Description

J
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the invention The invention pertains generally to transportation. More specifically, the invention relates to personal transportation for any age and at any ground surface.
The invention possesses numerous benefits and advantages over known electrical transporters.
In particular, the invention utilizes a reliable advances in electronic, batteries and electric motors.
It allows anyone to travel from one point to another, at enormous savings of "fuel" and maintenance cost.
A practical example ofthe flexible use of the invention is the ability to travel on any ground surface (gravel, tar, dust or concrete), parks, countryside, roadway or nail (bicycle or walking path/trail, bikeway, recreational trail). Options vary with the CC; a practical example for such option is the use of wheel-Trailer tFIG. 8), to carry anything from groceries, boxes to another person.
It can thus be seen that the present invention provides a novel transportation means which particularly useful in parks and country sides, which transports people with a dramatically reduced air pollution and which cooperates with the high tech industry that will lead to the production and introduction of an electric vehicle.
Description of prior art Growing concern for air quality brought Cities iii Europe, Asia, Canada and USA to develop regulations that will require the sale of electric vehicles (EV). These efforts moved from research into development phases at major automobile manufactures. To this day thousand of EV are operated and evaluated for city and suburban driving. EV performance differed greatly from one manufacturer's vehicle to another. This resulted in significant variation of suitable components, and advancing the technology of EV powertrains motors, batteries, controllers and transmissions.
Ford Motor company has been awarded a research and development program by NASA, the results was "Integrated AC Motor Transaxle", which could be mounted on either the front or rear wheel axis. Similarly; General Electric has accumulated vast EV technical expertise through their research, development and production activities in AC and DC motors, power electronics and power semiconductors. Bollard (Canada) has developed Fuel CelllBattery system, which provided range advantages, clean and quiet operation bus in the USA.
Many electric vehicles built by a wide variety of manufacturers and are in use throughout the world. Vehicle applications include private passenger cars, commercial delivery vans, and buses.
It is apparent from the foregoing that the prior art fails to teach, or even suggest, an "electric vehicle" such as the Creepy-Crawler.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention pertains to a personal electrical transport. The Creepy-Crawler (CC) components consist of Chassis, track, drums, bogie sets, drive wheel, axle, Direct-Drive Motor; batteries, carriage, steering arm, power switching and operator controls and charger.
chassis This is a separate steel box structure, incorporating mounting points for the body (carriage), battery, power unit (electric motor), bogie sets and front drums. The independent rear suspension comprises a rear axle. The front drums assist in steering and braking.
Track:
The track suspension consists of two sets of bogie wheels suspended in the chassis. An arm on each side of the chassis suspends the front guiding drum while the rear wheels house on an axle drives the track. The track consists of crisscrossed layers of polyester in synthetic nabber and steel sprocket clips. The track supports the weight of the CC when it is at rest.
Track Tension The proper track tension and alignment is important in order to eliminate unnecessary- wear to the drive components and track. It is also essential to maintain efficient, economical operation of the Creepy-Crawler. The tension is correct when a total slack of .5 inch. is obtained at the center of the track, when the CC is at rest. The track should center itself between the sides of the chassis and the track teeth enter evenly into the rear drive slots.
Braking System:
Mechanical (hand-brake), brake cable attached to the brake on each drum and the steering arm base activated drum or disc brakes for each front rotating drum (If case of three to four wheels chassis, an (EB) electromagnetic brakes or {RB) regenerative braking system will be used. RB
acts as a generator when the Creepy Crawler is slowing down, and re-charging while the vehicle is in use).
Steering:
On the track system, turning the steering arm to the left will activate the brake and slowdown the left guiding drum, as a results the CC will turn left and visa versa to the right. Pulling the steering arms towards the driver will activate the brake in both drums and slow down the CC or stop it (If three wheels are used, it will be the A design layout - one wheel in front far steering and two the back for the drive and support for the load. Front wheel/drive wheel no larger than 8- inch wheels. If Twin-wheel steering is used, it will be the B or C design layout -Four-wheeler or a three-wheeler with two wheels to steer (spells "automatic steering")).
Steering arm folds down for easy transport.
Control:
CC will have two components of control: power switching and operator controls.
The power switching may be simply a switch, which turns the motor fln or Off; that's the extent of the power switching circuit. The operator control switches are mechanical lever (Full forward and reverse speed control for ease of operation), which brings the motor's drive wheel f n contact with the drum wheel or with the CC wheel's rim.
Motor:
CC will be powered by "Direct-Drive Motor" direct-drive systems, where the motor is connected directly to the wheel, have the advantage of lighter weight and greater efficiency.

Battery:
'There are a lot of technologies being studied: aluminum-air, advanced nickel-iron, sodium-sulfur, and hydrogen. Any rechargeable batteries will be considered, in the meantime, we will use the Lead-Acid batteries. With this type of batteries, the flow of electricity is reversed when the driver steps on the brake, recharging the battery, and thereby extending its range.
The new Lead-Acid batteries are designed to last through 400 to 80~ charge-discharge cycles.
Charging:
A CC is equipped with either an on or off board charger, to convert and regulate electricity from the wall plug to reenergize the battery/ies after they have been discharged.
