Le fonctionnement de cette forme de réalisation de la machine est sensiblement le même que celui de la forme de réalisation précédemment décrite, à l'exception que dans cette deuxième forme de réalisation, les têtes porte-fils 21, 2111, à la fin de leur course angulaire correspondant à six pas d'avance ment, placent le premier fil de trame se trouvant sur les têtes dans l'extrémité recourbée des crochets cueilleurs-déchargeurs, après quoi ces crochets prennent le fil de trame à partir des têtes, de sorte qu'une opération de présentation de fil de trame est supprimée par rapport à ce qui a lieu dans la forme de réalisation décrite en premier lieu;

Flat knitting machine. The object of the present invention is a warp knitting machine, rectilinear, characterized by devices for bringing, during the formation of the rows of stitches, a weft yarn in such a position with respect to the warp yarns and needles, that it is inserted between the stitches of needles and stitches of platinum.
It is thus possible to obtain a warp knitted fabric, comprising a base, for example formed by chains, in which continuous weft threads extend from one selvedge to the other over the entire width of the fabric, such that this does not show any appreciable extension in the lateral direction.
The attached drawing boards represent, but by way of example only, two embodiments of the rectilinear chain sorting machine forming the subject of the invention.

Fig. 53 is a schematic view of a fabric produced on the machine shown in Figs. 1 to 51 inclusive; Fig. 54 is a schematic view of a simple fabric, which can be produced on the machine shown in Figs. 1 to 51 by eliminating certain elements of the machine, and which can also be produced on the machine shown in FIG. 52.
With reference to fig. 1 to 4 inclusive, which are general views of the machine, 1 designates the right end frame and the left end frame. These frames are joined together by dirty transverse beams 2, 3, 4, 5 and 138. The beam 2 supports the needle bed or needle bar 6, the work plate 7, a spike bar 8, and their shafts. control 9 and 10. The beam 3 supports the plate bar 11 and its control shafts 12 and 13. The beam 4 carries the bar to, passettes 14 and even control shaft 15.
The beam 5 supports the shuttle guide 16, the chain 17 serving to move the shuttle 18, and also supports the wire guide bars 19 and the picker-unloader hooks 20 and 20a.
The son-carrying heads 21 and 211, are supported by the end bZ, 1tiS 1 and la, and the end frame 1 also supports the mechanism for imparting a reciprocating movement to the bar. needles, 6.
With reference to FIG. 54, which is the view of the simplest form of the fabric, a designates the separate warp threads forming the chains, and b designates continuous weft threads, which run across the width of the fabric from a edge to the other. When the fabric is finished, the various chains are linked together by the weft threads, and these weft threads prevent lateral extension of the fabric.
This fabric can be produced on the machine shown in Figs. 1 to 51, or on the simplest form of machine shown in FIG. 52.
The fabric shown in fig. 53 comprises, in addition to separate warp threads a forming the chains and continuous weft threads b, the longitudinal warp threads c which prevent the longitudinal extension of the fabric, the binding threads d, in number equal to that of the son a and which, each zigzagging from a chain to an adjacent chain, connect them together, each chain being connected to the two adjacent chains located on either side of the chain considered, by two threads d, and the filling or forming threads of the pattern, e.
With reference to fig. <I> 2, </I> 2a, <I> 2 ", 4, </I> 17 and 20, 7 designates the work plate extending substantially over the entire width of the machine. This plate is supported on a fixed bar 22. On this bar 22 are mounted arms 24 having a part forming a stop, which can rotate freely on the bar 22 and are fixed in an adjustable position to the work plate 7. On this work plate are mounted plates 25, comprising a threaded lug 26, and through this lug passes an adjusting screw 27, which presses against the stop of 24. These arms 24 comprise a slide for the passage of a tightening screw 28.
This work plate 7 can be rotated around the bar 22 When there is no fabric in the machine, so as to release the needle bar 6 and to allow access to the needles for cleaning and to straighten them out when necessary.
Parallel to the fixed bar 22 is placed another bar 23. These two bars are supported at their ends by the end frames and, at a distance, by consoles 29 mounted on the main transverse beam 2.
The needle bar or needle bed 6 has an angular or angle section, as shown in FIG. 4, and the needles 30 are fixed to the vertical wing of this bar in the usual way.
On the bars 22 and 23 are mounted sliders 31. Each slider has a vertical bearing 32, through which passes the guide pin 33, fixed to the needle bar 6. This construction keeps the needle bar 6 in the needle. lateral direction, but allows it to accommodate vertical movement, and the sliders and needle bar can move freely across the width of the machine.
From the needle bar 6 is suspended a series of U-shaped console chairs, 34, which have a slide to receive a bolt 35. On the bolt, between the arms of the console, is arranged a sleeve 36. By This construction, the position of the bolt and the sleeve on the console can be adjusted.
The shaft 9 is an oscillating shaft and is journaled in bearings 37 on the beam 2 and on the main frame; to this shaft 9 are fixed arms 38, having the shape of a fork at their outer end to come into engagement with the slides 39 on the sleeves 36. When the shaft 9 oscillates, the needle bar 6 is raised and lowered.
Ila needle bar 6 receives limited longitudinal movement as well as vertical movement. This longitudinal movement communicates a back and forth movement to the needles when they are lifted to form the loops of the various chains.

When the shaft 10 oscillates, the tips 75 enter the gaps between the needles. and are withdrawn at the same time as the other mechanisms of the machine.
The platen bar 11 receives, from the picker-unloader hooks 20, 20a, a weft yarn, which has been picked up by them from the yarn-carrying heads, and this platen bar places the yarn in the position suitable for knitting spot. The platen bar 11 also acts as a comb, to comb the threads, so that loops can be formed around these threads.
The platen bar 11 comprises a series of platens having a tooth-shaped portion 82; these plates pass in the intervals between the needles. The platen bar may also carry a valve protection bar, as shown at 213 (Fig. 52a), to prevent the needle valves from closing too violently when the needle bar descends. The plates are assembled in sections, and the sections are rigidly fixed to the plate bar, as shown in fig. 4 and 11, by bolts or other means of attachment, and can be quickly removed when necessary.
The plates have, above this tooth, a notch 83, and, above this notch, a pointed projection; they collect the yarn from the picker-unloader hooks 20, 20a. The platen bar 11 also receives forward and backward movement and vertical movement. Behind the plate bar are arranged pins 84, which slide in horizontal bearings 85 in supports 86, comprising vertical bearings 87, which slide on vertical guide posts 88 fixed to the beam 3.
A vertical movement is communicated to the support 86 by arms 89 fixed to the oscillating shaft 12 by means of connecting rods 90, and a horizontal movement is communicated to the plate bar 11 by an arm 91, fixed to the shaft. oscillating 13, via the connecting rods 92 (FIG. 4).
The picker-unloader hooks 20, 20a, arranged one at each end of the machine, are constructed and operate as follows: To the beam 5 are fixed consoles 93 and at the ends of these consoles, at 94, are articulated levers 95 bearing the cro chets. One of the arms of each lever receives a displacement, and a hook is fixed in an adjustable position to this arm, as shown in FIGS. 9 and 11.
Each pick-up-unloader hook is curved at its outer end so as to pick up a thread on the thread-carrying heads and, as shown in fig. 52a, can have a finger pointing forward, 20u, to grab the thread, in the event that the latter should come out of this hook.
The other arm of each lever 95 has an adjustable position roller 96, which engages a lifting plate 97 on a pin 98, mounted in an adjustable position on a square section bar 99, fixed in an adjustable position to the shaft. plate bar 11, (fig. 11). When the platen bar is pulled back so that the plate 97 is below the roller 96 and when a vertical movement is imparted to the platen bar, the plate 97 will push the roller back and rotate the roller, .
carrying the picker-unloader hook, around its pivot, by moving the curved end of this hook, as well as the weft thread carried by the latter, in the path of the notched plates of the plate bar 11. Threads guide can be provided, as shown at 205 and 206 (Figs. 52 and 52a), to prevent the weft threads from moving when the hooks descend. Each picker-unloader hook is angled at 100 so as to allow the wire, gripped by the plates of the plate bar, to pass beyond. hooks and their sinks.
Pickers can be provided on the ends of the platen bar, as shown at 212 (Fig. 52), to pick up the weft threads from the picker-unloader hooks; when the platen bar moves forward, the roller 96 is released and the pick-unload hook returns to its normal position. Arms 101 mounted on the pivots 94 come into contact with stop screws 102 on the frame of the machine.
In order to place the weft threads in the knitted fabric without affecting the speed of the machine, means are provided for carrying several threads at the same time. These threads run from side to side of the machine when in place on the thread heads, and the pick-unload hooks pick up one thread after another in the series as you go. as the knitting operation advances.
At one end of the machine is disposed a son-carrying head 21, and at the other end a son-carrying head 21a. Each head is formed, as shown in Figs. 7 and 11, of three discs. Two of these discs 103 have notches at 103a, and the middle disc 104 is of a smaller diameter than that of the other discs as shown.
This construction forms notches for the weft threads, and the protrusions between the notches form pegs, around which the threads are passed by the shuttle 18. A guard finger 105, fixed to the beam 5, extends into the groove. annular in each thread holder head. This finger keeps the threads in the head, except for the one that will be picked up by the picker-unloader hooks.
The thread-carrying discs are mounted on a small shaft 106 journalled in a bearing 107, fixed in an adjustable position to the end frame by bolts 108. On the shaft 106 is fixed a stop wheel 109, comprising a series of notches in part of its periphery. This wheel has an extended hub 110, on which are fixed two ratchet wheels 111 and 112. The ratchet wheel 111 has 12 teeth and an extended, non-toothed surface 113 at its periphery. The wheel 112 has a single tooth 114 and a non-toothed surface 115, which is larger than the surface 113.
The shuttle 18, to place the weft threads on the heads 21, 21a at either end of the machine, is reciprocally moved across the full width of the machine on its guide or rail support 16 by chain 17. This chain 17 passes around, and is supported at its ends by chain wheels 169 and 170, and at an intermediate point of its length by brackets 171, provided with guides 172; these consoles are mounted on beam 5 (fig. 4, 21 and 22).
In the example shown, the chain wheel 169 is the driven wheel and is mounted on an adjustable position pin 173 on a console 174, fixed on the end frame 1. The chain wheel 169 is fixed on the hub d 'a toothed wheel 175, in engagement with a toothed wheel 176 on a transverse shaft 177. At one end of this shaft is fixed a conical toothed wheel 178, in engagement with a pinion 179 on a vertical shaft 180, mounted in bearings <B> 181 </B> on the end frame, emitted 1.
On the lower end of the shaft 180 is fixed a bevel gear 182, meshing with a bevel gear 183, fixed on the main shaft 135.
On one of the links of the chain 17 is fixed: Him arm 18-1 (fig. 10 and 10a). This arm comprises a slide at 185, to receive a slide 186, pivotally mounted on an aie 187 projecting on the rear face of the shuttle 18. The chain communicates a movement to the shuttle by means of this connection, and the slide 185 allows full freedom of movement for the slide 186 as the arm 184 passes around the chain wheels at either end of the machine.
Consequently, during the continuous movement of the chain in the same direction, the shuttle receives a back and forth movement.
The shuttle 18 (see particularly the wires 8, 9 and 9a) comprises a body 188, provided with ribs fitting in longitudinal slides to the upper part and to the lower part of the rail or guide 16. To the body 188 of the shuttle is suspended an arm 189, comprising a segment-shaped extension 190, provided with a series of tubes 191, through which pass the threads which are placed on the thread-carrying heads by the na vette. The arm 189 has a slide at 192, to allow the wires to pass through their respective tubes from their spools, which are placed at any convenient point; these coils are not shown in the drawings.
The tubes 191 of the shuttle are spaced from one another so as to penetrate into the intervals between the pins of the thread-carrying heads, as shown in FIG. 8, and the threads are carried from one head to the other (six threads in this case) by the shuttle.
The heads are moved intermittently, one notch at a time, to allow the picker-unloader hooks to remove a single wire and place it in a position where it can be gripped by the platen bar 11 and carried to the knitting spot. The machine is constructed in such a way that six threads can be carried by the shuttle during a single movement across the machine and be placed on the heads.
As a result, as the shuttle moves slowly across the machine back and forth, the pick-unload hooks can move quickly to pick up one wire at a time without reducing the speed of the machine. knitting machine.
With reference to fg. 5 and 7, the plate bar 11 comprises a bracket in the form of an angle iron 116, which is connected by a connecting rod 117 to an arm 118 on a toothed sector 119, pivoted at 120 on a bracket mounted on the main frame. The connections are made key so that we can adjust the position of the parts, if desired. The toothed sector meshes with a pinion 121, mounted idle on the shaft 106 (fig. 7). On the hub of this pin 121 is fixed a ring 122, comprising an arm 123 with an elongated slide 124 (FIG. 5a). In this slide is mounted the pivot pin 125 for a pawl 126. This pawl engages with the single-tooth wheel 112.
This mechanism rotates the thread holder head 120 degrees to tension the threads and bring them into a position where they can be picked up by the selector unloading hooks. This mechanism is repeated exactly at the opposite end of the machine. The two son-carrying heads 21 and 21a are controlled by the bar 11, to which their mechanisms are connected.
On the platen bar 11, near the console 116, is arranged a plate 127 having a rounded projection, which comes into contact with an arm 128 on a lever 129 pivoted at 130 on an extension of the bearing 107. On the small arm of this lever is pivoted a pawl 13l., which engages with the teeth of the ratchet wheel 111. These members have an adjustable position.
As the platen bar 11 moves backward, the protrusion hits the arm 128 and advances the wheel 111 one tooth, rotating the thread head 21 so as to bring new thread into the path of the hooks. pickers-unloaders. Head 2111, located at the opposite end of the machine, is moved by its control mechanism one tooth at a time, in synchronism with first head 21.
On an arm 13û of the bearing 107 (FIG. 5b) is articulated a pawl 133, comprising a pin 134, in the form of! / At its end, intended to engage with the stop wheel 109 and to keep the head in position. position after its movement, so that the threads will always be kept parallel to the needle bed.
135 is the main shaft of the machine and is journaled in a bearing 136 of each end frame; a bearing 137 is provided, equidistant from the ends, this bearing being supported by a longitudinal beam 138 which, with the other beams, connects the two end frames to each other.
On this main shaft 135 are arranged the cams which actuate the various mechanisms mentioned above. The tree 135

The operation of the loom is as follows With reference to FIGS. 28 to 42, which represent the simplest mode of operation of the machine, and in fig. 54, which represents a fabric formed according to this mode of operation, comprising a series of independent chains formed by the warp threads and weft threads, the threads forming the independent chains of stitches are placed such that the bar of The needles come into engagement with the threads and, with the guide bar and the spike bar, form a series of stitches. A key series of weft threads b are pulled through the machine by the shuttle, from one thread-carrying head to the other, and are passed around the pegs of these heads.
The pick-and-dump hooks remove a weft yarn from these heads, and the platen bar takes the yarn from these hooks and carries it to the place of knitting on the top edge of the plate. job.
In order to bring the weft yarns one at a time to the picker-unloader hooks, the yarn-carrying heads are moved intermittently 1 / 1s of revolution at a time in the example shown, by feeding a yarn of weft in position during 1st single row knitting. During six of these intermittent movements, the shuttle passed through the machine from one head to the other, and deposited six weft threads on both heads.
Fig. 28 is a schematic rear elevational view showing the shuttle starting its motion across the machine from the left side, dragging six weft threads b with it from the thread carrier head. As the shuttle moves slowly across the machine (fig. 29-35), the knitting mechanism makes six rows. When the shuttle is in the position shown in FIG. 31, a row has been made. When the shuttle is in the position shown in FIG. 32, the second row has been made, and so on until the shuttle reaches the opposite end of the machine, as shown in fig. 35 and 36.
It should be noted that the threads are twisted and, in order to stretch them, the thread-carrying head 21a is rotated by six points, as shown in FIG. 37. The threads are then stretched, and the shuttle is ready to return to the opposite side of the machine, as shown in figs. 38 and 39.
The shuttle moves forward as the six rows are made, and when the shuttle reaches the left side, as shown in fig. 40, the head 21 is rotated by six points to the position shown in FIG. 41, bringing the wires into a parallel position, as shown in this figure. The shuttle then returns in the opposite direction, as shown in FIG. 42, and the operation is repeated. As a result, each yarn is brought into proper alignment so that the pick-and-unload hooks can remove a single yarn and place it in position at the knitting spot.
By this construction, the speed of the machine can be increased, and the needle set will however have sufficient time to make the knitting.
By this method, the simplest form of fabric can be made with a weft thread extending from selvedge to selvedge; by simply adding the additional yarns, namely the separate warp yarns c, the binding yarns d and the filling or forming yarns of design e, it is possible to produce a fabric as shown in FIG. 53.
With reference to fig. 4 and 43 to 48, the plates 82 of the plate bar 11 are shown in engagement with a weft yarn b, picked up by the hooks 20 and 201, from the yarn-carrying heads 21, 211, and carrying the same. ci forward to the rear face of the <I> cd </I> and e threads, while the teeth protrude through the gaps between the threads, as shown in fig. 44 and 49. Prior to this movement, the bars 59 of the group of thread guide bars 19 have been moved by the Jacquard mechanism in the ordinary manner.
The platen bar then descends, combing the threads and bringing them into position to be intertwined with the knitted row, as shown in fig. 45 and 50. The teeth remain in position and keep the loops down, while the needles are lifted behind the weft threads b and the other threads c d e, as shown in fig. 4. The guides 57 of the guide bar are then moved back and pass through the gaps between the threads c <I> key </I> and the needles 80, as shown in figs. 46 and 51.
The yarns <I> a </I> hold the weft yarns <I> b </I> and all the other yarns in position against the needle seal while the teeth of the platen bar 11 are removed, as shown in fig. 47. The needle bar 6 then receives a displacement movement, (one interval in the example shown, after which the loops come back, forming loops of the threads a around the needles.
At the same time, the points 75 of the point bar 8 move forward under the last row knitted and support that row as the needle bar descends, the needles passing in front of the points 75, which knock down the previous row. formed on the needles, in the ordinary manner, as shown in. fig. 48. The son-carrying head remains stationary, as shown in FIGS. 43, 44, 45, and 46, as the teeth of the platen bar move forward and down.
When the teeth of the platen bar move backwards, the head moves by one tooth to come into the position shown in FIG. 47, placing the next weft thread in the bent ends of the hooks When the platen bar rises, as shown in fig. 48, the hooks descend, carrying the wire across the path of the notches 83 of the platens 82 of the platen bar, and, as the bar moves forward to the position shown in FIG. 43, it comes into engagement with the wire, and the above operation is repeated.
The knitted fabric, after being removed from the machine is finished by any of the well known methods. It will therefore be seen that the weft threads extend from one selvedge to the other and are interlaced in each row; these weft yarns can be combined with additional yarns, such as separate warp yarns, binding yarns and filling or forming yarns of the design, as shown in fig. 53, to form fabrics of different types and designs.
A fabric made in the manner described above cannot stretch laterally, and when separate warp yarns are used, cannot stretch longitudinally.
Figs. 52 and 52a show one of the simplest forms of the machine for knitting plain knit fabrics, as shown in fig. 54.
The son-carrying heads 21 and 21a are similar to those described above. Each shaft 106 carrying the head comprises, fixed at its outer end, a wheel 300 provided with a single notch 201, arranged so as to be able to be hooked by the free end of a hook 202, articulated on each of the sectors. 119a, in the bat which will be described below. Each toothed sector 119a, which actuates a son-carrying head, com carries an arm 118a, which is connected by a connecting rod 117a to an arm 195 fixed on the oscillating shaft 13a, which actuates the platen bar 11a by means of the arm 91n and connecting rod 92a. The platen bar in this case only moves in a horizontal plane.
The 6 # 1 needle bar is operated in the same manner as described above, but the pick-unloader hooks are operated from the needle bar and not from the platen bar .
To the needle bar, at each end of the machine, is fixed a bracket, comprising a bar 99; 1, on which is mounted Him axis 98't, carrying a head 97i1, provided with a slide to receive a axis 96 t, mounted on the lever 951 carrying the picker-unloader hook, this lever 951 being pivoted err 9-111 on a console carried by 1P main frame.
The hooks; pick-unloaders transport the selected weft yarn from the yarn-carrying heads to a point in the path of the platen bar, and when the platen bar approaches the needles, it picks up the yarn and places it in position at the knitting spot. The yarns are guided in the manner described above.
In this embodiment of the machine, due to the excessive displacement of the pick-up-unloader hooks for the transport of a weft yarn b from the heads to the teeth 82 of the platen bar 11R, there are provided guides for the weft thread in order to prevent the latter from being brought in front of the teeth 82 and to force this thread to come to occupy its suitable position above the teeth. At each end of the work plate 7 is attached a fixed wire guide 205, which is directed upwards from the work plate 7, this guide delimiting the arc traversed by the curved end of the hooks 20 , 20R and preventing the weft thread from being moved from this end of the hooks.
The weft thread is also prevented from falling from this curved end of the hooks by a finger 20b, (fig. 52a), directed forward from each hook, so as to grip the weft thread b, if it tightens. to fall down from the hook when it is released from the guard fingers 105 by the pins of the thread-carrying head. Between the fixed metal wire guides 205, there is provided one or more movable metal wire guides 206, the number of these guides depending on the width of the fabric to be formed. Each of the wire guides 206 is supported in bearings formed in the ends of a bracket 207, attached to the cross beam 5.
Each metal wire 206 comprises a tenon 208, engaged in a slide formed in one of the arms of an angled lever 209, pivoted at the upper end of the console 207. The angled lever 209 is connected by a rod 210 to the free end of a lever 211, fixed on the shaft 13R. When the 13R shaft receives an oscillating movement. to drive the platen bar forward, the movable wire-league guides 206 are lifted out of the path thereof by the mechanism described above.
The platen bar 111, has, at each end, a combined guide and header 212 device, the curved upper part 2121, serving to guide the weft yarn b into position when the picker-unloader hooks descend, while the lower part 212b, substantially straight, serves to pick up the weft thread from the hooks, when the platen bar moves forward, and to release this weft thread during the backward travel of this platen bar.
The platen bar also carries, over its entire length, above the teeth 82, a valve protection bar 213, serving to prevent the needle valves 30 from closing too abruptly when the needle bar descends; the valves first strike the bar 213, before closing the hooks of the needles.
The operation of this embodiment of the machine is substantially the same as that of the embodiment previously described, except that in this second embodiment, the thread-carrying heads 21, 2111, at the end of their angular stroke corresponding to six steps of advance, place the first weft thread on the heads into the curved end of the pick-unloader hooks, after which these hooks take the weft thread from the heads, so that a weft thread presenting operation is suppressed compared to what takes place in the embodiment described first;
this operation has been recognized as advantageous for mechanical reasons in this second embodiment of the machine. The thread heads advance one step at a time until twelve threads have been placed in the pick-unloader hooks and removed from the heads.
Removal of the twelve threads from the heads requires only eleven separate presentation operations, due to the placement of the first weft thread of the head in the bent end.
