La présente invention a pour objet un nouveau procédé
de préparation de l'alcool ~-c~ano 3-phénoxy benzylique.
Le procédé, objet de l'invention, est caractérisé en ce que l'on fait réagir, en présence d'un solvant ou d'un mélange de solvants, la combinaison bisulfitique du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde de formule :

avec un composé générateur d'ions CN-.
Parmi les composés générateurs d'ions CN- utilisés, on peut citer notamment l'acide cyanhydrique, le cyanure d'ammo-nium, les cyanures alcalins, les cyanures alcalino-terreux.
Un mode d'exécution avantageux pour effectuer la cyanu-ration consiske à utiliser un cyanure alcalin.
1a cyanuration de la combinaison bisulfitique peuk être effectuée en milieu aqueux.
Le mélange de solvanks, au sein duquel esk effectuée la cyanuration de la combinaison bisulfitique du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde, est alors conskitué nokamment d'une part, par de l'eau ek d'autre part, par un solvant dipolaire aprotique, tel que le dimékhyl formamide, le diméthoxy éthane, le diméthyl sulfoxyde, l'acékonitrile.
Selon un mode opératoire avantageux, la cyanurakion est effectuée au sein d'un mélange d'eau et de diméthyl formamide.
Dans un mode opératoire particulier de mise en oeuvre du procédé de l'invention, la cyanurakion en milieu aqueux est effectuée en présence d~un agent acide.
Cet agent acide peuk ekre un acide fort, tel que l'acide sulfurique ou chlorhydrique, mais on utilise, de .
S~6 préférence, un acide carboxylique de faible acidité.
C'est ainsi qu'un mode opératoire avantageux pour effectuer la cyanuration en milieu aqueux de la combinaison bisulfitique consiste ~ opérer en présence d'acide acétique.
Selon un mode opératoire préféré du procédé de l~in-vention, pour effectuer la cyanuration, on introduit une suspen-sion de la combinaison bisulfitique du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde dans une solution aqueuse de cyanure de sodium~

La cyanuration de la combinaison bisulfiti~ue du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde peut également etre effectuée selon un mode opératoire très original, en opérant en milieu anhydre.

La combinaison bisulfitique du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde s'avère ainsi être un composé très utile pour la préparation de l'alcool a-cyano 3-phénoxy benzylique.
Cette combinaison bisulfitique peut être préparée en faisant réagir, au sein d'un solvant ou d'un mélange de solvants, un bisulfite alcalin sur le métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde.
Comme mélange de solvants, on peut utiliser notamment un mélange d'eau, d'éther isopropylique et de méthanol ou un .
mélange d'eau et d'isopropanol.
La combinaison bisulfitlque du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde présente, sur l'aldéhyde isolé, l'avantage d'être plus stable et d'être purifiable par cristallisation dans un solvant organique, tel que l'acétate d'éthyle. Le produit purifié, ainsi obtenu, présente une excellente pureté, de l'ordre de 98%, et peut être converti par cyanuration, en alcool ~-cyano 3-phénoxy benzylique avec un rendement presque quantitatif~ .

très utile, sur le plan industriel, car il est utilisé, notamment, pour préparer des esters d'acides cyclopropane carboxyliques à

Les exemples suivants illustrent l'invention sans la limiter.
Préparation de la combinaison bisul-Ei-tique du métaphé-noxy benzaldéhYde Dans 800 cm3 d'éther isopropylique, on dissout 200 g de métaphéno~y benzaldéhyde, ajoute, ~ la solution, une solution de 200 g de métabisulfite de sodium dans 800 cm3 d'eau, puis 250 cm3 de méthanol, agite pendant 3 heures, isole par essorage, le précipité formé, le lave par un mélange de méthanol et d'eau (50 - 50), puis ~ l'éther isopropylique, sèche le précipité et obtient 295 g de combinaison bisulfitique du métaphénoxy benzal-déhyde (titre en hydrogène mobile 95,5 %).

Ce composé peut être purifié par cristallisation dans 4 volumes d'acétate d~éthyle (Rendement 97,6 %). Le titre en hydrogène mobile du produit purifié est, d'au moins, 98 %.

Dans 7,4 1 de diméthyl formamide, on inkroduit 3,700 Kg de co.mbinaison bisul~itique du métaphénoxy benzaldéhyde (titre 98 %), ajoute, en 10 minutes environ à ~ 5C, sous agitation, une solution de 0,765 Kg de cyanure de sodium dans 3,8 1 d'eau, ajoute 4n 30 minutes environ, à ~ 5C, 3,8 1 d'acide acétique, agite encore pendant 30 minutes à -~ 10C, verse le m~lange r~actionnel dans un mélange d'eau et d'acétate d'éthyle, agite, sépare, par décantation, la phase aqueuse, l'extrait à noùveau à deux reprises à l'acétate d'éthyle, réunit les phases organi-ques, les lave à l'eau, les sèche, ajoute 0,37 Kg de charbon actif et 0,37 Kg de sulfate de sodium, agite, filtre, concentre ', ; ' , ' , ' ' ; ; ' ~ , , , ' ' ~08~56tj à sec par distillation sous pression réduite et obtient 2,770 Kg d'alcool ~-cyano 3-phénoxy benzylique (contenant environ l % de :

Le composé obtenu présente les caractéristiques suivantes : Titre en azote 6,3 g pour 100 g (théorie 6,20), titre en hydrogène mobile : lO0 %.
Pour le stockage, ce composé est additionné de 13,5 cm3 d'acide acétique.
