Abstract

Several multifilament yarns are advanced by pref. feed rolls with a 10% overfeed to a heated roll (e.g. at 121-232 degrees C) against which they are pressed by an apron over a predetermined arc whereby they are allowed to contract to produce a crimp. The heated roll rotates at a faster surface speed faster (pref. by 1.4-4 times) than that of the apron and the apron has a rougher surface whereby the yarns are slowed down as they leave the heated roll. Subsequently the crimp is fixed by heating (e.g. 100 degrees C) and advanced to a cooling zone. The yarns (e.g. polyamide, polyester, polyolefine, polyurethane, polycaprolactane, cellulose acetate) are used to produce knitted fabrics which have improved touch characteristics and elasticity.
