Abstract

"MéTODO DE SELETIVAMENTE PRODUZIR PLANTAS ESTéREIS MASCULINAS OU FEMININAS". A presente invenção refere-se a um método de produção de plantas estéreis masculinas ou femininas compreendendo as etapas de transformar o material de planta com um polinucleotídeo que codifica pelo menos uma enzima que reage com uma substância não-fitotóxica para produzir uma planta fitotóxica, e regenerar o material assim transformado em uma planta, em que a dita substância não-fitotóxica é aplicada na planta até o momento da formação e/ou maturação do gameta masculino ou feminino, de modo que a substância não-fitotóxica forneça a produção de uma planta fitotóxica que seletivamente impeça a formação ou de outra maneira renda os ditos gametas não-funcionais, em que a enzima é expressa preferencialmente nas estruturas reprodutivas masculinas ou femininas e a substância não-fitotóxica é um aminoácido D-alfa, ou um derivado de peptídeo de um aminoácido D-alfa não-protéico, caracterizado pelo fato de que a enzima é uma D-aminoácido oxidase mutante, obtenível de Rhodotorula gracilis, cuja oxidase compreende uma lisina na posição 58 em vez de uma fenilaianina na seqüência tipo silvestre.
