<EMI ID=1.1>

- la figure 1 est une coupe horizontale partielle d'une première forme de réalisation d'une fenêtre coupe-feu selon l'invention;

<EMI ID=9.1>

Ensuite, on règle

Fire window
Fire window
The present invention relates to a fire-resistant window comprising a window, single or double,
whose edges surrounded by a suitable seal are housed in grooves presented
by a sleeper.
In known fire-resistant windows, the glass is mounted directly in a groove of the frame open on one side for this purpose. Then, this window is sealed by the seal in the previously closed groove, for example by a glazing slat attached to the frame.
When mounting such a window on a building site,
the frame is first placed in the corresponding opening of the masonry and fixed to it. Then the glass is positioned in the opening of the frame
and sealed in the grooves thereof.
During its manufacture, it sometimes happens that the frame is not strictly square, especially in large dimensions. The frame tolerances may be exceeded. In addition,
it also happens that the frame is placed out of square when it is mounted in the masonry. In these two cases, the opening defined by the bottoms of the grooves of the frame is warped and takes the approximate shape of a parallelogram or a trapezoid instead of the normal shape of a rectangle. Therefore, after placing the glass in the opening in question, the edges of the glass are not regularly spaced from the bottom of the grooves and the thickness of the seal is greater in certain places around the perimeter of the glass. These places are weak points from a fire protection point of view because they offer rapid passage to flames and hot gases in the event of fire.
The object of the invention is a new fireproof window which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of known windows.
To this end, in the fire window according to the invention, the edges of the glass are sealed by the seal in a continuous thermally insulating frame. In addition, a rigid element of thermally insulating material extends over the entire length of each groove of the frame and is adjustable in position relative to the bottom of this groove. In this way, when this fire-rated window is assembled on site, the frame can
be mounted with a small clearance between the rigid elements after their prior adjustment and before the lateral closing of the grooves.
Thus, the factory assembly of the glass and the frame makes it possible to obtain between them a regular gasket having no point or any weak zone. In addition, the mounting on site of the frame
in the grooves of the frame makes it possible to obtain between
this frame and the rigid elements of the grooves a
particularly low clearance which creates a very high pressure drop for any gas leak. Consequently, the window according to the invention has fire-resistant characteristics which are both important and easily reproducible, whatever the actual dimensions of the opening made in the masonry for the frame and whatever the manufacturing tolerances of this. sleeping. Preferably, the window frame is made of synthetic material.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
a tongue made of a plentiful material is inserted continuously between the bottom of the frame and the seal. By the very nature of its constituent material, the tongue swells under the effect of a rise in temperature and partially remedies
loss of tightness of the seal when it is reduced under the action of flames.
To ensure easy adjustment of each rigid element relative to the bottom of the corresponding groove of the frame, the rigid element is mounted on the bottom of the corresponding groove of the frame by means of clamping screws and with the interposition of an element flexible and elastic which is compressed over the entire length of the groove.
In the case where the frame has a metal profile internally defining the opening of this frame,
the profile has the grooves and forms on one side
of these, a continuous pan serving as support for the frame, and on the opposite side, an engagement opening
of this frame, which opening is provided after mounting of a glazing slat serving as a support opposite to said frame.
Other details and particularities of the invention will appear during the description which follows,
made with reference to the accompanying drawings which show

ment, three embodiments of the invention:
- Figure 1 is a partial horizontal section of a first embodiment of a fire window according to the invention;
- Figure 2 is a partial horizontal section of a second embodiment of the new fire window; - Figure 3 is a partial sectional view of an <EMI ID = 3.1>
In the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates a laminated glass pane resistant in particular to thermal shock. The pane 1 could be of similar double-walled glass. The vertical and horizontal edges of the window 1 are sealed in a vertical continuous frame 2 by means of a seal 3. The frame 2 is advantageously made up of identical profiles made of synthetic material and in the shape of a U. The ends profiles are integral with one another. The wings of the profiles directed inwards are situated respectively in two planes parallel to the window 1. The continuous seal 3 surrounds the edges of the window 1 inside the frame 2. The seal 3, known per se, is
made of synthetic material - for example silicone-based.
Advantageously but not necessarily, a continuous tongue 4 is applied against the webs of the profiles
of frame 2 around the entire periphery of the latter. The tongue 4 is therefore in fact inserted between the gasket 3 and the bottom of the frame 2. The tongue 4 is made of an abundant material, known per se. example of sodium silicate. The advantage of the tongue 4 is as follows. In the event of a fire from a side of
<EMI ID = 4.1>
tab 4 receive increasing heat and their temperature increases. On the other hand, the seal 3 is burned and gradually reduced by the flames. However, as the joint 3 is reduced, the increasingly hot tongue 4 swells in the frame 2 and reaches the edges of the window pane 1 to then temporarily ensure more or less the loss of sealing along these edges, due to the elimination of the synthetic material from the joint 3.
The fire window is completed with a frame 5 embedded in an opening of the masonry 6 and secured
<EMI ID = 5.1>
takes a metal profile consisting for example of a sheet of steel folded several times longitudinally.
The profile of the frame 5 is applied against the masonry 6 and moreover covers the latter. The profile in question is formed by two outer wings 7 and 8 each provided with a flange 9, by two cores 10 and 11, by two inner wings 12 and 13 and by a bottom 14.
Wings 7, 8, 12 and 13 are parallel to each other
and perpendicular to the webs 10 and 11 and to the bottom 14.
The outer wings 7 and 8 are anchored in the

pan. The inner wings 12 and 13 and the bottom 14 define a longitudinal groove 15 with respect to which the frame 2 is located.
<EMI ID = 8.1>
mounted from. adjustable manner relative to the bottom 14. The rigid element 16 extends over the entire length and over
the entire width of the groove 15. The rigid element 16 is in fact a dish made of thermally insulating material,
<EMI ID = 9.1>
Between the bottom 14 and the rigid element 16 is a soft, flexible and elastic element 17. This element 17 is in fact a strip of a preferably thermally insulating material and in particular a stuffing, for example asbestos foam. The rigid element 16 is mounted on the profile of the dorcant 5 and more precisely on the bottom 14 of the groove 15 by self-tapping adjustment screws 18. The tightening of the rigid element 16 by the screws 18 produces the compression of the flexible and elastic element 17. Thus, after a
<EMI ID = 10.1>
is selectively positioned in the groove 15 and held in its position by the elastic back pressure of the flexible and elastic element 17 then compressed.
The frame 2 is engaged without play between the rigid elements 16, applied against the above-mentioned pan and held by glazed slats 19. Here, each glazed slat 19 is fixed to the shoulder by
self-tapping fixing screws 20.
The fire window is assembled as follows. In the factory, the window 1 is mounted in the frame 2 provided with the tongue 4 and it is sealed by the gasket 3. On site, the frame 5 is mounted in the corresponding opening of the masonry 6
and we seal it to the latter. Then we settle
the position of the rigid elements 16 relative to the bottoms 14 of the grooves 15, as a function of the dimensions of the frame 2 and so as to square them together. The frame 2 is engaged through the opening defined by the shoulders of the frame 5 and it is introduced without play between the rigid elements 16 as far as the flaps of this frame 5. Finally, the glazed slats 19 are mounted on the shoulders.
In the event of a fire inside the building, i.e. on the side of the core 10 relative to the plane of the window 1, the flames, fumes and hot gases
cannot flow between frame 2 on the one hand
and the inner wings 12 and the rigid elements 16 on the other hand, because of the negligible play which exists there and which is due. including the possibility of adjusting.
these rigid elements 16. In addition, the flames attack the joint 3 and consume it, but simultaneously the tongue 4 whose temperature increases, fills more and more the interior of the groove of the frame 2. Therefore, the tongue 4 replaces the seal 3 to temporarily extend the seal between the frame 2 and the window 1. In this way, the flames, the fumes
and the hot gases are retained for a fairly long period of time inside the building without being able to pass through the window, the fire protection of which is thus ensured.
The second illustrated example (Figure 2) differs from the first only in that the glazed slats 21 are clipped between the shoulders of the frame 5 and the rigid elements 16 in the grooves
15 instead of being fixed by clamping screws.
In the third illustrated example (Figure 3) the frame is a wooden frame 22 with a paned frame
23 and a notch 24 in the corner. Each notch 24 is closed on the side opposite the pan 23, by a wooden slat 25 fixed by wood screws 26 so as to delimit the groove 15 in which are also housed the flexible and elastic element 17, the rigid element 16 and box 2 as in the other two examples.
It is important to note that in the event of a fire, the tab made of expanding material can expand almost freely on the side of the frame 5 due to the presence of the compressible element 17, which reinforces the effectiveness of the expanding material.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiments shown and that many modifications can be made in
the form, arrangement and constitution of some of the elements involved in their realization, without departing from the scope of the present invention.
