Abstract

Petroleum coke with a lower sulphur content is prepared by adding a small quantity of an alkali metal carbonate, e.g. 0.3-5% wt. based on coke, to the coking stream mixture and then treating the coke at an elevated temp., pref. >=1,000 degrees F, with hydrogen.
