Abstract

L'invention concerne une plaquette de coupe indexable (20) ayant des surfaces d'extrémité supérieure et inférieure opposées (22, 24), et une surface périphérique (26) comprenant trois surfaces latérales (32) alternant de façon circonférentielle avec trois surfaces d'angle (34). Les trois surfaces latérales définissent un triangle imaginaire et un hexagone imaginaire. Chaque surface d'angle coupe la surface d'extrémité supérieure pour former un bord périphérique d'angle supérieur (38) ayant un bord de coupe primaire (40). En vue de dessus, chaque côté du triangle traverse deux bords périphériques d'angle supérieur, des lignes imaginaires tangentes aux points d'extrémité de chaque bord de coupe primaire sont soit colinéaires, soit forment un angle obtus supérieur à 175 degrés, chaque bord de coupe primaire a une longueur primaire supérieure à la moitié de la longueur latérale de l'hexagone, et au moins un côté triangulaire traverse chaque bord de coupe primaire. L'insert est fixé amovible dans un outil de coupe rotatif de sorte que l'un des bords périphériques de l'angle supérieur comprend le point le plus en avant axialement du bord périphérique supérieur de l'insert.
