La présente invention a pour objet d'offrir une machine qui ne présente pas les inconvénients des moteurs classiques et qui soit d'une construction très simple et robuste;
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>

"Machine such as motor, compressor, pump".
The present invention relates to
a machine such as an engine, compressor, pump, comprising at least one expansion and compression chamber and dice
intake and exhaust control elements.
<EMI ID = 1.1> the intake and exhaust control is provided by. or valves and one or more camshafts provided to control the valves, the valves are fragile elements and their cooling poses serious problems. In addition, the valves themselves and their control mechanisms cause very annoying noises, the damping of which is particularly difficult.
The object of the present invention is to provide a machine which does not have the drawbacks of conventional motors and which is of a very simple and robust construction;
To this end, the machine according to the invention is characterized in that the intake and exhaust control elements comprise at least one rotary shaft which has intake channels and exhaust channels which extend transversely. relative to the axis of the rotary shaft through the latter, the inlet channels and the exhaust channels, possibly successively, during the rotation of the rotary shaft, being placed in communication, d 'on the one hand, with said expansion and compression chamber and, on the other hand, with intake ducts and exhaust ducts, respectively, provided in said machine.
The operation of the rotating shaft is completely silent. Its cooling does not pose any problem since its outer surface can remain practically in permanent contact with surfaces of the machine cooled directly by water. In addition, the machine according to the invention is of an extremely simple and inexpensive construction.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the machine according to the invention, the latter comprises a cylinder head which has a bore adapted to the external diameter of the rotary shaft, and the rotary shaft is rotatably mounted in this bore, this: bore being in communi- <EMI ID = 2.1>
and compression, the intake and exhaust channels being successively in communication with this opening, during the rotation of the rotary shaft.
Another advantageous embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the intake and exhaust channels are inclined in opposite directions and obliquely with respect to the axis of the rotary shaft and in that the channels intake and exhaust are arranged so as to form between them, in radial section, an angle close to 90 [deg.].
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description, given below without limitation, of an exemplary embodiment of the invention, with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic view in section and in elevation of the exemplary embodiment of the machine according to the invention. Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the cylinder head of the machine.
In both figures, identical reference numerals designate identical or similar elements.
The machine which will be described by way of example is a combustion engine of the four-stroke type with four in-line cylinders. It comprises a crankshaft 1 mounted in a housing 2, four cylinders 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, constituting compression and expansion chambers and a piston 4 in each cylinder. Each cylinder is surrounded by a water cooling chamber 5. The upper part of each cylinder forms a combustion chamber, this chamber being delimited in its upper part by a cylinder head 6 arranged above the four cylinders.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
extends from one longitudinal end of the cylinder head to the other. This bore 7 is in permanent communication with each of the combustion chambers, through openings or channels arranged radially with respect to the axis of the bore 7.
In the bore 7 is rotatably mounted, a rotary shaft 9 whose external diameter corresponds substantially to the diameter of the bore 7. The rotary shaft 9 has, for each cylinder 3, an inlet channel 10 for fuel gas and an exhaust channel 11 for the burnt gases. Canals
10 and 11 are inclined with respect to the axis of the shaft 9, so that their inlet and outlet openings are longitudinally offset by a distance "d". The distance "d" is chosen to ensure a good seal between the channels
10 and 11 and the cylinder head 6; it is greater than the longitudinal dimension of each of the inlet openings and the outlet openings of the channels 10 and 11.
<EMI ID = 4.1>
compared to the other, if one considers them in radial section. As emerges in particular from FIG. 2, this inclination is 90 [deg.].
The cylinder head 6 is provided in its upper part with intake ducts 12 and exhaust ducts.
<EMI ID = 5.1>
cés such that during the rotation of the shaft 9, the combustion chambers are successively first placed in communication with the intake ducts 12, through the openings 8 and the channels 10, then with the ducts d 'exhaust 13, through the openings 8 and the channels 11.
Each combustion chamber is equipped with an ignition plug 14 connected to an ignition installation, not shown.

begins its expulsion phase, cylinder 3c begins its compression phase and cylinder 3d begins its expansion phase. Channels 10 and 11 are arranged correspondingly; each pair of channels 10, 11 is rotated, in the direction of rotation.
<EMI ID = 9.1>
compared to the pair of channels 10, 11 of the neighboring cylinder. The
value of this angle depends of course on the type of engine and the number of cylinders.
The diameter of the shaft 9 is slightly less than the diameter of the bore 7, so as to ensure both good sealing, good cooling and as low a friction as possible.
Shaft 9 is driven by crankshaft 1, via pinions 15 and 16 and a chain 17.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it without
depart from the scope of this patent.
Thus the machine can have any number of cylinders; it can be two-person or
four-stroke, piston type or rotary type. It can operate as an engine either by means of a gaseous fuel or by means of a pressure agent. It is also possible to envisage using the machine as a compressor or
as a pump.
