Abstract
La présente invention a trait à un procédé et un appareil pour la fragmentation d'ions par capture d'électrons. La présente invention a trait à un procédé de génération d'ions fragmentaires par capture d'électrons, comprenant : l'acheminement des ions à fragmenter dans une enceinte d'un dispositif de spectrométrie de masse; le piégeage d'au moins certains des ions à fragmenter dans au moins une direction de l'enceinte de fragmentation au moyen d'un champ magnétique, les ions étant piégés au sein d'un volume V ; la génération d'un faisceau d'électrons au moyen d'une source d'électrons située à distance du volume V; l'irradiation des ions piégés dans le volume V avec les électrons générés par la source d'électrons en présence dudit champ magnétique, en vue de provoquer la séparation; et l'éjection des ions fragmentaires obtenus depuis l'enceinte de fragmentation pour une analyse ultérieure à un site différent éloigné de l'enceinte de fragmentation.
