Um motor elétrico (12) do tipo sem escova é descrito o qual está construído e arranjado de tal modo que proporciona um baixo torque de frenagem. Um sistema de direção de energia elétrica incorporando um tal motor também é descrito. Em um arranjo preferido, o motor (12) compreende um motor de magneto interno permanente. Uma vantagem da provisão de um motor que gera baixos níveis de torque de frenagem no caso de uma falha é que um motorista pode facilmente girar o volante (3) do veículo na condição de falha contra o motor.
