Abstract

Un système de câblodistribution utilise une unique fibre optique monomode pour transmettre, d'un terminal de tête de ligne à un terminal de distribution, un signal optique composite contenant des signaux de télévision sur différents canaux de fréquences à destination d'un certain nombre de terminaux d'abonné, et, au terminal de distribution, convertit les signaux transmis en signaux électriques pour les distribuer à un certain nombre de terminaux d'abonné sur un certain nombre de câbles coaxiaux. En outre, le terminal de distribution reçoit des signaux électriques de demande de service de chacun desdits terminaux d'abonné et convertit chacun de ces signaux en un signal optique de demande de service pour transmission au terminal de tête de ligne sur la même fibre optique monomode qui est utilisée pour transmettre le signal optique composite. Des multiplexeurs/démultiplexeurs optiques couplent la fibre optique au terminal de tête de ligne et au terminal de distribution pour permettre la transmission bidirectionnelle. Le terminal d'abonné obéit à un signal de commande qui lui est transmis pour permettre à un récepteur faisant partie dudit terminal d'abonné de recevoir les signaux de télévision qui lui sont transmis sur un canal de fréquences choisi parmi les différents canaux précités. Le terminal de tête de ligne comprend un commutateur numérique qui fonctionne en coordination avec les signaux de commande transmis aux terminaux d'abonné afin de permettre à ceux-ci de recevoir seulement les canaux de fréquences choisis, en positionnant le signal de télévision indiqué par le signal de demande de service reçu d'un terminal d'abonné donné de façon que sa fréquence se trouve à l'intérieur du signal composite à transmettre audit terminal d'abonné sur le canal de fréquences donné autorisé par le signal de commande transmis audit terminal d'abonné.
