la Fig. 1 représente une chaise rembourrée;
A l'élément portant 10
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>
Lorsque la personne assise s'in-

<EMI ID=13.1>
<EMI ID=14.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>

Seat with backrest.
The invention relates to a seat with a backrest, the bottom of which can be
be tilted on a horizontal axis mounted parallel to the backrest
in the lower support or foot and whose backrest is not connected
at the bottom only by an articulation so that the bottom and the backrest,
when loaded, can be placed independently any of
the other in different positions relative to the foot, a spring device attacking the backrest directly or through an arm or an appendage.
Such pieces of furniture are for example known by the request <EMI ID = 1.1>
anatomically, in all sitting positions, that is to say in the position in which one writes, the top
of the body tilted forward, in the upright position and in the listener position, that is to say the position tilted backwards, without the level of the backrest
should be changed. In the case of existing chairs, when moving from one position to another, the backrest slides along the back
thus disturbing the garment, which we aim to avoid here.
The present invention relates to a piece of furniture of the kind
quoted in the preamble which is characterized in that the articulation provided between the back and the backrest is fixed at the front of the posterior end of the back and is located in the middle third, of the length of the latter and / or on a straight line or near a straight line bisecting the arc of a circle described by a straight line passing through the two hip joints of the person normally seated on the back of the seat, when moving simulta-
born but independent from each other, from the content and the file. The articulated lipison can furthermore be located near the horizontal axis. At the rear part of the bottom, there is advantageously provided an elastic support which substantially exceeds the upper face thereof and which serves to support the part of the body formed by the upper edge of the pelvis and the lower part of the spine. The backrest may also have a narrow support which
supports only that part of the body and that can be adjusted
compared to it. The supporting element of the seat may be provided on either side with projections or appendages directed towards
the top whose free ends are connected by an element <EMI ID = 2.1>
with the backrest padding, form a support bead facing forward. According to another embodiment, the part of the backrest which must be in contact with the user's back and whose level can be adjusted may include a bulge directed towards the front, the position of which can be adjusted with respect to the part of the body comprising the upper edge of the pelvis and the spine.
The elements of the backrest can advantageously be adapted, as regards the length and the angular position which they occupy with respect to one another, to the position, chosen with respect to the bottom of the seat, of the planned articulation. between this base and the backrest, so that there is an approximately constant distance for the part of the support crown which is furthest forward when the backrest is vertical, regardless of the relative positions occupied by the backrest and the backrest when these relative positions are modified with respect to the straight line passing through the hip joints of the seated person. The bottom of the seat may also have at least a slight hollow at the rear and, behind, be at a level lower than that of the front of the seat.
A few embodiments of furniture in accordance with the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 represents an upholstered chair;
Fig. 2 represents another form of upholstered chair, and
Fig. 3 shows a simple chair that can pivot on its lower support.
The chair shown in FIG. 1 comprises a lower support or foot 12, made of a tube and comprising transverse bars 13. At the upper end of the support 12 is fixed a horizontal axis 11, on which the bottom of the seat is mounted so as to be able to be tilted. The seat bottom comprises a supporting element 10 as well as a padding 10 '. To the bearing element 10

culation 17 to the bearing element 10. A spring 16 connects the pcrtpnt element 10 to the backrest 18. The rear end of the bearing element 10 is engaged by one of the ends of a telescopic spring device with several sections or degrees 15, which, by the other end, rests on a transverse bar of the lower support. As indicated by the dotted line, the bearing element 10 has on each side an appendage facing upwards 10 ". The free ends of these appendages are connected by an elastic element il +, for example a wave spring or
an elastic rubber traction band, and the padding 10 'of the bottom of the seat extends over the elastic element, which has for role of adequately supporting the upper part of the edge of the pelvis of the seated person. The elasticity of the element 14 is chosen so that this element is given, when the seated person reclines backwards, to such an extent that it supports the body but does not constitute a hindering part of the backrest.
The position of the articulation 17 relative to the bearing element 10 and to its bearing on the axis 11 is chosen so that this articulation is on a straight line or close to a bisected straight line.
<EMI ID = 4.1>
two hip joints of the person seated normally during movements, simultaneous but independent of each other, of the back and of the backrest.
If the seated person, by leaning backwards while keeping the bottom of the seat and the lower support in the same position with respect to each other, moves the backrest backwards through its entire pivoting arc , the line passing through the hip joints of this person describes an arc of a circle. If, on the other hand, this person moves the bottom of the seat and the backrest, keeping them in the position they occupy with respect to each other, by tilting backwards over the entire pivoting arc , the aforementioned line describes
again an arc of a circle, but this arc of a circle does not
neither the same center nor the same radius as the first. If, on the other hand, by tilting backwards, the seated person moves
towards the rear the bottom of the seat and the backrest simultaneously but
<EMI ID = 5.1>
of the seat and the backrest relative to each other from the previous momentary initial position, the straight line cited above describes an arc of a circle which lies between the other two arcs of a circle and thus represents an acceptable mean value. The last-mentioned arc of a circle defines the position of the straight line on which or near which the articulation connecting the bottom of the seat to the backrest is advantageously placed.
You can choose the attack points of the devices to
<EMI ID = 6.1>
In either of them, there is an increasing lever arm as the spring force increases.
To the bearing element 10 and to the backrest 18 are articulated stop members in the form of rods, respectively designated by 25 and 26, which, each pierced with a buttonhole, are
<EMI ID = 7.1>
which can be operated by means of a lever 31 and which can be blocked or released by means of this device. The assembly and operation of such a clamping device are explicitly described in the patent application cited above. Provided that the dimensions of the buttonholes have been judiciously chosen, the stop members can at the same time play the role of limiting members. displacements of the seat bottom and backrest.
As shown in Fig. 1, the paddings 10 'and 18' together form a support cushion directed towards the front, of
height such that it supports the part of the body formed
the upper edge of the pelvis and the bottom of the spine, if the person in the seat is in an upright position. The padding also has shapes that harmonize
<EMI ID = 8.1>
dirty as closed as possible and that, on the other hand, the padding does not interfere with the function
from the headquarters.
It is also possible to provide, as a spring 16,

that non-linear, being able to attack by means of a lever articulated with the file. This lever is advantageously articulated to the backrest at an angle such that - as has already been said
higher - the active lever arm increases with increasing spring force.
Instead of adopting the embodiment illustrated
Fig. 1, the back support padding can also be made in a single piece, as shown for example in FIG. 2. In this case, the ends of the side appendages 10 "of the bearing element 10 are located a little more towards the rear than in the
the first case, and it is therefore the same for the elastic element
<EMI ID = 10.1>
which is somewhat reinforced at the rear face, is fixed by the upper part to the backrest 18 and by the lower part, by means of links 38, which are simply drawn in dotted lines, to the bearing element 10 of the bottom of the seat; this back padding covers the elastic element 14. When the seated person

and thus forms the desired cushion to support that person's back.
Fig. 3 shows a chair whose lower support or foot 32 comprises an upright contained in a socket 33 at the upper part of which is mounted the axis 11, on which the pivoting bearing element 10 is located, which here supports a plane -

strongly bent backwards in its lower part and thus forms a bulge directed forward. By its lower oblique part, the board supports the part of the body formed by the upper edge of the pelvis and the lower spine when the seated person is tilted forward. As can be seen in the drawing, the bearing element 10 is not
<EMI ID = 14.1>
is perfectly free to pivot, two cables 35 serving as limiting members for the pivoting movements. A cross member 21 of the backrest 18 is attacked, via a sleeve 36 ', by a compressed gas spring 36, which, via a
<EMI ID = 15.1>
seat. On the sleeve 36 ', a lever 31, serving as a lever, is mounted so that it can be placed in contact with the control button of the compressed gas spring. By lowering the lever
31, the control button is put into action and the compressed gas spring is released. When it is blocked, this spring simultaneously plays the role of a stop member, that is to say it remains in its momentary state and thus blocks the other movements of the backrest, which are not not determined by the inclination of the bearing element 10. The points of attack of the spring device can here again be chosen so that, in relation to the line of action of this device, there is an increasing lever arm for increasing spring force.
The chair described above works in the following way: When the seated person tilts backwards, his back follows a kind of rounding movement on the backrest, that is, if the bulge When the backrest is normally seated in an upright position, the backrest support area moves and rises as the back tilts further back. If the bottom of the seat is formed by a board of the common type, the seated person, if at the same time tilting the bottom of the seat forward, will not stay on it and will slide forward. This is why, as shown in the drawing, the bottom plank is hollowed out in its rear half and forms a face which drops to the rear relative to its front level.
This prevents, on the one hand, the seated person from slipping when tilting the bottom of the seat forward by tilting the backrest backwards, and, on the other hand, prevents the rear edge of the seat from lifting this person out of the seat and thus reduce the safety of his position to nothing.
The embodiments of the invention described above and illustrated by the accompanying drawings may be subject to variations. The stated features can also be combined in different ways. It also goes without saying that what has been explained applies to seats other than chairs and, in particular, to armchairs. It is also possible to provide other forms of backrest, provided that the backrest provides support to the user, when he is seated in a position tilted forward, especially in the part of the body formed by the upper edge of the pelvis. and the bottom of the spine, and that it allows the back of this person to perform the aforementioned rounding movement when tilting backwards.
The supports for the elastic element 14 do not necessarily have to be provided on the supporting element of the seat bottom, but can be provided on the body of this bottom itself. Thus, instead of using the seat bottom shown in FIG. 1, it is also possible to use a bottom made of synthetic material, which may also not be supported by a supporting element. In this case, the lateral supports of the elastic element 14 are in one piece with the seat bottom.
