Compostos da fórmula (I) na qual: R~ 1~, R~ 2~, R~ 3~, R~ 4~, R~ 5~, R~ 6~, R~ 7~, e R~ 8~ são, independentemente, hidrogênio, COOR~ 15~, halogênio, nitro, ciano, C~ 1-10~ alcóxi, C~ 1-10~ haloalcóxi, ácido sulfónico, C~ 1-10~ alquilsulfonila, C~ 6-12~ arilsulfonila, C~ 6-12~ aralquilsulfonila, C~ 1-10~ alquilsufinila, C~ 6-12~ arilsufinila, C~ 6-12~ aralquilsufinila, sulfamoíla, C~ 1-10~ alquilsulfamida, C~ 6-12~ arilsulfamida, C~ 1-10~ alcanoíla, C~ 6-12~ ariloíla, C~ 6-12~ aralcanoil, amina, C~ 1-10~ alquilamino, C~ 2-10~ dialquilamino, C~ 6-12~ araquilamino, C~ 6-12~ arilamino, carboxamida, C~ 1-10~ alquilcarboxamida, C~ 6-12~ arilcarboxamida, C~ 1-10~ haloalquila, C~ 1-10~ alquila, C~ 2-12~ alquenila, C~ 6-12~ arila, C~ 6-12~ aralquila; com a condição de que pelo menos um de R~ 4~ e R~ 5~ seja COOR~ 15~; R~ 9~ é hidrogênio, C~ 1-10~ alquila e C~ 1-10~ haloalquila; R~ 10~ é hidrogênio, C~ 1-10~ alquila, C~ 1-10~ haloalquila, ou C~ 2-12~ alquilideno; R~ 15~ é hidrogênio, cátion de metal, acetilamida, alcoxiacetoíla ou uma porção relacionada que fornece o carboxilato in vivo; a linha pontilhada é uma dupla união opcional; com a condição de que quando R~ 10~ é uma porção de alquilideno, a dupla união esteja ausente; e W é nitrogênio ou carbono conduzindo um hidrogênio, ou R~ 4~, R~ 5~ ou R~ 6~ como aqui anteriormente definidos; ou sais farmacêuticos destes, são úteis no tratamento de distúrbios associados com a contração dos músculos lisos via canal de potássio e modulação do canal de cloreto.
