 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Avantageusement, en pratique :   - les   pieds sont en matière plastique   inJectée,   telle que   PVC,   polyéthylène, polypropylène, polystyrène, chargée ou non de fibres de verre   ;   - ces pieds évasés ont une forme appropriée, notamment une forme de tronc de cône, voire tégragonale, ou encore mieux présentent une section cannelée, de manière à offrir une meilleure surface portante et une meilleure résistance à l'écrasement   ;     - l'adhésif,   destiné à solidariser ces pieds avec la plaque ou le plateau, est une matière destinée à être déposée par tout moyen approprié, mais à prise rapide (de l'ordre de la seconde)   ;

     il est indispensable que cet adhésif soit sec, c'est-à-dire sans eau afin de ne pas pénétrer dans le carton formant le plateau ; avantageusement, on utilise des adhésifs type hot-melt.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 EMI5.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 EMI7.1

  L'invention présente de nombreux avantages par rapport aux réalisations connues à ce jour. On peut citer : - possibilité de s'adapter à toutes les épaisseurs de plaques, notamment en carton ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 EMI8.1
 - fait qu'il est beaucoup plus facile de coller un pied à une plaque que de visser des pieds à des palettes en bois ou que mettre en place des pieds dans des ouvertures préalablement découpées ; - de trou dans la plaque ; - stockage facile et séparé des pieds et des plaques ;

      d'une- la possibilité de réaliser des petites séries, sur place au dernier moment, sans faire appel à une main-d'oeuvre qualifiée, ce que ne permettaient économiquement pas les techniques actuelles ; - la possibilité de manipuler sous forme de palettes les caisses américaines, ce qui n'était pas possible jusqu'alors ; - la possibilité de glisser, plus précisément de
 EMI8.2

   DESCRIPTION FOR HANDLING PALLET.

   The invention relates to a new type of foot for a handling pallet, in particular cardboard.

   As is known, a handling pallet is a tray, forming a floor, intended to allow the storage and handling of loads by means of forklifts.

   Pallets formed by a plate, in particular made of cardboard, forming a floor, which are supported on plastic feet, are already known in order to allow the forklift truck to pass through (see for example bre-
 EMI2.1
 vet U. K. 089 316 or US-A-3 377 847 and 3 316 861).

   -A-2In French patent FR-A-2 341 493, a method has been described for the production of such feet, in which these feet are produced first of all by winding on itself a strip of corrugated cardboard , then in application. as for one end of this cylindrical body a ban-
 EMI2.2
 double-sided adhesive. However, this technique has (hardly given satisfaction because, on the one hand, the manufacture of these feet is expensive especially as it uses double-sided adhesive tapes, itself an expensive product, and other On the other hand, the honeycomb structure of the winding thus produced considerably limits the contacts between the upper surface of the winding and the adhesive material, therefore the adhesion properties.

   Furthermore, the mechanical resistance of these feet to use is hardly satisfactory, in particular as a result of the resumption of humidity. Finally, because
 EMI2.3
 the feet are cylindrical and that as a result of the honeycomb structure, their base grips the roughness, due to the lack of rigidity, these feet cannot slide under the effect of a push, which is considered to be unacceptable.

   The invention overcomes these drawbacks. It concerns a foot for a handling pallet of the constituted type

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 by a plate associated with plastic feet, which is, on the one hand, economical to manufacture, easily adaptable to small series and to plates of different thicknesses, and, on the other hand, does not require any specialized material for its development.

   This plet of plastic pallet of generally hollow and flared shape, intended to be secured to the back of a plate forming the pallet proper, is characterized in that the large open base of the foot has a wide horizontal rim in shape crown, the outer surface of which is coated with a layer of adhesive material, in turn coated with a
 EMI3.1
 removable protective sheet, intended to be removed when the foot is placed on the back of the plate forming the pallet.

  Advantageously, in practice: - the feet are made of injected plastic, such as PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, loaded or not with glass fibers; - These flared feet have an appropriate shape, in particular a truncated cone shape, or even tegragonal, or even better have a grooved section, so as to provide a better bearing surface and better resistance to crushing; - The adhesive, intended to secure these feet with the plate or the plate, is a material intended to be deposited by any appropriate means, but quick setting (of the order of a second);

     it is essential that this adhesive is dry, that is to say without water so as not to penetrate into the cardboard forming the tray; advantageously, hot-melt type adhesives are used.

   If more generally, the plate is flat in order to form a tray, it can also be constituted by the flat bottom of a box, in particular of cardboard, such as that of a so-called American box. Likewise, the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 plate may be made of a material other than cardboard, such as for example plastic.

   In an advantageous embodiment, the locations of the feet on the plate are predetermined, in particular by printing simultaneously with the cutting, on the reverse side of the plate, advantageously made of cardboard.

  In this way, when it is desired to put the feet in place, their appropriate location is easily identified and therefore does not require any specialized personnel.

   The manner in which the invention can be implemented and the advantages which result therefrom will emerge more clearly from the following exemplary embodiments, given by way of illustration.
 EMI4.1
 dicative and not limiting, in support of the appended figures.

  Figure 1 is a summary sectional view of a foot according to the invention.

   Figure 2 is a top view representation of the same foot.

   Figure 3 shows in section a pallet with cardboard plate associated with such feet.

   Figure 4 shows an embodiment of the reverse side of a cardboard plate suitable for the implementation of the invention.

   FIGS. 5 and 6 represent an improved embodiment of the invention, respectively in
 EMI4.2
 summary perspective view 3/4 view from above (fig. 5) and 3/4 from below (fig. 6).

  Referring to Figures 1 to 4, the characteristic foot of the invention (1) is made of injected plastic, such as for example polypropylene.

  This foot (1) essentially comprises a body (2) of hollow and tapered shape (frustoconical) closed at its small base (3). However, to allow the evacuation of condensations, this small base (3) has a small opening (4). This foot is open at its upper part

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 EMI5.1
 (large base) in the center (5). It also has, above all, according to the essential characteristic of the invention, a wide horizontal rim (6) in the form of a crown or the like.

   To allow stacking of the feet on each other, therefore their convenient storage, it is necessary the internal and external taper of the feet is almost Likewise, the diameter of the opening (5) must be greater than the outside diameter of the base (3) to allow passage from the bottom (3) to the top (5). However, for the convenience of the drawings, these rules were not fully observed.

  The tapered shape of circular section of generally conical shape is reinforced by beams (7, 8 and 9) coming directly from molding (see Figure 2).

  By way of example, a foot is produced according to FIGS. 1 and 2, having the following dimensional characteristics: mm - of the flange (6): mm - of the beams (7, 8, 9): mm - of the walls (2, 3 ): mm - base diameter (3): 80 mm - square opening: mm - width of the crown forming the edge (6): 60 mm On the horizontal upper face (13) of this crown (6) , by any known means, a layer of fast-setting adhesive is deposited, such as in particular a hot-melt adhesive, for example based on synthetic rubber. Advantageously, the deposition technique is used by means of regulated nozzles supplied from melters.

   In this way, it is possible to deposit four discontinuous bands respectively (14, 15, 16, 17), (see FIG. 2), for example 1 cm in width on each of the four sides of the square crown 6) which are symbolized by dotted.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 then, on each of these four discontinuous bands. adhesive (14-17), four strips of silicone paper, respectively (18-21), are always deposited continuously, that is to say temporarily protective paper.

   The purpose of these papers is to protect the layers of adhesive (14-17). The width and the length of these strips of paper (18-21) are greater than those of the strips of adhesive (14-17), in order on the one hand, to protect them well, and on the other hand, to can be easily removed by hand when you want to stick the feet against the cardboard plate (10).

   The pre-cut cardboard plate (10), for example 800 x 1200 mm, has several marks (25) previously printed, for example here five in number (see Figure 4). These marks (25) are located at the four
 EMI6.1
 corners of the carton, at a distance between 50 and 100 mm from the corners and in the center.

  To stick the feet (1) on the back of the cardboard (10), we operate as follows. By hand, the surveyor removes the protective paper strips (18-21).

  It then applies the glued side of the crown (6) of the foot (1) to each preprinted mark (25). Thanks to the instantaneous setting of the adhesive material (14-17) at room temperature, and this by simple contact, the feet adhere firmly to the cardboard (10). In this way, the pallet is thus ready for use (see Figure 3).

   If in the embodiment described, the sec-
 EMI6.2
 tion of the foot is tetragonal, it goes without saying that this shape may be different: polygonal, cylindrical, conical, serrated, etc.

   In a preferred embodiment ,. shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the hollow base (30), made of polypropylene copolymer, essentially consists of: - a plurality of grooves (31) or serrations,
 EMI6.3
 for example eight in number, 1.5 mm thick,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 EMI7.1
 regular and symmetrical in general conical shape.

  - plurality of ribs forming bridges (32), coming from moldings intended to reinforce the solidity of the crown (33); - Crown (33) of generally external shape substantially square but rounded at its angles (34), also 1.5 mm thick, open in the center (35).

  - orifice (35) placed on the small base for the evacuation of condensation water.

  As before, by regulated nozzles, four discontinuous strips, one centimeter wide, of hot-melt glue, especially of rubber covered with a strip of silicone paper 39) are deposited, exceeding the strips of glue in width and in length.

  The installation on the cardboard (10) or on the bottom of an American box is carried out as previously.

  Likewise, if the cardboard (10) most generally has the shape of a flat plate, this cardboard (10) can also be constituted by the bottom of a cardboard box, such as a box. In this way, when one wishes to handle the box in question, it suffices to stick on the bottom of this box feet in accordance with the invention to allow paletization, that is to say handling in the form of pallets of this box thanks to Forklift forks.

  If in the examples described, the plate or the tray is made of cardboard, they can also be made of any other material, for example agglomerated or even better of plastic. This last embodiment (plastic tray) allows the storage of these trays on a wet floor without re-humidity.

  The invention has many advantages over the embodiments known to date. We can cite: - possibility of adapting to all thicknesses of plates, in particular of cardboard;

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 EMI8.1
 - makes it much easier to stick a foot to a plate than to screw feet to wooden pallets or to put feet in pre-cut openings; - hole in the plate; - easy and separate storage of feet and plates;

      of one- the possibility of carrying out small series, on the spot at the last moment, without calling upon a qualified manpower, which the current techniques did not allow economically; - the possibility of handling American boxes in the form of pallets, which was not possible until then; - the possibility of sliding, more precisely
 EMI8.2
 slip under the effect of a lateral thrust without deforming or crashing.

  In this way, this invention can receive very varied applications in the field of handling by pallets: - in the form of pallets themselves (either flat cardboard or other material plates); - either in the form of boxes (cardboard boxes).
