<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

"Improvements relating to saddlebags" The present invention relates to saddlebags and,
in particular, plastic safety bags. The present invention is particularly applicable in the field of bank and commercial transactions in which it is desirable to lock up and seal monetary values or documents in a bag so that, as soon as the bag has been sealed, it cannot be access its content without it being revealed.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
receipt of monetary values or documents and when
these must be abandoned for a certain period or when they must be transmitted by third parties, an element
of confidence must intervene in the situation unless one can take the necessary measures to preserve monetary values or documents by a system indicating
whether or not the contents of the package were accessed during transit. The element of confidence is then reinforced because,
if a parcel which has been fixed in one place arrives at another place in the same condition as that in which the sender left it, the recipient can be assured that the contents
of the parcel is exactly that expected by the sender, who can trust that, if the bag is delivered intact to the recipient, the latter will receive what the sender wishes to give him.
An object of the present invention is to provide
a device similar to a bag, inexpensive, simple in form and intended to contain monetary values or documents, this device being able to be easily sealed however that, as soon as it was sealed, it cannot be the object of a break-in without revealing that its contents have been violated.
According to the present invention, a bag intended to contain articles is formed from plastic sheets and comprises an opening integral with a tab which can be folded over this opening in order to secure the interior of the bag, an adhesive being applied. at least
to this tab to form a connection with the surface of the bag on which the tab is glued, this connection having a resistance greater than the resistance to rupture of the plastic material of which the bag is made, so that the latter cannot be open ^ as soon as the tab has been
<EMI ID = 2.1>
constituted the bag.
As soon as it has been sealed, a bag having the characteristics set out above cannot be opened easily without tearing off or at least stretching the plastic film of the bag, thus providing the recipient with
proof that the contents have been the subject of an attempted violation Unfortunately, in the case of bags made with thicker plastic films, a sealed bag can be opened without this being revealed by its appearance being given that the strength of the bond (in particular, immediately after it has been made) may, with respect to the plastic, not be sufficient to cause the extension or tearing of this plastic by the opening attempt.
According to a preferred characteristic of the present invention, there is provided a bag intended to enclose articles, this bag being produced from a plastic sheet defining an opening of which is attached a tab which can be folded over this opening in order to close the bag, an adhesive being applied at least to this tab to form a bond with the material of the bag on
 l which the tab is folded down, the material of this bag or of this tab having a zone of weakness around the opening so that, as soon as the tab has been folded over the opening and qu 'it has been linked to the material adjacent to it, the adhesive bond cannot be broken without tearing the bag at least along this weakened area.
This weakening zone is advantageously produced in the form of a line of perforations which can be practiced near the place along which the tab is assembled to the main surface of the bag, either in the material thereof, or in the material of this leg. As a variant, a line of perforations can be made near the adhesive applied to the tab, in the part of the latter which is distant from the fold connecting the tab to the bag.
Other possibilities include reducing the thickness of the plastic sheet
along a similar line or even the assembly of the lug secured to the main surface of the bag by means of a weakening line which, moreover, can serve to define
the line on which the tab is folded.
Preferably an adhesive of an appropriate type
is applied to both the inner surface of the leg and
to the outer surface of the bag which is adjacent to the opening formed therein, so that the two paired surfaces which are brought into contact when the tab is folded down, have an adhesive layer.
More specifically, the bag is formed from a single sheet of plastic, more particularly polythene, this sheet being folded approximately in the middle so that one half is slightly longer than the 'other to form a tab, while the two adjacent edges are joined by a weld bead or linked to each other in another way to form the bag.
Preferably, the adhesive is of the type sold under
<EMI ID = 3.1>
or equivalent adhesive.
When using an adhesive of this type, it is most conveniently applied to the bag and to the tab by gluing, on the area of the opening of the bag and on the underside of the tab, a tape whose face backing is coated with the preferred adhesive, the latter thus ensuring a firm bond with the plastic material so that, when the tape is peeled off from the polythene, a layer of adhesive remains bonded to the sheet of plastic material on both the tab and on the bag.
In order to increase the transport capacity, the bag can be made with bellows.
In order to be able to apply printing or writing to the bag and / or the tab, the plastic material is preferably subjected to a surface bite in order to obtain, at least over part of its surface, a mat surface finish.
It is understood that the invention is in no way limited to the use of a polyethylene sheet or of a polythene sheet, no more than to the use of the specific adhesives mentioned above.
The invention will be described below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the plastic safety bag made in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 is a view of the edge of the bag <EMI ID = 4.1> Figure 3 is a front view of another safety bag according to the invention, and Figure 4 is a front view of another safety bag according to the invention.
As shown in the drawings, a bag is formed from a single length of a sheet of plastic material such as a sheet of polyethylene which is folded
at 10 and which is welded by a cord along the two abutment edges 12 and 14 in order to form an envelope or a bag. When folding this sheet, the position of the fold 10 is off-center so that, when the two parts are folded together and welded, the edge 16 of a fold is spaced
from the edge 18 of the other fold to the open end of the bag.
In this way, a tab is designated generally designated by the reference numeral 20 and, according to the invention, a first length of a tape 22 whose dorsal face is coated with an adhesive, is applied to the face of the tab which will come into contact with the outer surface of
the front part 24, while a second length of a similar tape coated with adhesive 26 is applied to the surface of the front part 24 which is close to and parallel to the
edge 16 thereof.
The adhesive applied to the dorsal side of the ribbon forms a poor connection with the material of the latter, but it is chosen so as to ensure a very resistant connection with the plastic material of the tab 20 and of the front part.
24. In this way, as soon as the tape has been applied to the plastic sheet forming the tab 20 and the front part
24, it is perfectly possible to peel off the material from the ribbon y
<EMI ID = 5.1>
can fold the tab 20 and stick it on the front part 24.
By choosing an adhesive according to the invention of
so that the strength of the bond between the adhesive and
the plastic is greater than the breaking strength
of it, the tab 20 cannot be opened without tearing off,
cut or otherwise damage the material of which the bag is made.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3,
a weakening zone is formed in the adjacent structure
at the link, so that it becomes even more difficult to open the bag without it being revealed.
For this purpose, parallel to the edge 16 of the front part 24 (and between the tape 26 and most of the
front part of the bag), a line of relatively small perforations 30 is practically extending
across the front. The adhesive deposited on the
ribbons 22 and 26 is chosen so that the tab 20 is
firmly linked to the front part 24 but, even if, for one
or the other reason, the bond does not have a sufficiently high resistance, it will always prove impossible to detach
the lug 20 of the front part 24 (as soon as it has been sealed
on it) without tearing the bag along this line
perforations 30.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4,
a line of perforations 32 is made in the material of
the tab between the layer of adhesive tape 22 and the opening
formed by the edge 16. As in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3, any attempt to raise the tab in order to break the connection when the tab has been glued to the front part 2 [cent], will cause a tear in the along the line of perforations 32.
