Shut-off valve, especially for compressed gases. Compressed gases, such as carbon dioxide, oxygen or hydrogen, are usually sent in compressed gas cylinders. It often happens that the shut-off valves on these bottles leak and allow the contents to escape. The cause of this inconvenience is usually the gradual loosening of the valve spindles as a result of the vibrations to which the bottles are exposed during shipping.
In addition, when the bottles overturn, the spindles are often damaged in a way that jeopardizes the sealing of the valve wesent Lich and makes it necessary to repair it, and the bottle must be emptied.
These disadvantages are eliminated by the present invention. This has a shut-off valve, especially for compressed gases, with screwable valve spindle to the object, in which a valve stem seated shut-off body by the pressure of the gas from the inside, d. H. is pressed against the valve seat from the side facing the gas container. The gas pressure counteracts unwanted rotation of the valve spindle, while at the same time an automatic seal is achieved.
In the accompanying drawing, an example embodiment of the invention is a longitudinal section with a partial wise view. brought to the display.
A valve housing b is screwed into the head of a compressed gas cylinder a. The same is drilled through in the direction of its longitudinal nose, namely a valve spindle c is inserted in this bore. This has an extension of graduated diameter, which at one end carries a valve cone d. The valve cone d is arranged in a funnel-shaped recess e, a soft rubber packing f and this is arranged in a bore g of the valve housing b.
The valve spindle c is guided vertically in a stuffing box, which consists of a soft rubber ring h and a leather packing i embedded in it. The stuffing box is exposed to the pressure of a locking nut k screwed into the valve housing. This has the right-hand thread. It is also drilled through in the axial direction, while a left-hand threaded bolt 1 is inserted in an enlarged bore of the lock nut k .
The same carries a handwheel at the top. At the bottom of the bore of the lock nut is a sealing ring n. When the valve is open, the never-screwed threaded bolt 1 presses against it .
The valve is opened by turning the handwheel m to the left. The valve spindle c moves downwards, where the valve cone d emerges from the recess e and allows the gas to penetrate into the narrower slot o (as the drawing shows), from which it flows through a fanal p escapes into the connecting piece q. A safety nut r is screwed to this (according to the drawing), as is known to be used when shipping compressed gas cylinders. Another seal between the lock nut and the connection piece is made with an insert s.
When the handwheel is turned to the right, the valve spindle c is moved upwards, where it enters the recess e and thereby closes the drain opening.
The main advantage of this shut-off valve is that the valve spindle c set to the gas pressure counteracts unwanted rotation of the handwheel m and enables the handwheel and lock nut to be removed even when the bottle is loaded, in order to carry out repair work on the valve.
To secure the valve spindle against falling out of the valve housing, it is also equipped with a cross pin t arranged below the valve cone, while the screw bolts u, sit in the valve housing b in a longitudinal groove v </ I> the valve spindle c engages and prevents rotation of the same.
Of course, materials other than hard rubber and leather can also be considered for the packs and it is obvious that this valve can also be used when filling the bottles, whereby it is closed with the nozzle q on a pressure line.
