Description
Knotenpunkt an eisernen Flechtwerken.
Junction on iron wattle. The present invention relates to a node on iron wickerwork. According to Föppl, wattle is to be understood as a three-dimensional framework, the nodes and bars of which all lie on one surface, i.e. nowhere in the interior of the space that is enclosed by this surface. The cheapness of building an ironworks depends to a large extent on the fact that the joining of the bars at the nodes is easy to accomplish. This need is satisfied by the following node, which makes it unnecessary to connect the rods to one another by riveting them to node plates.
At this junction there are two plates provided with projections, one on the inside and the other on the outside of the wickerwork, which grip on each of the rods to be connected behind a projection at the end of the rod and hold them together by any fastening means will. This arrangement makes it possible to make all components ready-to-use in mass production, so that only the rod ends are placed between the plates on the construction site and then need to be pulled together by the selected fastening means.
By appropriately designing the protrusions that the plates and rods have, it can be achieved that the rods are secured against both approaching and moving away from the junction by the interlocking of the plates and rods. The shape of the jumps will be chosen so that the simplest possible production results.
For example, suitable panels are obtained if you screw a groove concentric to the center of the panel into one side of each panel; the groove then presents an inwardly and an outwardly directed projecting surface at each point, and one and the same plates can be used regardless of the angle at which the rods are inclined to one another. If you let the bars and the plates with keyways interlock in such a way that the plates and the bars do not touch each other at the bottom of the keyways (as illustrated, for example, in the drawing), even the angles at which the bars against the Plate normals are inclined to deviate slightly from one another.
Likewise, the rod ends can easily be given a shape by turning or milling, which presents one or two protruding (flat or curved surfaces).
The drawing shows an example of a node according to the invention, specifically in FIG. 1 in a section along the axis of two rods, and in FIG. 2 in a cross section along the line 2-2 shown in FIG.
Each of the two rods a is machined at the end so that it has a projection b with two inclined surfaces 15 on each side. Two circular disks c each with a circumferential groove d, the side surfaces of which do not match that of the projections b in their slope, over these projections. A screw bolt e with a nut f is used to pull the plates against each other and at the same time to give the rods the correct distance from the node.
