a presente invenção se refere a uma composição de catalisador e a um processo para a oligomerização de etileno para produzir 1-hexeno ou 1-octeno, em que a composição de catalisador compreende um composto de cromo; um ligante npnpn da fórmula (r1)(r2)n-p(r3)-n(r4)-p(r5)-n(r6)(r7), em que r1, r2, r3, r4, r5, r6 e r7 são, cada um, independentemente, hidrogênio, halogênio, amino, trimetilsilila ou hidrocarbila c1-c20, de preferência alquila c1-c10 de cadeia linear ou ramificada, fenila, fenila substituída por alquila c6-c20 ou arila c6-c20.
