The subject of the present invention is new zootechnical compositions containing on the one hand, zeranol and on the other hand, a 4,9,11-triene steroid.
In its Canadian patent application no 302,063 filed on April 26, 1978, the Applicant Company described and sold dic zootechnical compositions characterized in this that they contain on the one hand, zeranol, and on the other hand, a steroid of formula I:
in which R represents an alkyl radical containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, X represents a hydrogen atom, a saturated or unsaturated alkyl radical containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms of which one of the carbon atoms can be replaced by an oxygen atom, where X represents another acyl radical derived from a carboxylic acid containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms, possibly with one or more other substances used to improve resorption compositions, in particular an anti-inflammatory substance.

These compositions are intended to promote the weight gain in farm animals, such as cattle and pigs. Indeed, the simultaneous presence of two active ingredients unexpectedly strengthen, the favorable action on the growth of the animals of one and on the other of the active ingredients, so that it results significantly higher weight gain than which one would have expected given the properties known to the constituents. On this subject, Canadian demand n 302.063 describes in particular that for cattle, and more particularly beef, the compositions can contain between 10 and 100 mg of zeranol, and preferably between 20 and 60 mg and between 50 and 400 mg of the product of formula I and, preferably, between 100 and 300 mg.
For administration to livestock, above compositions can be deposited as implant in the dermis, preferably at the base of the ear.
They are deposited for example from twenty days to four months before slaughter preferably one to three months before this one.
As previously indicated, Canadian demand n 302,063 filed on April 26, 1978 so claims general, all associations containing zeranol and a steroid of formula I and more specifically described associations containing between 10 and 100 mg of zeranol and, preferably between 20 and 60 mg and between 50 and 400 mg of product of formula I and preferably between 100 and 300 mg.
Canadian application no. 302.063 filed on 26 April 1978 also envisages, more particularly, the compositions containing an amount of steroid of formula I much more important than the amount of zeranol.
According to the present invention, it has now been l _, 'L ~ 5 ~ ~
discovered that it was possible to get great results on the growth of the pig, and on its weight gain in in particular, by administering compositions to pigs zootechnics in which the amount of steroid formula I is weaker.
The subject of the present invention is therefore the zootechnical compositions, characterized in that they contain an amount between 10 and 50 mg of zeranol for a- ~! quant ~ t between 5 and 50 mg of product formula I:
1 ~ \ _9x . ~ / (I) ~ ~ I
in which R represents an alkyl radical containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, X represents a hydrogen atom, a saturated or unsaturated alkyl radical containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms of which one of the carbon atoms can be replaced by an oxygen atom where X represents a radical acyl derived from a carboxylic acid containing from 1 to 18 carbon atoms.
The subject of the invention is more particularly the compositions as defined above, characterized in that they contain a steroid; of formula I in which R represents a methyl radical as well as those characterized in that they contain a steroid of formula I in which X represents an acyl radical derived from a organic carboxylic acid containing from 1 to 18 atoms of carbon.
- The invention more specifically relates to compositions as defined above, characterized in that the steroid of formula I is 3-oxo 17 ~ -acetoxy will be 4,9,11-triene.
The subject of the invention is especially compositions as defined above, characterized in that they contain an amount between 10 and 40 mg zeranol, for an amount between 10 and 30 mg of 3-oxo 17 ~ -acetoxy estra 4,9,11-triene and in particular, compositions characterized in that they contain 10 40 mg of zeranol for 20 mg of 3-oxo 17 ~ -acetoxy estra 4,9,11-triene.
The invention is naturally very particularly for subject the compositions described below, in the Experimental part.
As indicated above, the compositions according to the invention make it possible to obtain very good results in pork. The compositions of the invention are not are not limited to administration in pigs; they can also be administered to cattle, sheep and poultry.
The compositions of the invention are administered preferably in the form of implants. These implants can to be administered in the neck of animals or in the muscles glutes. They are deposited for example from 20 days to 4 months before slaughter, preferably 1 to 3 months before slaughter.
The compositions of the invention can be equal either injected in the form of solutions or suspensions, either ingested; implants have the advantage of being better resorbs.
Zootechnical compositions, as defined previously, show interesting properties including anabolic properties and, more particularly, protein anabolic properties. These properties 3 ~
make the zootechnical compositions of the invention suitable to be used in particular to increase gene resistance organic rale to aggressions of all kinds, to fight against stunted growth, weight loss, general organic disorders linked to a state of senescence and also to fight secondary diseases infectious, parasitic and nutritional.
The compounds used in the compositions of the invention are known products; zeranol or zearalanol (see Merck Index 1976, 9th edition 9781) can be prepared, for example, according to the method described in the patent for United States of America 3,239,345.
Compounds of formula I can be prepared according to the procedures described in French patents 1,380,414 and 1,492,985, as well as in Belgian patent 696,084.
