a invenção refere-se a um sistema portátil que permite que pessoas cegas ou deficientes visuais interpretem o ambiente ao redor através de som ou de toque, o dito sistema compreendendo: duas câmeras (3i, 3d) separadas uma da outra e configuradas para capturar uma imagem do ambiente simultaneamente, e meios (4i, 4d) para gerar sinais de saída de som e/ou de toque. vantajosamente, o sistema também compreende os meios de processamento (2) conectados às câmeras (3i, 3d) e aos meios (4i, 4d) para gerar sinais de som e/ou de toque. os meios de processamento são configurados para combinar as imagens capturadas em tempo real e para processar a informação associada a pelo menos uma banda vertical com informação relacionada à profundidade dos elementos na imagem combinada, os ditos meios de processamento (2) também sendo configurados para: dividir a banda vertical em uma ou mais regiões; definir um sinal de som ou de toque, em cada região, de acordo com a profundidade da região e a altura da região; e definir um sinal de saída de som ou de toque com base nos sinais de som ou de toque em cada região da banda vertical.
