Abstract

Hexavalent chromium based coatings for metallic substrate. F7-. Comprises the residue of a liquid composition containing hexavalent chromium finely mixed with a powdered metal selected from Zn, Mn, Al, Mg and mixtures and alloys of these. The metal is less noble (E.M.F.) than the substrate. Residue is obtained by applying composition to substrate and heating. Specifically, the liquid composition consists of a substance supplying hexavalent chromium, at 80% by wt. chromic acid, in 0-98 parts by wt. Coating has improved durability.
