Process for the preparation of a derivative of di-p-chloroanilidobenzoehinone. In the main patent, a process was described for the production of a stable, water-soluble derivative of indigo in solid form, from which the dye can be reformed by oxidation and which is valuable for: use in dyeing and printing.
This process consists in converting the leuco indigo into the acid ester of sulfuric acid with the aid of sulfuric anhydride or substances releasing as an esterifying agent, expediently in the presence of a tertiary base, such as dimethyla: niline.
The compound produced by this process is an acidic sulfuric acid ester, probably an enol ester of the leuco indigo, a body that still contains acidic salt-forming groups that make the product soluble in water.
It has now been found that this process is also applicable .auf Di-p-: chloro-anilidobenzoquinone (obtained by the action of 2 mol. P-chloroaniline on 1 mol. Benzoquinone) by removing the leuco compound of this body in the aforementioned manner is converted into the acid ester of sulfuric acid.
Example: 100 g di-p-chlo @ ranilidobenzoquinone are reduced with 100 g hydrosulphite and 220 g sodium hydroxide 30 / a in two liters of hot water. A yellow-green vat is created in which the leuco body is already present. has partially retired. This is completely precipitated with dilute sulfuric acid, filtered off and dried in vacuo.
The completely dry leukocyte thus obtained is placed in a reaction mixture obtained from: 87 -r chlorosulfonic acid and 1000 g dimethylaniline.
After stirring for several hours at normal temperature, the amount of soda (180 g) required for salt formation is added and the dimethylaniline is distilled off with steam. The solution freed from the tertiary base is filtered and: the filtrate is concentrated until most of the ester salt formed separates out on cooling.
This new ester salt is absorbed from a weakly acid bath on wool and develops a yellow color on the fiber.
The new body is permanent both in substance and in solution. The aqueous solution is not changed by alkali, by mineral acid it takes place slowly cold, in the heat faster decomposition of the dissolved ferrous salt.
Oxidizing agents in the presence of acid produce a rapid and quantitative effect when heated gently. Recovery of the dye.
In use, the substance to be dyed, fiber, etc., can be completely or locally impregnated with an aqueous solution of the new ester salt and the color can be developed quickly and smoothly through a suitable oxidation effect.
This derivative of di-p-chlora.nilidoben- zochinon thus allows dyeings with this dye to be produced in the simplest possible way, avoiding the cumbersome nub.
In the example mentioned, the chlorosulfonic acid can generally be replaced by a halosulfonic acid, a salt of a halosulfonic acid (such as, for example, sodium chloride sulfonate), fuming sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid anhydride.
