Abstract
"MéTODO E APARELHO PARA DESINFECçãO DE áGUA DE BAIXO CUSTO". Trata-se de um sistema de baixo custo (1) para fornecer água de beber, o qual inclui um recipiente de água de alimentação (5) com um filtro de cerâmica simples (20) que cobre uma saída (19) do recipiente de água de alimentação (5). O filtro preferido (20) é geralmente de conformação cilíndrica com um diâmetro interno (19) que se estende parcialmente através do mesmo, em uma configuração comumente denominada de filtro de "vela de cerâmica" em países em desenvolvimento. Sob a força da gravidade, a água de alimentação se filtra através da cerâmica (20) até um recipiente de armazenamento (10) abaixo. A água filtrada é irradiada com energia ultravioleta (UV) ou à medida em que flui ou depois de ser coletada no recipiente de armazenamento (10). Em uma modalidade, a água filtrada é temporariamente coletada em um reservatório de retenção intermediário (210), onde pode ser irradiada de maneira constante em bateladas e periodicamente liberada para o recipiente inferior (10). A filtragem através da cerâmica proporciona água transparente com um baixo coeficiente de extinção UV para uma desinfecção UV mais eficaz. Além disto, a filtragem alimentada pela gravidade através da cerâmica (20) proporciona uma taxa lenta de fluxo de água e consequentemente uma dose elevada de UV para uma dada intensidade UV.
