Abstract

Tows of synthetic yarns are advanced through pref. three sets of draw rolls operating at increasing speeds so that the tows are stretch broken in two stages to form rovings which are pref. condensed by passage through conical funnels and combed in a gill box. The sepn. of the first and second sets of draw rolls is greater than one third the sepn. of the second and third sets of draw rolls. Pref. all of the rolls are mounted in self centering bearings and each draw roll set comprises an upper rubber roller and two lower metal rollers. The device operates at high speed and ensures more uniform fibre distribution.
