Instalações em alto-mar, sistemas e métodos para o tratamento de água residual foram desenvolvidos.Uma instalação de tratamento de água residual em alto mar inclui componentes para tratamento de água residual (para tratamento preliminar, tratamento primário, tratamento secundário e/ou tratamento avançado); um dispositivo para mover a água residual de um local baseado em terra para a instalação; um dispositivo para a remoção da água residual tratada da instalação; e um dispositivo para a remoção do lodo da instalação.Um método de tratamento de água residual inclui: transporte da água residual de um local em terra para uma instalação de tratamento de água residual localizada em alto-mar, em um corpo de água, e sujeição da água residual tratamento preliminar, tratamento primário, tratamento secundário e/ou tratamento avançado.
