lateral heels 37 grip the bands when the crank is in contact with the stop; on the next feed cycle the heels -37 grip the bands out of alignment of the holes 34 to tighten the bands against the pressure roller and initiate the feed action when the holes have next been worn beyond the jaws, it continued through the discs as described above. It will be understood that the transverse deformations or folds 63 are of such a nature that they do not interfere with the gripping of the bands by the feed discs or the longitudinal alignment of the bands. .
When a write has been made, a turn is given to the disks, which brings all the write tapes forward; the upper two pass above the knife 47 and below the separation edge 50 of the cover 23, and they can be separated by pulling them transversely to the cutting edge 50. If the strips are perforated, the detachment is facilitated and gives a clean separation; detachment can even be effected exclusively by means of the perforations. One of the sheets may be issued to the purchaser, while the other may be held for registration; the two sheets can be easily bundled by means of the openings 64.
When the machine is loaded, the front end of the upper bands is placed on the knife 47, so that the lower band is entered from below so as to pass into the space between the guide plate 48 and the lower edge of the cutter. la, plate 21. This position of the bands is maintained during all the successive operations of the machine.
During the band feeding phase, the folding disc 38 rotates from the position shown in fig. 1 in which the folding finger is, despite the spring 41 which tends to push it forward, held in the retracted position by the engagement of the pin 42 with the concentric portion of the cam 43.
As the advance continues, the finger passes beyond this part of the cam in the position shown -fig. 3, and is projected forward by the spring, projecting so as to engage in the opening 66 of the inscribed sheet to be stored as shown in fig. 1; this occurs after the end 40 of the finger has passed beyond it. of the roller 26 and of the neck 47, so as to avoid these obstacles.
Assuming that a hole 66 is in position to receive the finger, the continuation of the feed movement after the. registration strip 60 has been hooked by the finger, has the consequence of pulling the strip imperatively to direct it transversely first to the feed movement, then in the opposite direction thereto, so as to place this part of the belt in the storage position below the feed rollers. In this way, all available storage space is used, so that the length of the machine box can be reduced.
The folding finger in its retrograde movement at the lower part of the dis that performs a folding or doubling of the strip on itself, and, when the folded part has arrived at its correct place for depositing on the bundle of storage 6: 5, the finger is released from the strip and the strip lands on the package. This release is effected, in the example shown; by means of the pin 42 arriving on the inclined ramp 44 of the cam.
It will be observed that the folding finger catches the strip close to the fold or the transverse deformation 63, but that the folding or doubling of the strip and its retrograde movement in the deposition position can take place independently of the deformation. : these, however, combine to place the strip in a uniform and: compact manner in the position of deposit in bundle. The periphery of the disc 38 supports the tape by cooperating effectively with the finger. folding to carry out the folding and the deposit.
When a fold of the strip has been carried out and the corresponding strip part has been deposited as described, the next phase of carrying out is done in the way already described, but then the folding finger no longer hooks there. . part of the strip or the next sheet and then that the latter no longer has holes to receive the finger; as a result, this sheet is pushed against the guide 48 towards the rear of the compartment 1.7 so as to form the fold at the opposite or rear end of the package. The deformation or transverse fold 66 then allows;) the strip to fall flat in the correct position.
It can therefore be seen that the registration strip to be stored is placed in a compact package folded up in a screen in the compartment where it is protected from any unauthorized access and from where it can be lifted when the box is open after unlocking. .
As a result of the fact that the inscription strip provided for the file is provided with holes only: on the two-by-two sheets, the action of the folding mechanism is selectively effected to hang only these sheets, the others being automatically rejected.
Also, as the parts of the strip have a tendency to fold in the same direction around the line of weakening or deformation, they are automatically chosen by the finger 39 so that the folding or doubling always takes place according to the tendency of the fold and thus the web is deposited in a bundle 65 in a regular and uniform fashion.
We will observe. that this selection is always carried out in the same way regardless of the part of the strip which entered the rolls first: from feed to loading of the machine; if the first sheet that passes the feed rollers after loading has a folding hole, it is automatically. chosen by finger 39 and it is rejected on the contrary if it does not present a hole.
Therefore, it is not necessary to phase match or synchronize the tape with the feed mechanism when loading the. machine.
In the variant shown in fig. 15 to <B><U>'</U> </B> 1, above the compartment 16 is provided a shelf 71 articulated as in 72 to a rod 73 extending between the side walls of the machine. ; suitable tabs 71 extend from the side walls inwardly to provide supports for this tablet when lowered into position for writing. This shelf 71 is pierced with suitable windows 75 to allow the feed mechanism to extend upwardly. through the shelf to come up against the leaves resting on it.
A ratchet wheel 76 is wedged on the shaft 28 and arranged to cooperate with a spring-loaded pawl 7 7 responsible for preventing reverse rotation of the shaft. A lock 78 which can be opened by a key 79 comprises a latch 80 which can be placed in the path of the plate 34 to prevent the withdrawal of the latch 32.
The supply of paper strips 59 is in the form of a bundle in which a number of strips which correspond to the number of writing copies desired are superimposed in register and folded in a zigzag pattern or one screened. in the others. Tapes arriving from the packet are carried from the tablet to write to the feed mechanism. At the point where they pass over the tablet, carbon sheets 81 are interposed between the bands to copy the writing of the upper band to those below.
As shown, a box 82 on one of the side walls is set back as at 83 to enclose a roll of copying tapes; this roll may consist of several coping tapes rolled together to make multiple copies of the original writing.
A second flat cover 8.1 is hinged at 85, so as to be able to oscillate and be beaten again on the tablet 71. after the inscription bands and the carbon sheets have been deposited thereon. This second cover is cut along a window 86 in order to expose the sheets or printed forms to be filled with the upper strip to allow the entries to be made therein. A latch 87, pivotally mounted at 88 on the cover 84, and provided with a notch 89 which can engage with a spout 90 of the side wall, retains the cover in place; a handle 91 of the lock makes it possible to maneuver it to open and close it and also serves as a counterweight to keep it normally lowered in the closed position.
Means are provided to separate the strips of paper just before they do not smell on the writing tablet 71; in the example shown, rods 9 ?, 96 and 94 extend between the side walls to form passages between them for receiving the bands; on these rods, for example on <B> 93 </B> and 94, are articulated guide strips 95: and 96, each of which extends beyond the rod and guides the strip which rests on it up to above the next rod.
The flat cover 84 carries on its lower surface a leaf spring 97 responsible for pressing downward on the superimposed bands just before they pass over the writing tablet 71, so as to. to cause a slight tension of the sheets, and the flat guide sipes 95 and 96 are of such length and position as to keep the different webs separated up to the point opposite the re-spout 97; this then exerts an equal and independent pressure on each band.
The bottom wall of the cover 84 is also provided with side ribs 98 disposed to press the carbon sheets against the tablet 71 beyond the side edges of the inscription bands.
The machine is intended in particular for employing inscription bands provided with printed forms with blanks to be filled and with control holes ensuring a determined position in the printed forms, the lateral position of the discs corresponding to the lateral position of these holes. In this way, the rotation of the feed disks will continue to advance the webs until the point of contact between the disks and the roller 26 comes in front of a hole, which stops the movement of the webs. The feed length and control of the belt.
With a mechanism of this kind, means are provided at the head of each printed formula to start the movement of feeding the bands; in the example shown, these means consist of heels 99 projecting inwardly from the faces of the supply discs and arranged to push the strips upwards against the roller 26. The discs 30 have. a circumference slightly greater than the length of the printed formula and the progression, once started with the gauges 99, is continued by the discs 30 as soon as the hole in the strip is passed and until the next hole arrives to stop the web advancement again.
To ensure the registration of formulas at the start, a hooking pin 100 is mounted in a housing of the disc 39 and is automatically projected outwards into the hooking position by a spring <B> 101, </ B > the spindle being placed next to the heel 99 so that, at the same time as the progress is ready to be started with the gauges 99, the spindle 100 is projected outwardly into the holes of the printed forms and in engagement with the roller 26. The spring 101 is of a tension low enough so that the roller 26, under the action of the res spells acting on its ends, maintains the. spindle 100 returned to its housing, that is to say flush with the periphery of the discs 30, so as to be out of the hooking position of the bands.
To keep the pin 100 thus retracted, a circular cam 102 is used, concentric with the disks and which acts on a pin 103 fixed to the. spindle 100, this cam being provided with a slot 10.1 to allow the spindle 100 to protrude outside at the start or at the end of an operation for feeding the bands.
Thanks to the spring 101, the spindle 100 is released from its housing whenever the transverse support 24 of the supply roller is lifted so that the supply disk is in the suitable position to allow it to be. the pin 103 to pass through the slot 104; the relative width of the slot 104 with respect to the pin 103 is such that the operating crank cannot be moved when the pin 100 is protruding, due to the engagement of the pin <B> 103 </B> between the walls of the slot 104.
The spindle 100 is intended to aid in the initial registration of the leaflets and, during normal operation, is held back at the initial point by its abutment against the roller 26 and, during the remainder of the cycle. advancement, by the stop of the pin 1013 against the circular walls of the cam 102.
To fold the recording sheets from the deposit strip back into compartment 17, a finger <B> 105 </B> pivoting on the underside of cover 23 is used.
With the. machine described above, the various strips of paper 59: have passed over their guides and above the tablet 71, one by one, and hooked to the. spindle 100. When a strip has been placed on the tablet, its corresponding copying sheet is passed over it transversely, that is to say the tape far enough beyond the edge of the machine to be hooked by the nozzle. 90 and by the latch 8 7 when the cover 84 is lowered.
