Une forme d'exécution du dispositif (le soupapes suivant la présente invention est représentée, à titre d'exemple, sur le dessin ci-joint, dans lequel: La fig. 1 est une coupe verticale d'une partie de moteur, à chacun des cylindres clu- quel est appliquée cette forme d'exécution; La fig. 2 est une coupe verticale, à échelle agrandie, de la boîte à soupapes, avec la sou pape d'admission d'air de balayage repré sentée en élévation; La fig. 3 est une coupe verticale de la boîte à soupapes et des soupapes; La fig. 4 est une coupe partielle, mon trant une forme de réalisation de pulvérisa teur, qui est également représentée aux f@g. 3 et 7;

<B> 8 </B> showing the lower part of the fixed hollow rod, fig. 9 being a section along the line IX-IX of FIG. 7, showing the cooling positive for the lower end of said rod, and FIG. 10, a cut parallel to the previous one.
Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows the upper part of a vertical type internal combustion engine whose frame and engine cylinders are established as in the example shown in patent no.109361. As in this example the engine cylinders 15 have a general shape of bottle, i.e. each cylinder comprises a cylindrical bore portion 19, a frustoconical portion 20 above the cylindrical bore portion, and a narrow portion or neck 21, the outer end of this narrow portion or neck being connected to an overhanging casing piece 22, which is arranged to rest on and to be connected to the tubular support piece 14 of the frame.
A piece, forming an envelope, 23 is disposed near the lower end of the piece 22, and this envelope piece 23 is mounted telescopically with respect to a vertical envelope portion 24, integrally with and surrounding the piece. lower end of the cylindrical bore portion 19.
Each narrow part or neck 21 of cylinder dre internally has a shoulder 25, on which is intended to bear a valve box 26, this box comprising near its upper end a re edge 27 directed outwards. This flange 27 is bolted to the cylinder head by bolts 28 (Fig. 3), thus maintaining a purge air supply chamber 29, clamped between the flange 27 and the cylinder head.
The valve box 26 has a lateral inlet port 30, in communication with the air supply chamber 29; this box 26 ends at its lower end with a valve seat 31 for a purge air intake valve 32, which will be described below. The box 26 is provided with a cover 33, on which is fixed a hollow cylindrical rod 34 (FIG. 3), which is preferably placed along the same axis as the valve box. Near its lower end, the box internally has a support or bearing part 35.
The purge air inlet valve 32 surrounds the stem 34 and has a sleeve-shaped extension 36, which can slide into the seat piece 35 and which is mounted in a fluid-tight manner with respect to at the lower end of the rod 34, any suitable gasket packing 37 being used for this purpose.
r1 at its upper end, the sleeve-shaped extension 36 of the scavenging air intake valve is connected to a piece, forming a piston, 38, mounted inside a cylindrical part 39 of the air box. , valves, a spring 40 being placed below this piston 38 and bearing against a shoulder 41. -of the support piece 35. Plungers 43 are connected to the piston 38 and extend above the latter and through openings 44 in cover 33, these plungers comprising: piston parts 45 sealingly fitting into openings 44 to prevent escape of air from the box valve.
The plungers 43 are linked to levers 46, which are actuated by any appropriate mechanism - command key, operating in a determined time relation with respect to the motor and which it is unnecessary to describe and represent in detail. . It will be clearly understood that the purge air intake valve 32 is moved away from its seat as a result of the action of the levers 46, exerting a thrust on the plungers 43 so as to push the piston 38 downwards, in thus compressing the spring 40.
As soon as the levers 46 are free to move in the opposite direction, the spring 40 acts to return the purge air intake valve 32 in the direction ensuring it is closed, the piston 38 producing a damping effect. During this valve closing, so that the support and guide piece of the purge air intake valve can be properly lubricated, a lubricant supply duct, 47, is provided which communicates with an orifice 48 in the guide piece 35.
A sleeve 49 is disposed inside the rod 34, and a valve rod 50 is arranged inside this sleeve 49. The sleeve 49 and the rod 50 are carried by a support part 50 ', connected to the cover 33. The inner sleeve 49 terminates at a point above the lower end of the hollow rod 34, so as to constitute a chamber for a suitable sprayer 51, which will be described in more detail below. The annular space between the rod 50 and the inner sleeve 49 communicates with a chamber 52, which in turn communicates with the liquid fuel supply channel, 52 ', while the annular space between the rod 34 and the sleeve 49 communicates with an air supply channel 53 (FIG. 2).
The liquid fuel is discharged into the annular channel between the valve stem 50 and the inner sleeve 49, and flows downward and through openings 49 'in the pulverizer 51; air is also delivered under pressure into the sprayer through the air supply channel 53 and the annular channel between 34 and 49. Below the sprayer, the hollow rod 34 comprises a vi role 54, provided a valve seat 55, which cooperates with a valve 56 carried by the valve stem 50.
Any suitable gasket packing is disposed around the upper end of the valve stem 50 to prevent leakage, and this valve stem is moved by any suitable operating mechanism, so that the valve can be opened, to prevent leakage. furnace sprayed liquid fuel to the engine cylinder, and be closed, to stop this supply.
The lower part of the valve box 26, subjected to intense heat, is provided with a water cooling chamber, 57, disposed circumferentially and close to the part 31 constituting the seat of the intake valve. sweeping air.
The rod 34 is cooled by water, to prevent possible pyrogenic decomposition of the liquid fuel above the fuel injection valve 56. To this end, this rod 34 comprises a longitudinal channel 58, communicating with a tube 58 ', leading to the lower part of the rod 34 and communicating with a circumferential channel 59 (fig. 7 to 10), the latter channel comprising a diaphragm 60.
Above the circumferential channel 59 is disposed a second circumferential channel, 61, and the latter communicates through an orifice 61 'with the circumferential channel 59, on the side of the diaphragm 60 opposite the discharge end of the tube 58'. . Similarly, the second circumferential channel 61 is provided with a diaphragm 62, the latter diaphragm being arranged between the orifice 61, which connects the circumferential channels, and a discharge orifice 63, to through which preferably passes the tube 58 '.
It will therefore be seen that water enters the supply channel 58 and flows through the tube <B> 58 '</B> to the lower part of the rod 34, that this water passes around the lower circumferential channel 59, then enters through the orifice 61 'into the upper circumferential channel 61, and circulates through this channel-1 in the opposite direction, after which it is discharged through the orifice 63, which communicates with the annular chamber 65, the latter in turn communicating with the discharge channel 66.
The flow directions are indicated by the arrows in fig. 8. This construction ensures the flow of cooling water directly to the lower part of the. rod 34, so as to cool the part of this rod exposed to the heat of combustion. The layout of.
circular channels ensure a continuous forced circulation of cooling water at the lower end of rod 34, without the formation of blind spots with stagnant cooling water. and so that there is cross flow of this -water only in the lower part of this rod. With reference to FIG. 3, it will be seen that the sleeve-shaped extension 36 of the scavenging air intake valve 32 internally has a bush 69, which can slide relative to the rod 34.
The lower and neighboring edges of this sleeve 69 and of the rod 34 are bevelled, at 70 and 71 respectively, so that carbon deposits which could form can easily be detached at the lower end of this sleeve and from rod 34.
In addition to the purge air intake and fuel injection valves, the valve box includes an air intake valve for start-up. 72, comprising a rod 73 extending through an air supply channel 74, this rod being normally pushed upwards by a spring 75 disposed inside the casing 76, for the purpose of to apply the pope 72 on its seat. Pressurized air is brought into the casing 76 by any suitable maneuver, the pressure of this air passing through the valve 72 overcoming the tension of the spring 75, for starting.
A further valve is also provided which is disposed laterally with respect to the purge air intake valve and which serves as a relief or safety valve, as a device for taking indicator diameters, and as a device for decompressing. cylinders when starting the engine. This valve comprises a valve body 78, opening upwards and cooperating with a seat 79, disposed at the lower end of the channel 80. The valve body 78 is carried by a valve stem 81, which extends upwardly through channel 80 into a housing device 82, carried by cover 33, and through a cylinder 83, connected to that housing 82. Housing device 82 includes a chamber 84, communicating with channel 80 and having an upper valve seat 85.
A channel 86 communicates with the chamber 84 below the seat 85, and this channel is arranged to communicate either with the atmosphere, or with an appropriate indicating device. Above the valve seat 85, the housing device 82 comprises a cylindrical part 87, within which is housed a piston 89 carried by the valve stem 81. A larger piston 90, also carried by the valve rod 81, is disposed inside the cylinder 83. A spring 91 bears at its lower end against the upper face of the piston 90 and at its upper end against a part 92, which in turn rests against the threaded hub 93 of a handwheel 94, this threaded hub 93 being engaged with an internal thread 95 at the upper end of cylinder 83.
A channel 96 is provided in the housing device 82 for supplying compressed air in the cylinder 83 below the piston 90.
The device described above functions as a safety valve, of the. <B> following </B> way: excessive pressure from an engine cylinder acts against the underside. exposed to this pressure, of the valve 79 and lifts the latter by overcoming the resistance of the spring 91, thus allowing the pressurized fluid to pass through the channels 80 and 86 to escape. the atmosphere.
When the apparatus is used for raising indicator diagrams, the handwheel 94 is operated so as to lift the rod 81 until the valve body 98, carried by the end of the rod in the. chamber 84 or applied against its seat 85, after which there is free communication between the engine cylinder and the member. controlled by pressure, of the indicator device, via channels 80 and 86.
In order to decompress the cylinders when starting the engine, compressed air can be supplied to the channel 96 to act on the underside of the piston 90, thereby lifting the valve body 78 and allowing decompression of the cylinder via channels 80 and 86, the latter channel communicating with the atmosphere.
The construction of "the spray device" is shown more particularly and in detail in FIGS. 4, 5 and 7, and another embodiment is shown in FIG. 6. The sprayer 51 is made up of several sleeves 100, arranged along the same axis and comprising smooth helical grooves or necks 101. As shown in FIG. 5, the helical grooves or slides are inclined in two directions so that they intersect and define diamond-shaped protrusions 102. When assembled, the sleeves 100 fit exactly against each other. the other so as to cover the grooves or slides, thus forming spray channels.
Below the sleeves 100, the inner surface of the rod 34 converges at 103, and a plug or shutter 104 is applied against the converging inner wall 103; this stopper or obturator is provided with spiral grooves 105 re covered by the wall 103 and which serve as discharge channels for the mixture received from the sleeves 100. A spacer 106 is arranged between the obturator stopper 104 and the sleeves 100 nested one inside the other, this spacer 106 being provided with fins 107 which support the sleeves.
Above the sleeves 100 is disposed a sleeve or spacer 108, the upper part of which is spaced from the valve stem 50, so as to define a chamber 109, communicating with the annular channel between the stem 50 and the sleeve 49, this chamber 109 being pierced with discharge openings 49 'at its lower part, as has already been indicated. Near the sleeves 100, the spacer sleeve 108 is provided with fins 110, which rest on the nested sleeves 100. The upper end of the spacer sleeve 108 comes into contact with another sleeve 111, which s' é extends upwards inside the hollow rod 34 and which comes into contact with a res out 112, bearing against the part 50 '.
The spring 112 acts so as to push the sleeve 111 downwards, this sleeve 111 acting through the intermediary of the spacer sleeve 108 so as to hold the spray sleeves 100 in place and the stopper or plug 104. properly applied to his seat.
By the construction described, it will be seen that the liquid fuel enters through channel 52 ', into chamber 52, and passes downward between valve stem 50 and sleeve 49 into chamber 109, from which it passes through. the openings 49 'in the chamber above the nested spray sleeves 100. The injection air enters the channel 53 and passes down, between the. the interior pa king of the hollow rod 34 and the intermediate sleeve 49, up to the chamber immediately above the nested spray sleeves 100. This air not only serves to entrain the liquid fuel through the channels or grooves of the sleeves nested 100, but also to suck the liquid fuel which has accumulated in the chamber 109 and between the valve stem 50 and the intermediate sleeve 49.
By passing through the intersecting grooves or helical conduits 101, the liquid fuel is very finely divided and mixed with the atomizing air. The spraying operation is further aided by the spiral grooves 105 of the plug or shutter 104, so that the mixture receives a vortex motion immediately before being discharged into a motor cylinder.
With this type of sprayer, it will be understood that the liquid fuel must not pass through channels presenting a complicated path and must come into contact with exposed surfaces, to the shock of air at high speed, so that the air and liquid fuel are intimately mixed: and that the liquid fuel is very finely divided.
Fig. 6 shows another embodiment of a sprayer, 51 ',: oonsistant in superimposed profiled rings 113 and 114 -coin- starting from the openings 115 and 115' offset with respect to each other.
The profiled rings 113 and 114 are supported by a shutter 104 ', in the manner described above with reference to the part 104 of FIG. 4; on the upper ring 113 rests a spacer 116, adapting to its upper part against the lower end of a sleeve 111, as described above; this spacer 116 has openings 49 ", which establish communication between the annular liquid fuel inlet channel, delimited by the valve rod 50 and the intermediate sleeve 49, and the upper part of the sprayer 51 '.
The spacer 116 comprises a lower part 116 ', disposed so as to rest against the upper parts of the edges or wings of the upper profiled ring 113; this spacer 116 also comprises a profiled part 117, comprising in its lower part openings 118, which establish the communieation between the profiled part 117 and the upper profiled ring 113. With this construction, the liquid fuel and the air pass through channels offset from each other and are intimately mixed, after which the mixture passes through grooves in the plug or shutter 104 'and is discharged into an engine cylinder in the same way previously described.
To facilitate the construction of the rod 34, the latter can be made (fig. 7) with a removable lower part, in the form of a bowl, 34 ', screwed onto the rod 34 proper and whose lower end is in further supported by a flange 54 'on the sleeve or ferrule 54. The valve box shown is suitable for use for a motor cylinder of the type shown in Patent No. 109361, this cylinder not having valve ports. no channels or conduits in its cylinder head, all the necessary valves, namely the purge air intake valve, the fuel injection valve, the air intake valve for starting, and the safety, decompression and indicator gauge valve,
being carried by a single valve box device, fitted in the narrow part or neck of a cylinder of this type. In the example shown, the purge air intake valve is arranged so as to discharge an annular column of air, which is directed in such a way that it effectively cooperates in cooling the interior surface. of the, Flared part of the combustion chamber.
Likewise, the arrangement of the cooling of the seat of the purge air intake valve and the disposition of a fixed hollow rod between the sleeve of the purge air intake valve and the injection valve, rod, which is suitably water cooled, provides cooling to the valve seats and avoids the possibility of pyrogenic decomposition of said liquid fuel above the fuel injection valve.
