Abstract

Mica paper is made by hydrolysing an organo-silicic compound to obtain an aqueous solution: this is added to a mixture of mica flakes with water. The pulp mixture is deposited on an appropriate support, dried, calendered and passed through an oven at 100-150 degrees C: the temperature causes etherification of the silicic compound with itself and with -OH groups of the mica. The organo-silicic compounds contain preferably, a reactive function which is not attacked by hydrolysis and which may function as catalyst for any resin used for impregnating the paper.
