L'invention a pour objet un acier pour construction mécanique, caractérisé en ce que sa composition est, en pourcentages pondéraux : 0,35 .ltoreq. C .ltoreq. 2,5% ; 0,10% .ltoreq. Mn .ltoreq. 2,5% ; 0,60% .ltoreq. Si .ltore q. 3,0% ; traces .ltoreq. Cr .ltoreq. 4,5% ; traces .ltoreq. Mo .ltoreq. 2,0% ; traces .ltoreq. Ni .ltoreq. 4,5% ; traces .ltore q. V .ltoreq. 0,5% ; traces .ltoreq. Cu .ltoreq. 4% avec Cu .ltoreq. Ni % + 0,6 Si %, si Cu .gtoreq. 0;5% ; traces .ltoreq. Al .ltore q. 0,060% ; traces .ltoreq. Ca .ltoreq. 0,050% ; traces .ltoreq. L'invention a également pour objet un procédé de mise en forme à chaud d'une pièce d'acier, caractérisé en ce que on se procure un lopin d'acier de la composition précédente, on réchauffe le lopin à une température compri se entre le solidus et le liquidus afin d'obtenir une phase liquide et une phas e solide globulaire, an réalise une mise en forme par thixoforgeage dudit lopi n pour obtenir ladite pièce, et on effectue un refroidissement de ladite pièce . L'invention concerne enfin une pièce d'acier ainsi obtenue.
